With a terrible shot and a JUICY PERFECT rebound.
Sammy has been serving up rebounds like mad ALL series.

Vasi was back last night and Sammy choked - AS HE HAS most of the series.

I think Sammy will not steal a game. I think Woll can steal 1 of 2 games. To drag this flawed group into round 2 we need a goalie steal.

So far this playoffs, Woll is playing better than Sammy.

But Keefe is riding and dying Holl and Sammy.

"Good luck"
This guys has saved NJ's season.

Can we just appreciate how fckd up it was to see a professional referee shrug when Marron hit gio. They just don't want to upset cooper

Holl has been on the ice for 14 goals against and 2 for. WTFU Keefe, enough is enough of this insanity already. Holl’s hockey IQ is non existent.

The Jets played terribly with a Corsi For percentage of 38% through 2 periods.
Leafs has the same result. The Jets coach ripped into the team. Keefe defended his Holl strategy despite it's catastrophically poor results.

Keefe is DUMB as rocks if Holl starts game 6.

Will he ?

Anyone got a coin ?

Sure but he also stepped up to make a hit, totally missed Hagel to the point he was able to continue momentum with the puck/make a pass and Holl also lost his stick in the process. Even if he doesn't lose his stick on the play, he most likely would have been able to get back in front of the goalie and do a better job of covering Hagel on the rebound. It left two forwards having to play D coverage and Kerfoot and Acciari seemed very confused who to cover.

Just seems like Holl has been at the center of alot of these gamechanging goals against the past few years in the playoffs.
Hes been awful, he looks clearly overtaken by the moment and pressure - both what TB is throwing at him and the situation itself - but theyre not what id consider colossal in the no man back or insurmountable way. Hes simply in over his head and drowning in the quick sand

Yes because if Seattle defeats Colorado, we will be the only team since 04-05 lockout to not have a single series win. We will be the biggest joke around.

Ah good times. Just keep twisting the knife

What should have been the most glorious time of this franchise, has turned into one of it's worse
Can't even say we didn't have chances. Columbus, Montreal and even Tampa last year, game 6 and 7

It's very difficult not to be negative

Keefe doesnt like to change anything ever.

Knies would be watching this series if it was up to Keefe.

Yeah I have zero confidence in samsonov. This guy looked shook from game 1 puck drop and has really not looked any better 5 games in now. I thought in game 1 after the 3-0 period start you should pull him and see what woll can do. But of course Keefe is so smart and waited until the 3rd to do that instead.

Devils season might get saved by a rookie goalie with 20 games played. They saw how awful their number 1 goalie in the regular season was the first two games and weren't afraid to make the switch (easier when you're down 2-0 but if the leafs were in that situation I'm sure Keefe would still go with samsonov). Grow some balls man. Dude coaches not to lose instead of to win.

I can’t even wrap my brain around it. So many chance to close a team out, and they couldn’t even fluke out 1 win? Not 1?

We did get a PP out of that and did nothing with it. In fact Tampa had the better chance to score on that PP

Refs called a pretty good game last night

Credit to TB. These f***ing guys will just not go away. They are making this series incredibly difficult.

I don't want to make this loss out to be more than what it truly is. I need to remind myself that we still have 2 shots to close out this series. It is just hard to fully trust this team despite how different it feels. Not to mention, it's equally hard if not harder to count TB out. I think the only thing we can know for certain heading into game 6 and potentially game 7 is that Tampa is going to bring the house. They will not give up, and they certainly will not have a bad game. It's going to take a full 60+ minute effort to get this done, and we've only achieved that 1 time thus far.

I am just praying to god that having a guy like ROR in that room, pushing a unfazed can-do narrative is enough to get this team over the hump. We need complete buy in, top to bottom.

