I really would rule out Ho-Sang. Has all the potential in the world and will be given every opportunity to win a spot on this team.

I would not be the least bit surprised to see him win a spot on our 2nd line with JT and Nylander. Bookmark this quote and see where he starts to play.

Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Ho Sang-Tavares-Nylander
Bunting-Kerfoot-Micheyev
Simmonds-Spezza-Kase
Engvall, Brooks

Ho Sang will be lucky to see time with the Marlies.

Exactly. A lot of talk here about a guy who will be in tough to stay in the Marlies lineup.

?? you don’t offer a guy a PTO on day 1 of Free Agency if you don’t think he has a serious shot of making the team. I think it’s an 80% chance he gets signed

this is great

we have a rookie President and a rookie GM and a rookie Coach and a bunch of overpaid kiddie players who play xbox after their games... and now we're going to add a rapper into the mix as well

this team will be unstoppable this year
wtf does rap or xbox have to do with winning? go look what some of the players of the last generations were doing in their free time.
doug gilmour for example...

some of these arguments are just so ridiculious.

With Keefe always giving players the benefit of the doubt, I wonder if he’ll give Ho-Sang a look with Tavares and Marner.

A 1-year deal and starting on the Marlies seems like the safe bet if he has a good camp, especially with how Galchenyuk was handled.

I can't see him earning an NHL gig with our other signings based on a good camp. He'd need to prove it a little longer IMO

Kid has the skill set, hopefully he realizes the golden opportunity he has here and gets in shape for the start of camp.

Ho-sang was a security blanket if the Ritchie/Kase signings fell through. Now with the roster packed full...

What has he done on the ice recently to make you feel this confident?

he has a high ceiling, what exactly did Galchenyuk do? And he earned a spot. Ho Sang is possibly more talented than Galchenyuk. Hell there are still coaches that swear he is as good as McDavid, there is an untapped potential there and he showed glimpses with the Islanders. I think he’s going to start with the Marlies but he will be a guy who gets a few games with us for sure, especially if there is injuries. He’s getting a two way

Gotta be at least 80% the other way. By definition PTOs are long shots to make the team.

yes but teams don’t normally agree to PTO’s on the first day of free agency. There is intentionality here and if you listen to Dubas’ presser it sounds like they are high on him and Dubas himself said they are going to give him every opportunity to make the team out of camp. He might surprise a lot of people, but I do like the upside. You can never have too much talent. I’d move Engvall to make a spot for him

If he has a good camp put him on the Marlies. If he responds well over a large sample size...great. If not, at least there's some increased interest in watching Marlie games this season outside of Robertson.

Engvall arguably does not have a spot himself at this point, and he is usually a LW/C defensive player. Ho-Sang is a RW playmaker who can't score and is even worse defensively.

He'd have to compete with Kase, Spezza, Simmonds, Anderson, and Malgin for a bottom 6 RW job, and I would take all 5 of them over Ho-Sang without a second thought. I would take Robertson, Brooks, Amadio, and Semyonov over Ho-Sang as well.

Malgin is not an NHL player. Anderson I like but I'm not sure he's cracking the roster right now. All I'm saying is Ho-Sang fits the mould of the type of team Dubas likes to build. Possession hockey player, can make plays and is a fast skater. I will not be surprised in the least if he earns a two way contract and sees games as a leaf over the course of an 82 schedule. and RW's can play on the left side.

And Ho-Sang is? Malgin has played almost 4x the number of NHL games and is a year younger than Ho-Sang.

Malgin is a possession hockey player, can make plays, and is a fast skater. He has also improved his shot, goes to the dirty areas to make plays, and was actually good when he was sent overseas. So besides having prestige that he never lived up to in the 7 years since he was drafted, what exactly does Ho-Sang have that Malgin does not?

Malgin deserves another shot at an NHL lineup. Unfortunately, we have too much depth for that to really happen here. So like Engvall, he should be moved for a pick and hope that he can turn into something elsewhere.

If Ho-Sang wants to be a guy on the Marlies who likely never gets a shot with the Leafs, then he can be a cheap guy to fill a spot on the RW depth chart. Although the Marlies already added Seney and have SDA, so I don't think they need another pure playmaker.

Maybe in Bantam or Midget. No coach on earth still thinks Ho-Sang > McDavid in any skill.

Galchenyuk was a top 3 pick and has scored 30 in the league. Ho-Sang will never score more than 15 in a year at best, even if he pans out.

I wouldn't count out Ho-Sang but the odds are against him and he'll have to be a standout. Unlikely to happen with the level of competition.

What?

How do you define "benefit of the doubt"?
Giving certain players opportunities to success when they aren’t capable of playing that high up in the lineup such as Thornton and Vesey. Therefore I can see Keefe giving the benefit of the doubt to Ho-Sang given his offensive skill and giving him a look from the start on that second line next to Tavares.

PTO's rarely make any team, they are usually there as a warm body to put out in scrimmage or preseason games.

May as well trade for Kadri, Laine. Have all three whine about how they should be playing with Matthews on the top line. We can't get out of the first round but we can be a source of entertainment and drama. I would watch this reality TV show.

PLOT TWIST: Sean Avery comes out of retirement to join leafs top Line. Evander Kane beats Kyle Dubas in a bet and is forced into the lineup.....All this and more in next weeks episode.
