I asked this earlier, but where in the US is the best place online to buy newer Upper Deck boxes? Looking from 2009-10 to current.

3 best in terms of prices I've found. Back when I could get across the border, I'd order from these guys fairly regularly and have the products shipped to a PO box within the USA. They have some great sales, particularly on retail products.

Wife and I met in ‘78. Bought boxes and boxes of hockey cards from ‘78 to ‘82. Got them all neatly packed into binders for each year. Haven’t looked at them in decades.

You can get boxes of any type cheap.

Hockey cards are still relatively cheap compared currently to the basketball explosion.

This appears to be a fake autograph on a $1 card.

1) The slab is meaningless, it doesn't come from any of the recognized grading companies like PSA or BGS
2) The autograph is atrocious and so is the numbering...if UD really had this card signed, they take great care in the pens used, especially for a player like Mario Lemieux
3) Whenever UD has a player sign a previously released card as a Buyback, the card will come with an official hologrammed certificate of authenticity that will either be a separate card or it will be stuck as a hologram sticker on the back of the card...with a serial number

I really wanted to say the auto was fake, but I didn't know if the fella paid decent money for it.

The numbering where the number is smeared is a tell. UD wouldn't even let that leave the warehouse.

The basketball boom is 100% on account of blowout doing this.

The best advice? By directly from the companies if you have the money to spend. If you don't, eBay. Most big dealers will give you a break if you buy multiple boxes.

Speaking of Lafreniere’s Young Gun, I spoke with a card shop owner yesterday and apparently Beckett wrote in one of their magazine issues that Lafreniere’s YG would be in series 1, which I’d have expected anyway based on most #1 overalls. Because it seemed like a confirmation, distributors are already playing games and the pre-order for card shops sold out early. Expect S1 boxes to be more expensive this year as distributors slowly “find” more cases and they slowly trickle out after the first week. If anything I’d expect the games to happen more to some shops more than others.

On the plus side, the shop I was at was fully stocked with toploaders!

Toploaders are impossible to find.

In my area if you are buying from a shop you are paying double the price if not triple.

Based on the print run of the OS, sure.

But there's nothing rare about the update set.

It's in comparison to what else was produced that year. It was limited print run plus you had to mail in to get it. For the mass production in those years, it becomes "rare" by comparison. It isn't rare compared to the production of 1/1 and such things but the exact same concept of fabricated rarity.

Good to know. I figured Ultra Pros’ manufactures must be producing and shipping from China now. I was surprised that they were fully stocked... and this is a small shop in a small town lol. $4 for a pack of 35pt top loaders. Bought 4 of them because I have cards on eBay and was running low on supplies lol.

I’m curious as well as I tried looking up another auto from the same set about half an hour ago. Usually Cardboard Connection is my checklist go to but they didn’t list each player for this set. I was hoping to see if there were different odds/rarities for each player, which is often the case.

2nd buybacks box opened today - got a Joe Sakic quad black diamond autographed #'d 1/5. Not as excited for that one as I was for the Eichel pull lol. Not terrible but not great either for the price

Not having any luck at all with SPA this year. Have only opened 2 boxes but only half decent pull was a Cody Glass future watch with a damaged corner. Pulled 3 autos in each box at least despite most of them being garbage players. 3 future watch autos in the one I opened tonight including Glass.

Think I'm done with those (SPA). Hate buying cards off ebay but looks like that's what I'll have to do to get the cards I want lol

Wish I would've bought Q. Hughes and Makar before the playoffs started tho damn

SPA is a product I buy minimum six boxes and from the same case. It’s too hit or miss to only buy one loose box at a time.

Eeh, I think you give UD more credit than they deserve, out of all card manufactors they have the worst quality control by far, the card is 100% fake but the numbering isn’t really a tell on it’s own tbh.

This might be a little OT, but it's a story concerning the current climate of the hobby.

As many know, the Covid has increased interest in sports cards. Boxes of cards at retail are impossible to find (if you see any basketball, you should buy them....all of them). Chronicles basketball just came out with a shelf life of two minutes on account of people buying them and putting them on eBay at five times the retail price.

This ridiculousness hasn't effected hockey.....yet. With next year's draft being a deep one, don't think this issue won't effect this sport, it will. The problem with UD, they will continue to produce cards for retail if there's demand where as Panini just produces what they do and that's it, which is why the prices in basketball have skyrocketed.

There used to be a site for people to submit their error cards and Upper Deck had the worst issues, and from my own experience:

I’ve got a UD Series 1 Jersey card with no jersey material at all, when i asked for a replacement they told me i couldn’t have that card and they’d send me some random packs as refund, those never arrived lol

I’ve also had patch cards with a piece of patch from wrong team logo, cards that are ripped cause of a seam in the patch, cards where the piece of jersey is either too small or put in incorrectly, signature cards with the signature missing etc, i’ve even seen a same card that was numbered the same out of /999, UD series especially have tendency to have cards crunched from the top and bottom too while they put them in the pack etc.

their redemption system also is so bad that i’ve sold every redemption card before even trying to see what it was.

Is there a good site to see top valued cards for a certain series? For example if I'm buying a pack of Upper Deck 19-20 Series 2, which are the most valuable cards?
