So far less expensive = easier to play? nice logic

Then golf must be the hardest game of them all:sarcasm:?

Nobody means that it is "easier to play" in a skill or tactics or insulting way, it is simply easier to play in that it costs less money, so there are less barriers to entry.

I think there was something lost in translation for you, nothing said was meant to insult soccer in any way, just to make a comment about the financial costs of hockey.

More in terms of entry level costs, mainly equipment and icetime/fieldtime.

Soccer is cheaper in both cases.

True. I thought you were talking about the actual game itself.

I'd guess that if a kid picks up hockey or soccer, the yearly costs are not that much higher in hockey. Somewhat, yes. But the difference lies largely within equipment.

Well, that's not true either. Depending on the club. But yeah, hockey is more expensive. I was just wondering what your point about the "easier to play" was.

The only real difference is the gear. I think the money difference is way overblown. It's not that huge of a difference. For an average family, not a deal breaker.

I don't think you have a good understanding of the costs of operating a hockey rink versus the cost of keeping grass. Last time I registered for summer hockey it cost 800 dollars for once a week. For soccer it was 100 for once a week.

Nothing was wrong in the translation for me you guys just said it was easier, and dident explain why but okey i go with this explanation!

800 dollars for once a week its ridiculous its like 8k and i dident even pay that when i played hockey.

Well, in Toronto:

In order to play in the GTHL, the biggest minor league in the world, it will cost the average player approximately $5,500 per season.

Here is the breakdown:

$3,500 season hockey fee
$220 game fee ($6 per game x 36 games)
$220 spectator fee ($6 per game x 36 games)
$1,000 approximate cost of hotels, gas, meals for away tournaments
$500 updating equipment every year
$50 skate sharpening
Contrast the fees of playing hockey with other sports.

Without factoring in the cost of away tournaments, the price of playing rep-level soccer at the Oakville Soccer Club is approximately $1,500 per player, per season. (so, say $2,500 including away tournaments although it is likely less)

Kids can play football during 15-min school breaks. Hockey requires more equipment, more preparation, better facilities and more specific conditions.

Summer hockey is bit more expensive. Usually here, kids take up soccer at summer and hockey at winter. I mean, we are talking about kids here, right? Since makes no sense to compare costs on adults.

My little brother, who is now 10, plays both. Clubs charge pretty close the same amount for each sport/season. Granted, hockey club does bit more work with sales and such to make money. But not a significant difference. The only difference comes from the gear. And even that gets overblown. Full soccer gear is pretty expensive too.

I've actually talked about this with my uncle and stepdad pretty often. Both have kids that play hockey and soccer. I said the same thing, hockey is much more expensive. And they both disagreed. The difference is not that huge.

But again, I'm talking about kids who play soccer in the summer and hockey in the winter.

Wow, that's bonkers. 35 hundred is a lot more than anyone pays here. I guess Canada has much mor organized hockey for kids than we do. My brother plays with the Kokkola Hermes and they covered season fee all together with ticket sales. Not sure how much that amounted per kid, but nowhere near 35 hundred.

Yeah, with those numbers, hockey is way more expensive. But it's not the same here. For kids that is.

Edit: Obviously the prices go way up when we get to C/B junior hockey. But I'm talking about kids here. Who are just getting in to the sport.

Edit 2: just did a quick google search for B-junior aged hockey and soccer season costs. Two teams that operate near my city. Hockey and soccer are both just under 3000€ per season. So, no difference there. As I said, the difference comes from the gear.

Yeah that was ridicoluse amount of money to take...

This thread just cannot be serious.

A world junior win and a win in the world cup makes Finland the best hockey country in history?

Man, looks like this is going to some peoples heads too much.
