Lol. Should have looked at your avatar!

Yeah he was there during their peak too so I got stuff from Roy, Forsberg, Sakic etc. Coolest was getting to wear his Cup ring and I have a t-shirt from the locker room when they won.

Lucky you on the Orr autos. As a Wings fan you'll appreciate I have a Howe auto he signed for my father.

Yeah it's weird how I lost my overall joy for the hobby in the "new", however I will say cracking a pack is still the closest feeling I get to what Christmas was like as a kid.....there's a sort of magic to it.
Nice! Thats awesome you got behind the scenes access when they won. Ive seen some of the real Cardinals rings, never worn one though.

I have a lot of Howe autos. I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Hockey a couple times and have breakfast with him. He sent me a ton of signed stuff, I probably have close to 20 signed Howe items. My favorite is an art print, ~24x36" of "HOWE 9" and the 9 takes up the whole print and inside are illustrations of every phase of his hockey career - its signed by Gordie, Colleen and Mark and Marty.

Yea there's nothing like the joy of opening a pack and noticing one of the cards is shinier or fatter than the others...

One time ~10 years ago, my GF (now wife) went to the card shop with me and I had her pick my pack for me - pulled a Zetterberg jersey card and she goes "is that good?" lol. Every time I pulled a card like that it always felt like Christmas.

Another random card story that just popped into my head - I was like 10yrs old and the local public swimming pool had coin operated pack dispensers. I got two packs and the last card in the first pack was cut in half. I open the second pack and there's the other half of the card, embossed with the same pattern that was on the edge of the pack wrapper. I still have both halves in a box somewhere.

Caufield, Zegras, Drysdale, Jeannot, Knight, York, Veleno, Kupari. Who is missing? Seider, Raymond, Lundell. anyone else of note?

Seider, Raymond, Lundell, Byfield, Newhook, Mercer, Tomasino, Sillinger, McTavish, Eklund, Perfetti, Chinakhov, Holtz, Lundqvist, Podkolzin, Bernard-Docker, Dahlen, Thomson, and Vejmelka to say a few.

The Series 1 lineup has quite a few low-upside players with over half of them having not even played ten games this season. Additionally, eight of them haven't played a single game this season and two of them (Alsing and Michaelis) don't even have NHL contracts anymore.

That's not totally abnormal though. Series 2 depth will be even worse for depth. They normally save a few big names for series 2 and there's 30+ players getting a cup of coffee.

For those who enjoy vintage. Here's a bit of my graded collection. Love the older stuff and collect from the early 70's to late 80's.

Just looking for something in a tote downstairs and came across a few neat things.

A while back Rorschach and I were talking Team Pinnacle and how I had no problem getting them back in the day.....here's a couple Lemieux's.

Also came across 3 old Gretzky cards where two backs are blank and one a half print.

Was also some 80's wax wrappers I didn't take pictures of but crazy the gum residue smells the same 40 years later.

I've seen some OPC blank backs from 84/85 but I don't recall seeing a half print like the one you are displaying, that's interesting. Wonder if someone was half asleep on the production line at the OPC factory back in the day.

If you have any unopened 80's wax feel free to send them my way.:thumbu:

It does make you wonder how some of that happened? One thing I actually do not possess is anything unopened. It's funny because I am an ultra patient and disciplined person but for whatever reason, sealed cards is an itch I have to scratch. I once bought a few boxes of Pacific Atomic and decided I would keep a couple unopened. Lasted a couple months until I was like "screw that!" and broke down. Upside was one of them turned out to be the one and only hot box I ever got in my life! Every single pack had one or two jersey and/or swatch cards!! Now THAT was fun!

I hear ya. I collect unopened wax (boxes, packs, sticker box/packs, racks, etc.) from the late 70's to late 80's and it can be hard sometimes to just admire a box of OPC and not crack it open.

Have a display of rack packs from 82/83 and 83/84 that can be tempting. They make for fun conversation pieces when I do show them.

Wait. You wernt around for the blank back craze?

All you needed was a pin and patience.

I remember vividly some guy asking for 400 bucks for a Mattingly rookie right after watching him rip the back of the card off.

Those were the days

Beautiful card. I sold mine a few weeks ago because I got a really good offer. It's crazy how the price of vintage has gone up even in the last few months. I bought my Bossy OPC RC over the summer and sold it for about twice what I paid for it. I've done this for a few cards I decided didn't fit my collection after all and it's been really profitable.

I'm actually using that cash to buy autographed versions of those cards and I can often make a small profit in the exchange. For some reason a lot of people undervalue in-person signed cards. In the last few months I've done this for my rookies of Carbonneau, Damphousse, Richer, Robitaille, Lafleur, Potvin, Bourque and a 2nd year Beliveau, plus others I've been able to buy using the profits from cards I sold from my old collection. It's been fun.

I'm the same way. I tried to buy some boxes a few years ago and hold on, but just couldn't. Did again last year though, have a box each of Series 1 and 2, and really only haven't opened them because of how disappointed I was in them. Now holding out hope that maybe something wild will happen and they'll jump in value in the next few years; I certainly don't want them opened at this point.

I wasn't aware this thread existed.

Maybe it's time I show off my humongous big Kyle Clifford and Alexander Frolov collection. But then again I'm not sure if I wanna flex that hard.

Never understood how PSA 10, which is easier grade to get than BGS9.5, is worth twice as much. How did this happen ?
definitely been confused about this for years.... PSA cases are trash and provide absolutely no protection to the cards edges.... I know what you mean so many questionable gradings I've seen from them as well.... blows my mind must be like people and cigarettes ...

You mean around in terms of selling or around this thread (chain)?

People get amused by the number 10.

If there's a bunch of ebay you should stop and ask yourself if that is actually that hard to get.

BGS 10 is rare to see and black label... being on eBay daily I've only seen a few and I don't think I've ever seen a BGS black label Roy card on ebay.
