I’m not knocking anybodys hustle, but if you are posting TikTok’s about opening your card shop, are one of those idiots who would raid Walmarts at 6am and buy up all the retail so kids couldn’t get a damn blaster, and are crying poor and opening up a go fund me to keep your horrible idea afloat, I have zero sympathy for you.

Anybody with half a brain and firing neurons would tell you sports cards are the worst risk you can take. The only way you make a lot of money in this racket is if you spend alot of money and spend it wisely.

Sports cards were never some get rich scheme. This exact situation happened back in the 80’s and that was before the internet and all of those stores are gone.

This was a pump and dump during the pandemic. I really hope nobody here got burned by it.
The difference now is scarcity. Cards of the 1980s had near unlimited print runs.

Probably my favorite card I have . (Used to have, traded it since )
I did the complete opposite of what I should have. I sold way too early before the most recent boom. I had one of the best Draisaitl collections around.
I had 3 UD The Cup RPA Oil drop patches. 8 , 3 Colour patch Cup RPA with two graded BGS 9.5

That's why I like On Card Autographs. Requires the company to actually do something to print the card. Can't trust these greedy companies not to over print anything and everything.

On card autos are awesome. Hate when they cheap out and use the autos on a sticker that they slap on after. One of my favorite cadds to collect are SP Authentic Future Watch Autogrpahs.
One of the best true rookie cards there is . Assuming it’s autographed by the player and not just numbered /999
That line of cards is established and been around for awhile now. Not some cheap gimmick parallel either. Can’t really beat them for a price / collectability perspective.

So what's the verdict on this crop of rookies coming up? I understand Wright to Montreal means his card is going to be hot, but is it worth going for cases and trying for some pulls, or should I wait till next years crop, which seems to be a much stronger group?

It’s very hard to do but wait for the hype to die down before spending like crazy . Buying boxes is fine but chasing individual cards on eBay etc you pay out the arse when the new shiny toy first comes out

Got several more valuable cards (Gretzky rookie for example) but personally I value more more these. Leafs’: Lanny, Darryl, Tiger rookie cards. Those are the best to me. Loved that line.

Was going though all my childhood cards and I’m surprised at how many of the blue/green/red starquest cards I have of a bunch of different players. Guess they were popular back in around 2011.

Personally really like the look of the cards. (Pic isn’t mine but that’s the style I’m talking about)

You don’t think cards today have “near unlimited print runs”?

There’s more PSA 10 McDavid YGs then Lidstrom UD rookie 10’s, and Lidstrom came out during the first card boom.

There’s nothing scare about the crap being produced today.

Yah I value my Forsberg and Roy cards more then any Mcdavid, Matthews YG. Those cards have history and a story behind them as opposed to now ...Drove to wal mart, bought a tin, pulled a Mcdavid YG. Cool. Way different when I was a kid and it took effort to go anywhere to get cards lol. Sounds dumb I know.

That insert was in the 1998-99 UD Choice set, and was like 1 Starquest per pack or something. It was a 30 card set, and blue was the base, then went green, red, and finally gold (numbered out of 100, which is pretty rare considering the era and quantity of cards produced).

Being the right age for it, I loved the set, and wanted to get a complete blue/green/red set (I knew then gold was out of reach; even now I've only seen a few on eBay, for ridiculous prices). I never got the parallels, but have several blue sets completed.

Cool! Thanks for the info!

I only have my Rangers ones out rn (since I’m sorting everything out still) but for them I have Gretzky blue/green/red and Leetch blue & red. Got 6 of the blue Leetch, guess that was a popular one.

Got a ton from others teams as well, I’ll have to see if I have a full set of em. But never saw any gold so far

On card autos are the way to go. They are scarce by design. It requires the companies to do some actual work instead of just run the printers.

Not sure why they would be popular I'm 2011.

If you have gold for a good play.you got money. Well, a couple hundred

I was collecting a bunch from probably 2005 or so- 2012. I just made a guess that they were popular around then cuz of the amount I have. Maybe they were just handed down to me? Idk

Lol

There’s nothing “scarce” about on card autos when most hobby boxes contain at least two.

Scarce is high grade vintage. I’ll gladly trade any McDavid on card autos for psa 10 commons of anything early Parkhurst or Topps and laugh all the way to the bank.

Shoulda got one game in

I pulled a gold Samsonov one day buying a pack. It was awesome because I was a fan of his at the time. That pack also somehow had a red Messier, a couple of bobblehead cards, a prime choice reserve, and a bunch of WJC players that I was looking for. Probably is my best open ever.

Amazing prices these Young Gun cards are getting.
Most of them won't be anything special in the long run.
Now your talking.

Anybody who invested in young guns during the pandemic bought into the pump and dump. And sorry, that’s exactly what it was. The Gretzky sale didn’t help, but that’s a tough card high grade regardless.

Which hobby boxes contain 2 on card autos besides SPA?
