Also, Hades, Hollow Knight, Divinity : Original Sin 2 and Shin Megami Tensei V are all really good.
Divinity OS2, get ready to put aside 200 hours for the most amazing adventure.
I so enjoyed the first one AND the monstrosity d: os2.
Spiritually. Same creator. The differing Xeno- games followed Tetsuya Takahashi's employers. Xenogears with Square, Xenosaga with Bandai Namco, and then Xenoblade with his own company (Monolith Soft, which is effectively a 2nd party studio mostly owned by Nintendo).

I highly, highly recommend those games with the caveat that they're absurdly huge and I haven't actually finished any of them. They aggressively scratch that philosophical itch I crave in my JRPGs.
Speaking of japanese stuff, THE BOY AND THE HERON is finally out in the states....
got the japanese version in my sights for watching with wifey one of these days.
Big Hayao Miyazaki admirer here... princess mononoke is, depending on my mood of the day, my favorite film top 3.

Try to get a glow in the dark one if you can with PLA. Eryone makes a good one of just the normal green glow in the dark that works very well and is quite easy to print with and it's pretty neat how much it glows when it gets UV exposure.
Didn't see this until now,
Just bought 4 matte pla's, (for starting) (i think the matte looks better than the shine of basic) black white red green... 2 silk pla's, gold and i think pink.
One pla-basic blue-grey.

Next round of buying would be either the .2mm or .6/8mm head (after we test out 4mm that it comes with. and possibly next round get hardened steel ((stainless steel??)or whatever the one for use with pet-g)... so next round of filament buys will be petg and maybe the .2mm / .4mm or higher /// different hotbed and glue stuff etc.... etc etc....

HEY.... question, what glue do you use to glue pieces together? just any glue? glue is glue innit?
but is there special glue?

Ok first, get some desicant packs and ziplock bags or a container that is air tight with those packs in. Moisture matters for filament. If there's moisture the filament will get brittle or have issues printing - stinging etc.

Also go to all3dp.com and study up on print temps and what not for each type - Pla, tpu, petg, abs, Asa, etc.

Then find a new notebook and dedicate it to the printer - you'll want to keep notes on best print temps for each filament. Color additives and different filament brands have different temps that make it work best. They'll have a range written on them which is very broad and vague. For example the Eryone Glow in the dark pla, says 190 is best but I have found 207 was better for me on my printers.

Now glue. Thing about these materials is some glue will eat through the materials. Pla is polylactic acid, it breaks down Eco friendly but some glues will melt through it.

Here's a good source for info. Like I said, great site for all the questions you'll have - print temp, glass temp, slicer info for best settings, everything.

Oh and quick printing tip - buy an extra build plate or two. PEI flexible are best. Easy to pop prints off and clean. Also these are very cool because the texture shows on the prints that touch build plates.

The notebook you keep is handy. You'll want to write down tweaks and what not to slicing settings or print settings and it helps as a quick guide to the nuances you'll face. Do a lot of test prints mate, just a lot. Do the temp tower, the level print tests, benchy is a typical first print to see how dialled in your printer is for detail, level, etc.

Benchy is going to help with calibration etc.

I gotta watch The Boy and The Heron as well. Been looking forward to it but would rather steam it on the iptv box.

BTW - Japan was super fun to visit.

Although my favorite place I've been the last 10 months is Vietnam. My wife was shocked but happy to see how much I loved it there given I despise places that are that hot. But the overwhelming sense of peace and calmness that washes over you when you're there is just hard to explain.

But back to Japan though, the art and movies by Miyazaki and his son, the many influences by him in Japanese animation was just awesome to see while there. I remember we were in Osaka and my wife turns to me and goes "I'm glad you made me watch My Neighbor Toro, Howls Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, and Akira." Akira was one I had to force her to sit and watch before we went and she saw the art and little things that reference it in so many of the art stores and Don Quijote's lol.

Don't get me on the absolute f***ing chaos those damn stores are. Their damn theme song is forever burned into my memory. We are going back to Japan next year for the Cherry Blossom festival like we did this year but other parts of Japan. Only trip I have this year is Orlando and Miami later in the year and maybe Hawaii again.

Loading the bloody Suica and ICOCA cards digitally was such a pain in the ass.

It is mostly for the kid, BUT... i will be the foreman basically when things go wrong and such... So yeah, I know moisture is crazy and especially in PA in the summer, the moisture / humidity is just outrageous so I honestly have no idea what to do with that, load and unload pla every single time I guess I'll have to do. It is in a poor location, firstly and mostly - because of the vibration... holy hell can that thing vibrate like a washing machine... that alone caught me by surprise and now have to improvise locations (we have no room man. No table space room at least where you can put a 3d printer).

