Is there a good site to see top valued cards for a certain series? For example if I'm buying a pack of Upper Deck 19-20 Series 2, which are the most valuable cards?

Only option is to check Ebay or COMC.com.

Lots of good Young Guns in that set: Makar, Kakko, Merzlikins, Suzuki, Dach, and Zadina.

Plus a shot at YG canvas cards of: Q. Hughes, J. Hughes, Dach, and Shesterkin.

Personally, I use COMC frequently (buying and selling). Although it’s a consignment website, you can see everyone’s asking price for any cards on their site. Note that the prices there could be very different than eBay but in terms of which cards are higher value than others, you can get a good idea of which ones are the better value.

2019-20 Upper Deck - [Base] Hockey Cards matching: Young guns Ungraded with Buy Now

Series 1 and 2 are all mixed together. I did a few things to help make the search easier. I did filter for only young guns, ungraded, and Buy it Now only (or else you’d see cards also listed from COMC listed on eBay at much lower prices). Near the top you will see it is sorted by card number (S2 YGs start at #451 - Dach). You can also sort by lowest or highest asking price instead near the top.

Whenever I’m looking for a value on a specific card, I use eBay. For general ideas of values that aren’t high-end sets, I just check COMC.

This might be a little OT, but it's a story concerning the current climate of the hobby.

As many know, the Covid has increased interest in sports cards. Boxes of cards at retail are impossible to find (if you see any basketball, you should buy them....all of them). Chronicles basketball just came out with a shelf life of two minutes on account of people buying them and putting them on eBay at five times the retail price.

This ridiculousness hasn't effected hockey.....yet. With next year's draft being a deep one, don't think this issue won't effect this sport, it will. The problem with UD, they will continue to produce cards for retail if there's demand where as Panini just produces what they do and that's it, which is why the prices in basketball have skyrocketed.

A lot of the BBall business has to do with Zion. Similar things happened in hockey when Crosby came out and to a lesser extent when McDavid came out.

There used to be a site for people to submit their error cards and Upper Deck had the worst issues, and from my own experience:

I’ve got a UD Series 1 Jersey card with no jersey material at all, when i asked for a replacement they told me i couldn’t have that card and they’d send me some random packs as refund, those never arrived lol

I’ve also had patch cards with a piece of patch from wrong team logo, cards that are ripped cause of a seam in the patch, cards where the piece of jersey is either too small or put in incorrectly, signature cards with the signature missing etc, i’ve even seen a same card that was numbered the same out of /999, UD series especially have tendency to have cards crunched from the top and bottom too while they put them in the pack etc.

their redemption system also is so bad that i’ve sold every redemption card before even trying to see what it was.
The Jersey card story is insane.

That's when you go to social media and post pictures until they respond.

And yes, UD series does get crimped alot. I do have a decent relationship with UD tho, so maybe I'm bias in their handling of the issues that come up for me.

My biggest issue with Panini was a Babe Ruth game used where they refused to replace it and offered points. I've seen first hand at the National, UD cutting bad autos up and replacing them right there (back in the day and the signer was Mark Prior). I will not accept points for a holy grail card of those points can't redeem me another holy grail card.

And scratches on Prizm cards. I hate to say one of those meticulous guys wearing gloves and being extra careful when breaking, but when it comes to prizm and the prices those cards can reach, I am.

FOTL boxes were horrible, printing lines, crimping, and scratches in every pack. That's not good business

Vintage Basketball is now where it should've been all the long. Dr. J rookies PSA 8 are going for $6K to 8K and there's currently a PSA 9 going for $15K for several days to go. Vintage is ALWAYS the way to go if you are looking for long-term investment.

My favorite 'error card' was from around 1997, I think it was Pinnacle, where I opened 2 packs and the last card in the first pack was cut in half with the other half being the first card in the next pack. I'm pretty sure I still have it somewhere in my card binders.

I'm going to open a case of 2005 UDs1 in the coming week.

I'll post how many Crosby's I get here.

I think I have like four cases of 15 UD too....

Now that was a great investment. Good for you.

Unfortunately I didn't get back into collecting until 2012. Was able to buy boxes going back to 2007. Still looking for a Crosby YG.

The odds are 1.7 per case. The cut quality on the run is pretty good. There may be a patch and a quad jersey in the box and Rookie Jersey cards and the /50 auto parallel, possible Crosby and Ovechkin. And the standard Exclusives, High Gloss and there is a rookie insert set that has a Crosby too.

Just checked I have a hedman bgs young guns with all 10s from the year before they started doing black label. Wonder if it's worth sending back to Beckett just got the label. Looks like hedman could have a HOF career.

Well I'll give you a cheat;

If you can still find blasters of 07, blasters with Kane also have Price 80% of the time.

Here's another cheat, if you can find retail boxes of UD 09 and back, the packs with the security stripe are the ones with the YGs.

Gettin Kane and Price in a Blaster seems crazy. Must find some blasters
I can say this with complete certainty.

The only time I didn't get the pair in one blaster I got a horribly wrecked Kane YG that was crimped beyond belief on top of another YG of someone.

I got really lucky. I say this to everyone;

If you gauge hobby boxes and if dealers are ridiculous, there's absolutely nothing wrong with retail, especially if your collecting YGs.

I would rather pay 20 bucks and get three YGs then blowing 200 for eight and a guarantee jersey of some third liner and maybe a case hit that, unless if it was a Blackhawk, wouldn't sell for anything in my area.

I opened two cases of 2007/08 blasters. Got two Price and only one Kane. Not sure if the other two came in the same blaster.

Worth picking up a McDavid young guns for ~$350(USD)? Not in perfect condition but also not bad at all, just not ideal for grading. I'm not looking to spend big though as I plan on just keeping it for my personal collection and don't care all that much if it's not a perfect 9-10 graded as I wont be getting it graded.

So that's a good price right now. However, there's been a massive increase in prices lately. Some people think things are going to keep rising, others are saying there's going to be a crash.

That's my concern yeah. I noticed just a couple of months ago many raw McDavid young guns were going for $200-350 pretty regularly it looks like. Then the playoffs happened and they're up now...not sure whether this is a sign of where they're headed or if I'll be able to find a better deal in the offseason

It will start to fall back to Earth. Prices are going up due to the extra income people have from the COVID.

Sellers market right now for sure. Fully expecting it to level out a little on some players. Im fully expecting Mackinnon and Draisaitl to rise or maintain where they are right now.
Take this with a grain of salt, but somebody I know in the industry thinks the leveling of prices is going to happen sooner then later.

Now, he's never steered me wrong in the past, so....

My opinion? Get rid of all of your low end going for ridiculous prices currently (outside of hockey, hockey pretty much has always been a stable sport, price wise)

Optic in all sports has had a huge uptick, stuff like that. Base topps baseball (Luis Robert rookies sell for 25 bucks? Come on, bruh) sell it now, those prices will not hold up.

The great thing about YGs is that many collect them and they still hold value for being "low end". I got a Cup McDavid rookie, then completely blew out my McDavid YGs, at one show for 25 bucks apiece and still came home with a couple when it was hovering around 100/150. Hell, I gave away AM YGs for free.

And for the guy who can get McD's for 350, personally, if they're graded PSA 10 I would do it in a heartbeat. Raw? No way.

You have to look at the trajectory of Crosby's YG with McDavids. That's how I prospect. Granted, I'm 100 % positive there's more McDavids out there compared to Crosby YGs, which is why I would only buy graded. Honestly, I only buy graded now period. I would rather have a PSA 8 then raw, but that's just me. I don't trust any scan on Fleabay or description, especially with the way the market is currently.

Good luck
