I heard there was a security problem at Scotiabank Arena after the game, nobody in the Leaf's organization could close the door...

Amazing. Everything she said is 100% spot on. She's explaining all the facts about this series that most Leaf fans have ignored.

Watch the whole thing, she knows what she's talking about.

This is Tampa's series. They've controlled almost all of it. Leafs just aren't good enough again.
Surely most Leafs fans are fully aware of this. But hope dies last.

I mean, Colorado just won last year with Jack Johnson
The diff is that Jack Johnson knows his limitations while Holl for some strange reasons at times think he is a hybrid of Orr, Coffey, Stevens and Leetch. If Holl just understand that he is a very limited player and that all he needed to do is keep thing simple instead of trying to do stuff that he just shouldn’t do, he will be fine. The first goal where he missed an open ice hit completely is an example of him thinking he is Scott Stevens and could end Hagel like how Stevens did with Kariya and Lindros. The second goal where he turned inside out by a 4th liner who just came back from injury is another example of Holl thinking he is Leetch where he can outskate and out smart the opposing player, Ofcourse Sammy didn’t help in this instance too. Or the times where he tried to carry the puck through the Neutral zone like Orr or Coffey and ended up getting trap and turned the puck over.

The difference is that Bednar put him in a position to succeed, and it was only out of necessity because of the injury they had to Girard. JJ never played top competition, played less than 10 minutes a game on average and he stuck to a simple role.

Better team in 4 of 5 games won and I am kind of sure they also will win the next two games. It's pretty sad to watch the Leafs get outplayed with this lineup. Not sure how it is even possible. Sigh.
Nice and simply put.

Marner, Matthews, Nylander. 7 years or whatever it is now, and no results.

Sadly, something is going to have to give there. Can't keep rolling with this trio.

Going to be a tough one to try and figure out in the off-season what happens there. But something's gotta happen. Time's up.

That Holl-Gio pairing is bloody diabolical. I know it worked during the regular season, but it's time to cut losses and change it up. It's not all their fault (some bad goaltending, some bad luck) but the stats just say -- this ain't working. Personally, I'd bring in Lilly to replace Holl. I've noticed Holls ice time diminishing by the game which suggests that perhaps Keefe will just sit him out the next game.

For the first time in the series, Knies has done something a bit dumb. He should never have grabbed his face, hoping to get a call on a stick that basically touched his waist. He should, have by all rights, be given an unsportsmanlike penalty for that. Other than that though, he's doing more than anyone could really expect of a rookie in his first PO series.

Pretty tall order to expect the Leafs to win 4 in a row against Tampa. That first goal against really seemed like a back-breaker. It likely gave Tampa Bay a lot of confidence. Overall though, I don't think we were really too, too bad. We had a few good looks but our shooting let us down a bit. Vasi was definitely pretty good, too.

Bring on Saturday. This team, especially Sammy, have been pretty good after a loss so let's just hope we can continue that trend.

They all look so deflated in these interviews. Wow I wish I hadn't of watched this. But these post-game interviews say it all. They're cooked

It's the moneypuck meter.

You can view it here:

Fans are quick to forget all the chances we had. Marner had a freaking breakaway, Rielly hit the post. Tavares got in 1 on 1 with Vasi, people forget all the missed chances at the end of the game - the meter doesn't.
And who comprises these stats exactly? Former high level coaches/players or some kid watching the game eating Cheetos in his mother's basement?

If you think Holl is coming out of this lineup you’re fooling yourself.

Said it years ago he’s Babcock’s Hyman, but a homeless man’s version. Absolutely immune to any remedial action.

Keefe stagnates every young players development in this org. The most recent 1st rd pick in this series’ lineup is from 7 years ago - Matthews. Both Liljegren and Timmins have been mismanaged in the second half, like almost every other prospect he handles.

Didn’t expect to see this group beat Tampa 4 straight after game 1, so not overly worried about tonight. Next game is game 7 though let’s be honest.

This is the #1 fact that most Leaf fans are missing. Tampa has controlled 80% of this series. The Leafs got 2 miracle comebacks, and that's all. They want to keep relying on these comebacks but their luck has run dry. Aiside from those quick comebacks the Leafs have been outplayed decisively. Tampa has been the superior team and they know they're going to win this in 7.

Leafs had their chance tonight to prove it. To go for it. To win it. This was their one chance. So they are supposed to come out flying. As usual, they proved that they don't have that extra gear, that they really don't have that desire. Because if they did they would have come out hard and shown that they are here to win. But as usual they didn't show any of that, all they did was wilt. Again. They don't have 2 more chances. Tonight was their one chance to prove it. And they didn't. Tonight was the series.

Saturday Tampa will pound them.

Then Monday the Lightning will win a tight one.

This is the way it's always gone, and this is the way it'll go again.