So I kept the filament on the spool last night after the test 3color benchy mostly because it was a cool dry night (for once). So will do another test benchy probably 1 color when I move it to the new location. --- OH, yeah, I have the gold abs/pla/petg plate (i'm going to buy maybe 2/3 nozzles and 2 or so hotbeds (the stuff is cheap enough surprisingly)) and it does have a cool pattern / sparkle on the bottom of the benchy print.
Test print i'd say is ALMOST spot on. the back cabin opening is off a bit, slight closing of the circle near the top of the circle ---really barely noticeable, minor scuff, but it is there, will have to re-test on a STABLE TABLE. The table it is on now is an old school desk, the table kind for two students, so its long and flat but the legs are TOO LONG... man the printer vibrates to where wifey even joked about it =] the table doesn't stand a chance at all to keep sturdy with that little shaker on top

The thing is magic to me.... really. It basically tattoo's filament with a brain. Bambu is pretty good, happy with the recommendation, looked it up and had no question that was the quality we wanted. Kiddo loves the (bambu handy) app, gets to watch the prints, on the print cam etc....

I don't care much for perfect perfect perfect prints (i do obviously, but i dont want to stress over it to the point i give up... 3d benchy thingy gave me hope for how simple it was-a fragile confidence hah...
rambling... ok thanks again!!
I will start a lil printer bible

It's been a while since I've posted. I took an inadvertent break from just after St Paddy's Day til yesterday.

In March I started my application to attain my Professional Engineering (PE) license. I've been studying since then but have been so rudely interrupted with other life events. Such as:

  1. Completing my $7+ billion decade-long project. (now that that project is done my company is being acquired and I may not have a job come August)
  2. Adopting two kittens and dealing with everything that comes with having two little ones. They're getting fixed today.
  3. Planning my wedding which just happened on the 29th.

Hoping to finally take my 8-hour PE exam at the start of August.

Congrats on your nuptials good sir and best of luck with the exam.

I doubt it's comparable and I'm pretty certain you're younger than me but I've been working toward a MSIT, don't ever let them tell you that you're too old to learn some new tricks.

It doesn't bother me that my Neighbors got a dog, it bothers me that they did and clearly have no idea what to do with the Golden puppy and don't seem to want to take any advice or help. I just have this sick feeling that he's going to end up in a shelter in a year or less or be poorly trained, treated poorly, and not be up to date on his shots and registration and abandoned later on or not survive as long as the pup should.

All day I can hear their little shit of a son and their teenaged daughter yelling at the dog to do tricks, they keep the pup on their deck all day. This is why I think if you get a dog, you should be fined 10grand for bringing it back to the shelter, it's incredibly unfair to the dog to be owned by f***ing morons. Owning a rescue, I know how hard it is to deprogram the vile shit the dogs go through from shitty previous owners and it breaks my heart to see it and also makes me want to go all John Wick on their ass.

I'm getting very close to seeing if there's a way to report these idiots next door to BC SPCA or whatever the f*** they're called, anonymously. Hearing this poor puppy cry at night at 4am. At best, they'll find out these idiots probably didn't even register their puppy and the shots aren't up to date, which would be a fine I believe. All I heard yesterday was the Dad and the Daughter yell at this dog, like seriously, these morons should be fostering dogs first before they get one permanently because just by fostering they'd have a very quick idea of how a Dog isn't the pet that they can handle.

I wish people would check who they give pets to, it's completely unfair for them to go to absolute pillocks.

The movie did it's job. I got a heavy dose of nostalgia in the best way and the movies were never that deep and the one time they tried to make it deep it severely failed for part 3. It was a nice throw back to a franchise that is still fun to watch.

I was surprised it was as good as it was. I thought they’d f*** it up.

Besides the nostalgia boost it was actually a good film. Not a masterpiece or anything but it’s not supposed to be. A solid 7 outta 10.

The only thing that annoyed me was one actors veneers. People love the big and white ones when they were never that big & white to begin with. Looks f***ing weird.

They did better at combining nostalgia and a story than star wars has under Disney.

Going to move to Linux with windows 10 support being dropped in just about a year.

Windows actually pushing people away and seeing how many desperate people stay with their ad-ware / spyware / bloated os.

Linux, free. Open source. Secure. Not a data collecting frenzy. Stable. Almost no virus worry. Can play windows games on proton (steam).
Always loved linux and haven't used it since debian solely because of gaming.... well that no longer is the case and linux is a semi golden age of gaming and I've had it up to my big polish nose with micro$uck.
Good riddance.... 🚽

I didn't even realize this was out, and I'm shocked that it's anything close to good. But that's good to hear.

What came from Disney in live action has largely been shit. Rogue one was the only good thing that came out of them. The rest is formulaic trash that blokes convinced themselves is good but is mediocre as shit.

It's funny. They nail the animated stuff but can't for their shows and movies.

