Post-Game Talk: Holl and Keefe hand Tampa the victory

Part of the reason the 4th line is getting caved is Keefe is only putting them out there for defensive zone draws, and if Kampf loses the draw, they basically just get cycled on until Tampa gets tired because no one on that line can properly break the puck out.

That is one of the few things Engvall actually did very well, he handled basically all the transition related stuff between him and Kampf. ZAR and Lafferty can’t do that. Hell outside of Matthews, Nylander, Marner and O’Rielly I don’t know what forward we do have that can. It’s even worse on D. During the regular season we had Sandin, Lily, and Timmins who could all break the puck out, but (rightfully) we decided to give some of that up in order to get some physicality in McCabe.

Which is why Tampa’s heavy forecheck is working so well right now.

The value proposition of Gio-Holl is that while they aren’t offensive threats, they are stable defensively but this series they’ve been anything but. If Lily is just as bad defensively as Holl, but actually contributes something offensively, we’ll we’re technically getting better lol

Well Willie was doing his thing. TB really limited our guys tonight, they played a very conservative and passive game. I think that’s surprised the boys, as they were probably preparing TB to throw everything at them. TB played the Leafs to make mistakes, the first two goals were on Holl. Both times he got out of position. Sammy could had saved both goals but Holl should not let it happened to begin with.
Honestly if the first goal didn’t happen and Vas didn’t got lucky with Willie shot that actually went off his left pad then bounced to his right pad instead of bounced behind him. The game could had been 2-0 for the Leafs and TB will just fold.
I don’t think TB got life after this game and if both teams played like tonight, Leafs will win.

- Tampa/Boston got the next 3
- Matthews scores to cut it to 3-2

That's my thought as well. Just go 1-1 in the next 2. Or preferably just win the next one on the road. Just a road win at Amalie where you love playing. Bruins are the greatest team of all time. They're playing a Game 6 in Florida. They failed to win at home in Game 5. It's not ideal but that shouldn't impact having to play the next one.

Here goes a rant and a good one hopefully ... Tampa is a great team and all.... but its ridiculously frustrating to watch a team like Tampa as a Leaf fan... and yet Tampa only has about 22 fans. It's honestly a joke.

That’s one way to look at it. But I certainly didn’t expect TB to play this passive style tonight. Really thought they will be gunning hard but instead they played it safe. Think only MM got an odd man rush the whole game with that break away.

I don't think MM was executive at an appropriate playoff pace and his shot selection was off too, though he did hit that post late in the third with the EN. He just needs to make the right play efficiently and not take too much time and just get clobbered and swarmed.

What's really remarkable is how many playoff games they've won while building that record. Like gun to your head, if you were forced to pick a team that will win 3 games in the first round of the NHL playoffs, you're picking the Leafs, shit is automatic, they are prime Tiger Woods at winning 3 games, they are the Tom f***ing Brady of winning 3 games. 4 games? Disappointing, but I don't think anyone expect us to beat Tampa in seven. Played well tonight, doesn't matter when you lose the game, just ask Tampa. The changes Toronto need to make to the lineup are right in front of us, if the coaching staff doesn't want to make them, we deserve to lose. Breaking out and Forechecking are the two areas we need to improve on in this series and hopefully going forward.

Holl has been terrible when not on the PK, and adding Lilly to be able to move the puck outweighs anything good Holl can do, and Bunting is just a better forward then most of the guys playing in the bottom 6 and should have been in the lineup regardless, but I understand not wanting to change the roster.