By Tuesday they'll be 0-13 in clinching games. Impossible. Flip a coin 13 times and it will never ever be heads 13 times. So how are they about to legitimately go 0-13 in clinching games?
The leafs were flying got the lead the crowd was rocking and then Justin holl fks it up

If anyone is curious about the tactical side of the game tonight, Jack Han who used to work for the Marlies, does a newletter where he highlights an interesting playoff game every night. Tonight was us, here it is summarized:

Jack Han sends out a newsletter to his subscribers whenever he sees something noteworthy in any of the playoff games. They break down the tactical side of the game for the laymen which is something that is sorely lacking in the hockey world. Figured I would summarize his latest newsletter here which he just sent out.

- Toronto wants to go North as fast as possible. The fastest method of getting to any point on the ice is obviously a straight line.
- Tampa has adjusted to game 2 beat down by going to an aggressive 2-3 forecheck.
- On dump ins, the two forwards, F1 and F2 aggressively attack the dmen looking for breakouts. The third hangs back for support. Han refers to this third forward as the passive 3 as he is sitting back and reading the play to see where to go next.
- Occasionally the puck rings around the back of the net and to the other side, that's where the passive 3 would step up and attack.
- This type of forecheck is good at attacking teams that like to get out as quickly as possible because the north south passing lanes are covered

Toronto's adjustments and they did this in the third period:

- The 2-3 forecheck is susceptible to East-West teams, Toronto is a North-South team as they like get out of the zone as fast as possible and fastest route out is a straight line. In a 2-3 the neutral zone is wide open so on breakouts as the passive 3 can only cover so much and the D-men are outnumbered by rushing forwards. The forwards vs a 2-3 want to separate wide out and provide East-West passing lanes to each other instead of being stacked on top of one another.
- Toronto prefers to play a 1-1-3 netural zone forecheck. Now you see why Tampa attacks in a 2-3. In a 1-1-3 the forward are arranged directly in front of each other, the two d-men that hang back are arranged in a triangle formation behind the trailing forward. Each player in this type of forecheck only has one passing lane to the player ahead of them. The 2-3 is particularly strong against that as it has 2 forwards attacking 1 passing lane off of a dump in.

Han provides some gifs of how Toronto adjusted in the third but I can't link from my email on my phone so I'll describe it.

Sequence 1 - Matthews forces a Tampa turnover, passes it to Jarmkrok who's on the same side of the ice as he is (near the penalty boxes). The 2 Tampa F's are now behind the puck, Jarmkrok instead of going straight out and potentially being attacked by the passive 3, elects to head towards the middle which draws the passive 3 towards him and opens up space on the ice for Matthews rushes forward. This creates a diagonal passing lane for Jarmkrok to a rushing Matthews who makes an easy entry as both Tampa dmen are on their heels.

Sequence 2 - Nylander retrieves the puck, behind the net chased by the two Tampa forwards (the 2 in the 2-3), passes the puck to Holl who's by the benches, Holl. The passive 3 who's been sitting at the blue line sees this and begins to attack Holl. This leaves the entire left side of the ice wide open so Holl makes a quick outlet to Matthews at the penalty boxes on the opposite side who makes a clean entry into the Tampa zone.

Basically what Han is suggesting here is that the Leafs adjust by playing East-West more when they read that Tampa is in a 2-3 (remember that not all teams attack the same way all game,). In doing this they play a slower game and don't transition as fast but they defend the Tampa forecheck better. If Tampa gets away from the aggressive 2-3 forecheck, Toronto can go back to a 1-1-3 as that is what they're best at. The coaches have to recognize this faster and not wait until period intermissions to change up the breakout strategy though.

Keefe need to adjust faster... or just adjust at all..
3 lines in the 3rd when trailing.
Stack first and second lin as much as possible.
Double play Marner/Matthews.
Show them that they need to win and that u belive they can , with coaching actions.

If you got a lead in third they u can play the 4rth line like a firstline. Not when trailing. Must have held the "Coaching for dummies" book upside down.

Kick rocks.
Truth hurts doesn't it?
This also reminded me of the Raptors Game 5 against GS. They felt behind and tried to mount a come back but felt short and end up winning in 6
3 of those teams you mentioned have won championships in the last 5 years and the other hasn't even won a f***ing playoff round.

Nowhere near the same thing.

Can you fire a coach in the middle of a series ?
What Keefe did wrong was not load up the top 2 lines and play top 6 bottom 6. Top 6 score and bottom 6 don’t get scored against. He played scared and the team followed. And as usual the overpaid players didn’t show up when it mattered. A pathetic display by all. Total lack of heart. That’s what you get when failure is accepted by both players and the organization. This group will never succeed when it matters.

Not a great game from the Leafs; They just had to give up the tying goal immediately? Really?
In the end though Tampa only won because of a couple of terrible goals which never should have gone in, and Vasi finally made some stops.
As others pointed out, winning 4 straight games against TB was never likely at all.

But the Leafs better do it now Saturday, there’s no excuse for them to be outskated or outplayed by TB, none.

Keeping Justin Holl in the line up makes no sense and I don’t see him improving overnight especially with the media really calling him out now cause he doesn’t strike me as the type of player that would get motivated by it and would probably get deflated even more.

It’s not like he’s even an important player on the D like Morgan Rielly where you can’t sit him if he was playing brutal. He needs to sit. He literally having a Jake Gardiner game 7 performance every game for us.