So I'm way behind on my Star Wars these days, I think the last I watched was Mandalorian. I will say though, the discourse around it is absolutely insane. Disney has done plenty wrong since taking over Star Wars, but man some of the shit people point at as problems are just so damn silly and nitpicky and the Lucas movies would fall apart under the same scrutiny. I do agree that they can't find the right balance of classic formula/nostalgia and making their own stories though. And that Rogue 1 is the best of the new live action movies. Disliking the stuff is fine, it's the people that act like Disney has tarnished Lucas's perfect 6 for 6 franchise as if the prequels aren't a hot mess that get me

I hate people that don't treat pets right. Just the worst. I just finished the Sopranos and my favorite thing in the show is how much this otherwise borderline psychopath loves animals. I agree they need to be better about who gets pets a lot of the time, but I don't agree about punishing for taking them back to the shelter. Sadly all that is likely to do is encourage bad pet owners to either continue being bad pet owners, or simply abandon/kill their unwanted pets. If someone can't handle their animal I absolutely want them to take it to the shelter. It's not ideal, but in that case it's the best option left.

I don't think anyone feels the Lucas movies are perfect by any stretch, they started the whole thing and it's beloved for that but there's a lot that didn't like the First 3, but love the original 3 only without seeing the first 3 had a great story executed poorly to add to Episodes 4-6. The issue is Disney bought the franchise and then didn't know how to tell new stories, so they just told old stories and basically copied old stories for new stories. Then they pushed their narratives and fans saw through their shit.

In Disney's defense, they absolutely did try telling a new story in The Last Jedi. The movie has a lot of problems, but it was absolutely an attempt to tell a different story and take things in a different direction. And then when the fandom rejected it Disney WAY overcorrected and made Rise of Skywalker, which is just an all around mess. I think the new trilogy could have been solid if they let it finish out along the road set in The Last Jedi. Flawed like the prequels, but still solid. I still think the Disney sequels are better through 2 movies than the prequels were through 2 movies.

At this point I feel like it's an almost impossible task. I think they will get backlash if they make something too similar or too different, people are just looking to hate it before it even comes out.

'Nuff said.

I still think the disney sequels are better through 2 movies than the prequels were through 2 movies.
I don't. The first two prequels tell the story of the original 3 movies that needed to be told. They weren't executed well at all but it at least added to the story. The first two of the Disney movies were just a waste and shit all over the original cast. First they didn't realize Kylo was the better character and then f***ed that all up, they wanted this female super hero in Rey and made it very obvious.

Rey wasn't a great character, everything about her was forced on you - Her quick abilities to pick up anything and everything related to the force, which made the previous force sensitive Jedi's and Sith's look like a joke with their years of training since they were youths. Kylo to me was the one thing they absolutely f***ing nailed. For as hard as those 3 movies are to watch, Kylo f***ing killed it each movie and then they basically turned him into Darth Vader, needed to be brought back to the light and then oop, he dead.

Imagine Anakin, a being made out of the force itself and the strongest force sensitive being, can't even do half the shit Rey could, lol. It's like watch the shit before you make the new shit, at least pretend you saw the source material once Disney. Erso was easier to endear yourself to than Rey.

No clue who this fan is but she made all the points needed to be made about the issues with Disney and their claims of toxic fans for not liking their new versions.

At this point I feel like it's an almost impossible task. I think they will get backlash if they make something too similar or too different, people are just looking to hate it before it even comes out.

I don't think it's impossible at all - They've made 3 pretty good shows in Ahsoka, Mando, and Andor.

The only annoying thing about Mando is the first half boring, 2nd half all the good stuff method they do each season.

Andor, for it being a show that really didn't need to be made considering Rogue One, is actually pretty good all throughout. I wasn't a fan at first, but I watched it finally through a proper rewatch and it was good. Acolyte is so god awful, its like someone asked AI to tell them what Star Wars was and then made the entire show based off of that info. Ahsoka is also pretty good, albeit the animated shows really helped create her fan base and the lore for it quite well and most went into that fully armed with that deep knowledge of those characters already.

Obi-Wan is an epic joke, Boba Fett is also in that same boat and so is Acolyte.

The issue with Star Wars is Acolyte tried to make something before Episode 1 and its a mess. They had so much potential to do something cool with the material out there and instead made an absolute dud of a show and because it's reviewed so poorly with fans, they pushed this toxic fan narrative which was comical since Ahsoka - a largely female cast as well, was rated incredibly high by the same fans where it's rated higher than Obi-Wan for example. They've been playing in the same sandbox as the original 6 and can't figure out how to make something new that isn't adapted from animation or a previous movie expanded into a show. Acolyte should have been good, it could've been good. It sadly is pretty awful instead.

I like how Poe went from this hot shot pilot to being an absolute muppet the rest of the way that got the Joey Tribbiani and Homer Simpson treatment.