Eichel has more playoff success than Matthews

What bothers me with the leafs is that their game is always is on "hope"

Hoping that one of our stars is going to show up tonight, hoping Samsonov will make some great saves and that hoping Tampa is going to drop the ball

While other teams like Boston, Vegas, Carolina, their game is on expectations. They don't hope, they expect their team to show up, big guns to show up, they expect their goalies to make saves

There never seems to be an intention with our game. No intent to drive the play. We are always so passive and reactive to what Tampa is doing. Never other way around

Maybe I am 'expecting' too much
Yikes, now that is sad.

Outplayed in 4 of 5. Destroyed Tampa in only game Hedman missed.

We need some luck or history will repeat because Tampa is not rolling over.
I don't know about you guys...but it looks like we are an old veteran team with no legs compared to TB. They seem to be playing 6 on 5 most of the time. How is it that their forecheck doesn't have a weakness we can expose? It's been 5 games....Keefe still has not figured out how to deal with it? He sounds like he has no confidence when compared to Cooper. That cannot be good for our guys looking for a steadying force. I do know that if we had Cooper or someone with his level of experience...this series would have been won in 5 by the Leafs.

The trio is oh and 10 in closeout games. Perhaps there is no gear to be found.
That was their highest gear. That's why this keeps happening. They still may finally get this elusive 4th win if the goaltending doesn't mess the bed, the coach doesn't keep scratching his better players and they get one of those un-defendable deflection goals (or two) like earlier in the series.

The problem now is that if you put him in he's cold and hasn't adjusted to the whims of the series. Maybe it wouldn't be an issue but...
But that means leaving Holl in. No thanks!!! There’s no way Lily could do any worse! In fact, he would definitely be better!

Leafs are 0-11 in series clenching games since their last series win. Matthews and Marner werent here in 2013 where the leafs had one chance in game 7. So they're 0-10 themselves.
Ahhh. They have a bonus opportunity on Saturday to get to there.

didn't read the whole thing but having your 4th line and bottom pair out at the same time at that point in the game, in a clinching game, is a mistake and they paid for it.

Bring Bunting back now
Bunting/Mathews/Marner
Jarnkrok/JT/Nylander
Knies/O'Reilly/Acciari
Laff/Kamp/Kerfoot

The ref standing 3 feet away did not call it. Would not call it. But sure. Great job, not calling it boarding, missing 2 blatant trips on marner and o'reilly. But yeah great job calling ithe game even.

Well in game 1, one minute into the game Holl had Perry 100% perfectly lined up, lunged at the puck and got walked right around.

He had such perfect position on this sequence that there's almost no chance Perry should be able to pull the puck to the inside of Holl and actually continue momentum to the front of the net.

Screenshot (745).png

All he needed to do was make any sort of clean contact on Perry and Perry isn't getting by him with such limited room.

That's not a very good way to start a playoff series and we never recovered in that game.

Leafs defense xG differential/60 at 5v5

1. Schenn - 1.3
2. Brodie - 0.67
3. Rielly - 0.54
4. McCabe - (0.51)
5. Gio - (1.46)
6. Holl - (1.64)

for the forwards, aside from Matthews, Nylander, Marner, Knies, Jancrok and Bunting, all of them are negative with the worse offenders being the fourth line and Kerfoot:

ZAR- (1.12)
Kerfoot- (1.24)
Lafferty- (1.33)
Kampf- (1.5)

The 4th line and bottom pair are killing us in both actual and expected goals.

All he needed to do was make any sort of clean contact on Perry and Perry isn't getting by him with such limited room.

That's not a very good way to start a playoff series and we never recovered in that game.
And last night was basically the same play on a different area of the ice, which always dramatically impacted the momentum of the game

Am I crazy or did they miss a high stick there that hit Knies on the face?
There was a couple missed calls, but we had our fair share of chances and failed to capitalize.

Matthews was tripped, should have been a 5 on 3.

Maroon should have gotten 5 and the game for that boarding on Gio. He's done that twice now.

Knies was high sticked near the end.

Also we could've have gotten 5 for the hit on Kucherov into the boards.

Put Bunting and Lily in next game, sit Lafferty and Holl.
