Watching marathon of Friday the 13th films on AMC
I am glad they skipped New Blood today. I always hated the Carrie angle in that one
Jason Takes Manhattan is meh but its still better then New Blood
I loved seeing "THE FINAL CHAPTER" preceded "A NEW BEGINNING." So much for that FINAL thing .
I re-watched Halloween remake last night. I can accept it. It's just a completely different movie, built on gore and shock more than suspense. It's fine as a sort of action/horror film in the vein of Friday the 13th or Aliens, but obviously falls flat in the realm of suspense like the original or something like Alien.
I know it's not necessarily a horror movie, but I watched Eyes Wide Shut last night for the first time, and it's pretty scary. The ritual scene was beyond bizarre.
As far as I am concerned part V didn't happen ,,, It is the Halloween 3 of Friday franchise
Its always amusing in Jason Takes Manhattan that the all those kids on boat are never seen again ,, Literally a class of like 30+ kids died when you think about it Now of course reading Crystal Lake Memories I understand the budget restraints the director faced and how different his original plans for film were
As for Zombie remake ,, It was just so meh and I was annoyed with his wife/foul language thru entire movie. + He it felt to much like he was trying to recreate Carpenter scenes at various points in film. If your going to remake a movie try making it your own

V as part of the series is bad, but on its own it's decent IMO. It has it all: novelty kills, jumps, and boobs. What more can you ask for in a slasher flick?
always loved the music in that scene. so creepy. its chanting priests played backwards.

I've watched that movie a lot. I cannot for the life of me figure out what the overall point or goal of the movie is.
I honestly think I got it... at least I read something that made sense?

Friday the 13th should have stopped at 4. It was one of those things where you were like: "1st one was great. Second was a great follow up. 3rd one was good, but dropped down a bit. 4th one, alright he's just starting to kill everyone, let's end it.".
The film was trash and seemed to be regarded as most unpleasant in series with regard to production
Danny Steinmann was a disaster as director/writter

Basically the two parties in the movie are the same party. The first party has all the pleasantries and manners, things that we as humans feel inclined to do. However, at the party, we see various attempted infidelity (Tom Cruise with the two women, Ziegler with the red head, the Hungarian man hitting on Nicole Kidman.) The party's elegance and decor, or essentially the ritual of it all (a big theme,) are basically a front for lust and carnal advances.
The second party is the bare bones version of the first party. It is the most basic of motivations. There is another ritual performed. Names and faces (decor) don't matter.
That's a pretty horrible elaboration of something I read online.
This is a great article

Going to give this a read. That summary reads like a great possibility, but I want to know how Nick factors in.
In terms of what?
Ah, in general. I could never figure out what his role really was.
I think that article nails a lot of things. One other connection that it misses in part 1: by associating the upper class with Ishtar and Babylon, Kubrick alludes to NYC and by extension, the US, as being the Babylon from Revelation.
After reading about all the hidden stuff in The Shining I had been treating Eyes Wide Shut the same way; that the movie had a greater point buried that just needed to be pried out; watching the movie as a simple drama, it's disappointing, but when you start looking at it critically there seemed to be something there. I just couldn't quite get it worked out though, but I think that article nailed it. Oh well. Time to move on to 2001 and see if I can get that worked out.
Jason Lives was a very good film ,, Infact may be my favorite along with Final Chapter
