I can live with that I guess. He's RFA at the end so there's a decent chance they qualify and resign him.

if that's the condition - I truly don't get why we extended him, right? if it was a guaranteed pick, it makes sense to give him a contract (we got something). but we basically have the free contract now, which we would have had if we didn't give him a QA.

See? This is why we qualified Holland back in June. To get this type of amazing return is better than nothing :sarcasm:

Oh well, I guess a chance at a 6th is better than guaranteed nothing. Had he played better he maybe could have gotten slightly more but he didn't. I live by my opinion back then that he should have been qualified.

A chance at something is better than nothing. I mean what did we really lose in the process? A contract spot for a couple months that is now opened up again, 400k? Leivo sitting on IR instead of on the roster still as a healthy scratch?

I mean when we qualified him I thought maybe he had the chance to get something more, but we didn't really lose anything in the process to gain a maybe pick.

Yeah. Signed him to be our #4C, and he failed to be useful enough to not be replaced by a PK specialist on waivers. That's on him.

just curious more that Lou didn't push for a guaranteed pick.

Good for him, hope he gets a chance in AZ.

I tried finding his tweet from game 7 vs. the Bruins when it was 4-1. He must have deleted it.

I don't think Babcock ever liked him, he had an uphill battle and was too lazy to care. He is absolutely better than Smith but he lacked that drive. It's pretty crazy to think he was taken 15th OA, I never followed him at any point but he must have had some crazy natural skill at a young age to go that high with his work ethic.

Peter Holland had no place on the Toronto Maple Leafs after showing very little in his opportunities. I'd imagine he will be used as a filler player on Arizona while they develop their young players, and then he'll move on to Europe.

It's kinda funny imagining 74 year old LouLam negotiating a deal with 27 year old Chayka

Good luck to Holland

More cap space and therefore less rookie bonus overage carrying over to next season. That's more valuable than the late draft pick.

Don't forget to thank Carlyle for playing him under 10 minutes a night when the condition was based on games played!

Hey now, Orr needed linemates because we traded Colborne for a 4th to give Orr his roster spot instead

I was hoping he would develop his game, but he just doesn't have the drive. He's had enough opportunities. I think Leafs just wanted something to let him go, but didn't really care. I was looking at a 5th round, but in reality his next step with the Leafs would have been waivers. Conditional 6th is better than him being claimed, so I'm good. Makes room for someone that wants it more.

Meh. Its still potentially better than him being waived. At least it looks like he'll have a legit chance to earn back a roster spot. Maybe he'll go full on Joe Colborne in Arizona?

A few things to take away from this:

1 What a disaster of a return this is considering what Nonis paid for him. And even more of a reason to hate Carlyle for routinely only giving him 5-8min a night of icetime turning the conditional pick from a 3rd to a 2nd .

2) with Babcock seemingly having no interest in him at all seems like there may be a mild disconnect between him and management. Especially when you consider management also later went out of there way to grab Griffith - yet another player Babcock had no interest in. I don't think it's anything to worry about but it's certainly noticeable

Holland wasn't good enough to crack last years 30th overall team and so now Lou was able to trade him the to current 30th overall team this season and only 1 of 2 teams below the Leafs in the standings.
