I'm with you on the Scott Lynch front.

Clarifying question: are you saying **** Scott Lynch? Or just angry about the series being unfinished. I could understand both, I know he had some...stuff crop up but I didn't follow it close enough to know what resolution if any was reached. That aside, Lies of Locke Lamora is by far one of my favorite all-time reads. An almost perfect fantasy novel.

The worst part is that I was dumb and didn’t even look into it. I was just walking through barns and noble looking for a book and saw the box set. I heard there was an hbo show coming and the books were good so I bought them without realizing it wasn’t finished.

I had seen ASOIAF pop up repeatedly on lists so I nabbed book 1 for a beach trip back around 2007. I knocked out books 1 - 3 in like a month and a half excluding a week or so where I just had to put Storm of Swords down and digest things I had read. You'll probably know what part of the book that was.

I love Turbo to death but this dog is straight up mentally challenged like 95% of the time and 100% gets away with it because she comes in a cute package.

Lately she's decided any bowl of f***ing water needs to be finished and then wants to take a piss 30mins later. Like no shit you daft twat, wtf is she? Part camel? And if you don't take her within that 30mins, this little shit finds random areas to pee and then my house keeper tells me about it and I'm like what the f***? We have a good sense of her timing for her breaks but now with this insane water drinking it's all over the place.

I tried to take the bowl away at 9pm since she goes to bed when my wife does at 11, still wakes us up at 1am or 2am. Tried 7pm, 8pm, same shit. One night she decided she was gonna sing the ballad of her dipshit mix breed if we didn't get her some water, at f***ing 3am.

And you can't even be mad because she has a dumb f***ing cute face.

A little from column A and a little B. The Lynch stuff is weird with him, Bear, and Rowland. It's like Rowland released that statement which really didn't prove much and then Bear and others replied that were around at the time that says otherwise.

But from what I can remember, Rowland was likely exploiting Lynch and Lynch was likely also just horned out for a young author he had the hots for but the allegations seemed to go nowhere and a lot of other female authors kind of came out and dunked on Rowland and it seemingly went nowhere 4yrs after the fact. As far as I can tell, nothing else came out of that. Rowland has released novels since while Lynch hasn't since 2013 and the allegations were 2020. Book 4 is supposed to come out next month.

I think Lynch likely took advantage of the fact that she was flirting with him to further her career and she knew what she was doing and later felt bad about it and phrased it as grooming and abuse but the issue is others around at the time say she was doing things to use Lynch for clout so I'm not shocked either that it went nowhere and publishers likely looked into it and saw it was nothing since all involved weren't dropped by publishers. So it didn't affect me from reading the books after the fact. It wasn't like any of it went anywhere because if it was true then there'd be some damage to careers.

It's not like the Ed McDonald stuff where it was a deranged fan that went and made up shit and she had multiple accounts and went to great lengths to fabricate things and it was later found out and the other side of the metoo movement that gets ignored a lot is how false allegations ruin careers and they get to remain anonymous while outing the other and that simple act destroys most careers (we've seen several ruined in Hollywood for false allegations) and the fact that it shits on real victims and the abuse they face/faced.

I try not to like anyone anymore. When the hero you had growing up felt like hiding a rape and then thinking a bloke that raped an unconscious teen when she was 15 and he was 17 as a great story for resilience for the Pens, you tend to just wish more shit stayed private for your own ignorance and that law enforcement did their job properly and blokes wouldn't lie to help a mate.

Because I will tell you straight up, if a mate of mine did what Dan Quinn did and I was there, first it wouldn't happen because I'd be beating the shit out of him and second, I'd be driving his ass to the station and providing a statement and testifying against their ass. I've turned in a bloke I used to know, f*** anyone that acts like that.

Not buying series until they're finished can really f*** over newer authors and I wish people didn't go down that route due to a very small number of occurrences.

Although f*** Rothfuss indeed.

