Is Cozens playing wing and not C for the Sabres? Same question about Mittlestadt...
Cozens 2C and playing well, Mitts 3C and playing well. We're losing games and will continue to lose games with Samuelsson and Jokiharju injured. Horvat won't make much of a difference even if he's great.

Picks can't be conditional on signings, so that 2nd doesn't work.

Honest question I have regarding CBA. If Johnson walks as a free agent, Buffalo gets a compensatory 2nd round pick, if he is traded and then walks does the acquiring team actually get the same compensation?
New team gets the compensatory pick. Happened when the Avs traded Bleackley to Arizona. The comp pick was later traded to Detroit in the Datsyuk/Chychrun-trade, iirc.

Horvat is on a hot streak and is playing well but he is a #2 center but this package looks like a Jim Benning shuffle and I like Ryan Johnson quite a bit.
Bo would be ideal 2C between Thompson and Cozens. Moving the Myers contract gets the Canucks out from being pinned to the cap ceiling. Rutherford also wants to move out the older players and inject youth.

Ryan Johnson is a very good looking LHD prospect and if he doesn't sign becomes a 2nd to Vancouver.
Sabres 1st is going to be in that 10-15 range. Top teams will be 25-32 range.
Mittelstadt would replace Bo but definitely a cheaper project.
Fitzgerald is a 6/7 D at best but replaces Myers for this season and helps the lottery odds.

No guarantees Bo doesn't walk from the Sabres as a UFA.

What wrong with either Mittelstadt or Cozens as 2C?

Nothing so far. Horvat is a good player but weird target for us
So knowing very very little about the makeup of the Sabres I'll add that one potentially nice thing about acquiring Horvat to insulate young centers is that he is a faceoff wizard. If you still wanted to keep them as centers going forward, it would be a pretty easy strategy to have Horvat take a faceoff and then switch over to either of their wings. Obviously not the sole reason you would acquire him but just a thought......

Good little piece of knowledge for the back pocket, thank you!

Sabres need a 2C behind Tage. Especially one that is great on faceoffs like Horvat. Honest don't know what is would take to get him but Sabres don't need the Canucks to retain anything.

Horvat
Myers

For

Mittelstadt / Oloffson
Ryan Johnson / Portillo rights
Fitzgerald
2023 - 1st (Top 10 protected)
2024 - 2nd (Bo resigns)
LOL... one year of a guy and a cap dump and the sabres give rights to two top players in college, two decent players with team control. AND A FIRST. Then a second if he signs. What a deal? If Horvat signed for a decent cap hit, I can see Mittselstadt, Oloffson and maybe rights to Portillo and the Vegas second we own.

NO joke.

Savoie + 2023 1st (Top 5 protected).
LOL

No conditional picks based on signing per cba rules. So he would have to sign immediately before the trade goes through.

Only rfas who are unsigned can be moved for conditional draft picks.

when has anyone traded a recent top 10 drafted player not yet 20 and a 1st for a rental?
Who says he has to be a rental?

He’s also a 30G 2C making $5.5M.

It’s fine if Buffalo does not want to pay the price.

But someone will.

No they won't. No non playoff team is going to give thier first and a blue chip prospect. You'll get a late first, a later round pick, and a ok prospect from a playoff team.

nobody will….thst boat has sailed with him entering his final year.

the best return would be a 1st likely 22-32 range of the draft and a B prospect.

this draft, many teams aren’t moving their 1st round pick…especially those that have given up picks in prior or last drafts.

more likely return will be something like

2nd+3rd+ B prospect. 2nd becomes a 1st if team makes the conference finals)
