Summer hockey is bit more expensive. Usually here, kids take up soccer at summer and hockey at winter. I mean, we are talking about kids here, right? Since makes no sense to compare costs on adults.
My little brother, who is now 10, plays both. Clubs charge pretty close the same amount for each sport/season. Granted, hockey club does bit more work with sales and such to make money. But not a significant difference. The only difference comes from the gear. And even that gets overblown. Full soccer gear is pretty expensive too.
I've actually talked about this with my uncle and stepdad pretty often. Both have kids that play hockey and soccer. I said the same thing, hockey is much more expensive. And they both disagreed. The difference is not that huge.
But again, I'm talking about kids who play soccer in the summer and hockey in the winter.
I honestly don't know what the costs are for kids in Canada, but it simply has to be more expensive given the cost of ice time. As an adult I know for fact that soccer is basically free in comparison.
It's sad but that's what it is. Also a lot of local ODR's now require skate tags to play on it. I think most are only like 10 dollars for the season, but that's what it is. Granted quite a few of these are just covering costs of boards and materials.