Your account mostly lines up with what I seem to recall. It basically sounded like Lynch was down for some extra-maritals and Rowlands was happy to oblige but then either changed her mind or wanted things to be more serious, in which Lynch was uninterested. I think it was generally agreed on that regardless, charges of grooming and abuse were a bit far-fetched but again, I certainly don't pretend to have any real sense of what may or may not have been real.

Also, and this is not to excuse behavior outside of his taking too long to write books, but Lynch has been pretty open about having some gnarly mental health issues.

This is fair and something I had not thought about, consider your advice heeded. I honestly need to get back to more reading. The last true "new" fantasy series I picked up was actually complete at the time I started, it was Licanius by James Islington and I found it quite good.

You know what I can’t ignore is this de-aging shit.

Tron Legacy never needed Bridges de-aged this entire time, because when you watch The Old Man, you see a fantastic actor portray a younger version of him that plays off enough of looking like Bridges to make it believable and if Tron really wanted to double down on making him look closer to Jeff, they could have just added some prosthetics to change enough and the old 80’s scenes re-shot with that new actor.

Bill Heck is the actor. He was great as a young Mickey in Ray Donovan too. I liked him in Locke & Key, Teacup, Sleepy Hollow, The Alienist, and The Americans.

I'm 36 and am in fairly decent shape. But yesterday I had to go to the ER for some chest pains that weren't going away. The EKG results weren't quite normal and the ER Doctor mentioned "heart attack" but needed the cardiologist to review it.

My blood work and chest x-ray were fine. And it turns out my EKG was fine too.

What a scary, shitty day.

Yes. The ER doctor suggested I talk with my primary care doctor about getting a stress test scheduled.

The "funny" thing is that I took all of this week off to help de-stress. 😅

I used to drink to destress, not healthy. So instead I visit a nearby metro park everyday and hike for an hour and a half. It’s helped me the most.

Glad it's all good. I'm also a fellow 36 and in fairly decent shape-er. Not sure it was the same thing, but there was a day or two a month back where my chest was really bothering me. Almost like, specifically my ribcage it felt like, especially if I was in any non-upright position. Thankfully went away, and it was definitely during a very stressful time.

That's quite the 180. Yeah, I'm sure your body (and mind) appreciates it!

Night and day difference. Over a 2 year period I blew up in size due to stress eating and drinking on top of it. Was also on SSRI’s as well. I feel so much better not eating fried food everyday, not drinking a 12 pack or half a bottle of bourbon a day, and not taking a mind altering drug. Rarely ever get worked up and the weight has fallen off rapidly as well. Still have work to do but I’m happy with the progress.

I tried therapy during this time and it just felt like I was stuck in a loop talking about the same issues all the time. They were making money off me but I was in the same spot. Almost felt like a racket lol.

Yeah I know several people who therapy changed their life essentially, and others who basically had your experience. I think some of it very much can be dependent on who you get as a therapist.

Speaking as a person who went through therapy and the spouse of one, I implore you to not give up.
This is super important. My wife has had people come to her and say that she is their 5th one. She had 1 client say that due to the severity of their trauma, they will not speak to them or take them as a client. That's bonkers!

It can take time to kiss a lot of frogs to find the right person from two angles:

1. A competency standpoint AND
2. A vibe/connection

If you don't have both then you're spinning your wheels and suggest you try another person. If you're talking about the same things over and over for 6+ months and not even noticing marginal improvement, then your therapist isn't good. A good therapist challenges, but also supports and lays out pathways on how to do the work.

This is the best I’ve been in years. Not drinking everyday and exercising everyday has been the best therapy I’ve had coupled with a clean diet. Not keeping toxic ppl in my life is one of the biggest helps as well. Why be friends or in romantic relationships with who don’t respect you? And speaking of romantic relationships why be with someone who is telling you over and over you can never do anything right or say “we’ll never be as good as this specific point in time”? As for the events that have happened in the past, yes they happened but they’re not going to define who I am.

Yeah I know several people who therapy changed their life essentially, and others who basically had your experience. I think some of it very much can be dependent on who you get as a therapist.

Oh for sure. I think what I needed most was a hardass and not a gentle person.
