Hockey Cards - Part III

Whats the best box blaster booster or anything in between I could buy right now for under 100? I just got an itch I need to scratch and I'm hoping you fine gentleman could lead me in the right direction. It's a Canadian 100 by the way. I know its not much, but I'm just hoping to see what you think best bang for buck is to maybe hit on something, no mvp or anything.

Thanks anybody who replies.

Tim Horton’s has cards right now. $1 for a pack of three, if you buy a coffee.

Wal-Mart has Allure and Metal. Might be able to get 2 boxes for that, but as they're just a small blaster they keep a lot of the more expensive cards out of the box, or at least they do for Series 1 and 2.

Still a chance to get a good card.

You could go to a card store and see what they have on clearance. I know out of the box in Ottawa had a lot of older sets on for decent price off.

I would not recommend buying blasters from Walmart. Walmart has horrible prices and most of the blasters, with the exception of Series 1/2, aren't likely to produce any good hits.

Would anyone consider KSA for authenticating signatures to be legitimate? I haven't seen many that they've done, or I'm not sure if they're new to the game, or not in thar capacity.
PSA, BGS, and JSA are the only authenticators I use. There's the one guy who's the bar for rock and roll signatures, too, but that's about it.

Granted, BGS got most of its hype for being the authenticators for pawn stars and they did authenticate a bogus auto on the show, PSA and JSA are just as 50/50.

These guys are looking at autographs on the internet just like everyone else when it comes to authentication.

That's a long road trip then. To ebay I go...
There's people selling boxes of them for fair price. However, they might be opened and resealed.

I'm pretty sure Tim hortons is in the states, but there isn't a lot. Isn't there one right in the new Pens arena ?

Shipping might be stupid to the states. It's 15 in Canada

I was kidding all around about Tim Hortons. Good place.

We have them a plenty in Michigan, I go for RC's so I don't usually make a trip for them.

As far as shipping goes, I know. I collect junior cards, and sometimes shipping for a card is absurd. Card cost a $1 USD, and $10 USD for shipping.

There is, but other than in New York (ROR drunk drove his vehicle into one in Buffalo) and the Detroit area, I haven’t seen much.

But the shipping is crazy because of priority mail. Last time I bought cards for someone and shipped it, it was $20, counting insurance, the bubble mailer, and postage. And that was shipping 20 packs of cards.

I've bought I believe 5 or 6 packs of the new Tim Horton's cards. First pack I got an Andreychuk celebrated moments (1 in 24 packs) and last pack I pulled the World's Best (1 in 100 packs) of Wayne Gretzky!

Unless there has been a recent change the US locations do not sell the cards. Stopped into Detroit, Grand Rapids and St. Louis locations in past years and 2 of 3 locations had no clue what I was talking about. One of them knew but confirmed "only available at the Canadian stores".

Looks like my BGS order is finally graded. Not completely sure about my grades but i have a good feeling based on most of my cards i think are pop of 1 (not expensive or highly desired cards)

If I understand lafreniere/panarin, lafreniere/crosby, Panarin auto, shesterkin canvas are re all BGS gem mint 9.5s. The lafreniere 1st goal is an 8 (wish i got sub grades on this card). The schneider is a 7.5 ouch (7 corners or it would have been 9.5)

The only card i have no idea is i submitted a shesterkin young guns. Hope this gems out

For all of my tough talk about not buying UD product I went to Walmart and bought UD product. Those bastards have their hooks in me and they know it! No fantastic pulls but I was pleased with the Guenther and Soderblom YG's.

I haven’t bought any packs in a few years, I’ve mainly collected Young Guns cards in the past. With the Bedard draft coming up, I think I’ll try my luck and buy a few UD Series 1 boxes when they come out.

What other series/packs will you guys be buying for a chance at a Bedard rookie?

Sad to see this. Sad they didn't have bars on the door/windows, which I assume will probably now go up.

Wish they had better pictures of the cards to make people more aware if they are approached to buy one of these cards. I do think their instagram account had better pictures, but not a lot of people go on there. Luckily also the card shops in Edmonton look out for one another as the second article which is linked in the first one shows that this shop did help in the arrest of a guy that stole another rare Gretzky card from another shop.

Bedard will not have his young guns in series 1, it has been confirmed that he will be in Series 2.

Crazy how Sid the Kid's YG are going for less than Connor McDavid's nowadays..
Recency bias. I’m guessing Crosby will eventually be worth more again because I think it’s a bit harder to come buy. McDavid was mass produced as I recall

Bill Russell rookie card sells for $660 grand. :amazed:

from espn.com:

A 1957 Topps Bill Russell rookie card sold for $660,000 at auction Thursday, setting a record for a card of the Boston Celtics great who died last year.

The sale, conducted by PWCC Marketplace, makes the Russell card the third-most-expensive vintage (pre-1980) basketball card of all time, according to Card Ladder.

The only other pre-1980 basketball cards that sold for more were a 1948 Bowman George Mikan rookie card ($800,000 in March 2022) and a 1961 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain rookie card ($670,000 in June).

This Russell rookie card -- which was graded an 8.5, between mint and near-mint, by Professional Sports Authenticator -- previously held the record for most expensive card of his when it sold for $630,000 in March 2021. There are only three copies of the card graded higher, and they have never surfaced for public auction.

i

The Bill Russell rookie card that sold for $660,000
was graded between mint and near-mint condition.

For years Russell was an enigma in the sports memorabilia hobby, but in June 2021 he facilitated the auction of more than 700 items from his Hall of Fame career. The collection was brought to market from December 2021 to April 2022 with Hunt Auctions, netting nearly $9 million, including a jersey worn in Russell's final game, the clinching win of the 1969 NBA Finals, that sold for more than $1 million.

Typical of Russell, he made sure proceeds benefited charities, with funds going to Mentor, a Boston-based nonprofit he co-founded, and Boston Celtics United for Social Justice, which fights racial injustice and social inequities in the greater Boston area.

Russell, a civil rights icon who was the first Black coach in any major professional sport and the first to win an NBA title, died July 31 at the age of 88. In August, the NBA announced that Russell's No. 6 would be retired across the league -- a first -- with only players already using the number being allowed to keep it.
