Almost got all my gear now for my electric scooter (motorcycle gear). Up next...buy an EUC! I been wanting 1 of those for a couple years now. Just hopefully I don't get hit by a car or TRUCK(like on my e-bike) on one of those. I should probably get back to my roller blades while I am at it, I live near Dallas road which is a perfect place to blade on. I am pretty defensive now compared to the days before I was hit by a truck, that sucked.

RIP Carl Weathers
RIP mr Creed.

So Mr and Mrs Smith is more about the show rebooted vs the Movie. The original show btw was fantastic actually.

This new version? Garbage. Dong Lover is fine as a rapper and overly hyped satirical shows like Atlanta, but as a leading man? He just isn't it. The first 5mins you had a potential Mr and Mrs Smith for a show, killed off.

Also no offense but Maya Erskine is a good voice actor but any live action stuff I've seen her in has been meh performances from her. They green lit this thing because of Atlanta and PEN15 hype.

I love Atlanta, but not for his character certainly. Honestly I haven't seen him in all that much else other than Community and 30 Rock. I think he's better at that stuff acting-wise.

Damn. That's a tough one.

The funny thing about Atlanta is everything was good except Glover's character lol. Henry, Stanfield, and Beetz carry that show. Glover's character is just a soggy piece of toast in the show.

Even in Community he was good in the first two seasons but he just became like Homer, more annoying as the show went on.

Nah I don’t agree. He’s still good in Atlanta, just not as good as the others. But part of that is certainly writing the character to be a turd.

and he’s the funniest part of community imo, though I like the show less than most.

I like him as a writer more than an actor. I don't think he carries a lead role well at all. The others on Atlanta hold a far better screen presence than Glover, for me anyway.

agreed he's probably a better writer, and he's a better "silly" comedy actor himself. Though that group he got in Atlanta is pretty ridiculous, so not holding the same screen presence as them isn't surprising even if he's pretty good. Which is I think where he lands as an actor overall from what I've seen. But the other stars of that show are really just something else entirely. They are my favorite part of pretty much anything they're a part of.

See I think when you have Lakeith Stanfield, Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, it makes it so even you and I could be in that show and somehow look decent, not that Donald Glover is awful, he’s just nowhere near as versatile as either of those actors. All 3 of them are freaking awesome in everything I’ve them in and I’ve seen them in a ton of things. Donald Glover and his brother are great at writing and producing and should get a lot more into that to get more black voices into a field that needs more. I would love Glover and his brother to sign with DCU and do Static Shock for example, I think for him to be in charge of a character that needs to be seen in live action would be awesome.

But in Mr & Mrs Smith? The writing is lazy, the acting is even lazier, almost everyone in that show but the two leads are actually good, which is just weird. To make the female lead basically all that’s annoying about people into one character and then Glover’s character is just a really bad stereotype and trope for movies like this. Fans also keep comparing it to Mr & Mrs Smith the Brad Pitt and Jolie movie, which was a reboot of a fantastic show from 1996 that needed to be more than 1 season. This show is closer to the 1996 show than the movie, I actually think if they didn’t take inspiration from the Pitt movie and actually paid attention to the Bakula and Bello show, it’d actually be good. But as for Glover in Atlanta, I think there are times his character’s arc is good, but he leaned hard into the black issues that I liked to see represented but it was done in a very paranoid way and Zazie Beetz’s character was the type that would almost normalize the behavior of others while Glover’s character would see the sick and twisted side and keep questioning why no one else does. It was good for the first couple of seasons but it just kept going on and on with his character…there was very little growth in that area or for most of his character’s arc in the show. Everyone else showed growth but his, I think he maybe just lost focus on how to push his character’s story forward.

This really feels like an odd choice for him to do. Just not his normal style, and he seems like someone that wouldn't want to do a reboot like that. I just looked at the cast for the first time and man is it pretty stacked. Weird show to have guys like Paul Dano and Alexander Skarsgard on board.

It was just a really weird show in S3 and S4. I really liked a lot of it, but other parts didn't hit as well.

I really liked the absurdity of Atlanta (as well as the non-absurd parts). Hopefully they can bring some of that magic to the Lando series or movie or whatever it is now.

And Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a series I'll definitely watch the first few episodes. Hoping to like it.

Also hoping to like The Brothers Sun on Netflix. Haven't started that yet but the IMDb score is decent. I suggested we start it but the fiancée was like "that's a total bro show" based on the preview.

They surrounded him with as many solid actors as they could and then wasted them and it couldn’t hide the weaknesses in the writing and the casting of Erskine and Glover in their roles. They were almost better off not putting them in the promotional pictures and just used the title of Mr & Mrs Smith and kept it revolving. Each season, a new duo, etc. But yeah, I’d be shocked if this show got a 2nd season, it’s not good. The Peripheral was actually f***ing good and didn’t get a 2nd season even if it was during the writers strike, it’s not like this show didn’t suffer either during it and still got released. The Peripheral being cancelled still pisses me off.

Let’s just go with this - Glover’s character is Ex-Military, so in the first scene in the house with Erskine, he opens a hidden gun storage and goes “Cool, guns.” It’s just not as clever as some reviews pretend its being, it’s almost like the reviews are paid by Amazon given how much they paid Glover recently to create for them (8 figure Deal for him and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who was originally supposed to create the show but left and Glover and his team took over, likely why she left).

I can see why Phoebe Waller-Bridge bailed on this show, an amazing writer herself and actress, she knew shit when she saw it. She worked on that show for half a year and then Glover and his team decided they wanted it to be different and she left. I wonder what her idea was vs the turd they ended up with. This is something she would have killed with, Glover? Just isn’t the type of project you’d think he’d thrive with and well, the show is pretty awful. I don’t get these reviews about this amazing chemistry between he and Erskine. You expect awkwardness given the situation in the show but it just never gets better, her character is cringey and Glover plays Glover in Atlanta but in an Espionage role.

I really liked the absurdity of Atlanta (as well as the non-absurd parts). Hopefully they can bring some of that magic to the Lando series or movie or whatever it is now.

The Brothers Sun is fun, definitely a good show. I’d say skip Mr & Mrs Smith, but your fiancé might like that. My wife likes garbage shows, Mr & Mrs Smith is right up her alley.

The Peripheral is based on a William Gibson book. And William Gibson is from/grew up in Wytheville, VA which he absolutely despises. I think that this book/series references it.

This is where the fiancee is from.

To be fair, it totally does suck. But only going for a long weekend every few months isn't so bad.

I am a fan of Gibson and of the book so I would be overly critical of the show if it sucked (like Ready Player One - Spielturd ruined that movie in so many f***ing ways I am almost too angry to even explain) and I am very worried about what is done to Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, it is being turned into a show but I am really not a fan of the casting at all. I like Edgerton and Connelly but for these roles? Definitely not. If you’ve read the book, you’d know. For one, how is Jennifer Connelly cast as Daniela Vargas (Dessen) in this?

That is f***ing stupid. At one point he goes looking for her in the first intro into the alternate universe (don’t worry it doesn’t spoil anything) and he looks her up by her maiden name. A very European and Jewish Connelly is by no f***ing means someone of Latin heritage. Hollywood is not lacking in amazing actors that can portray characters that are of an ethnic minority.

Apple+ usually does well with these shows from adaptations but this one, f*** off. I am a fan of Gibson and the book and The Peripheral actually did a great job with the source material and casting, just nailing stuff that I didn’t expect them to. The changes made sense as the book has been attempted to be adapted for a long time and failed and this time someone nails it and they cancel it. Then Dark Matter gets green lit and they decide to cast big names in roles that doesn’t really work at all.

I'm actually reading that book right now so this is where I stopped reading your post.
Well imagine picturing Daniela Vargas not being what Daniela Vargas should be since I am guessing you’re either within Chapters 1-3 or 1-5ish. At one point you’re reading from her POV. Such a stupid casting choice, Jennifer Connelly…

Btw, read Recusion after and Punch Escrow if you like Dark Matter.

Why’s it so hard to hire competent people? Nothing but crap since Covid everywhere. Also everyone is hiring but passing on everyone because they want experience only.

Because we're technically above full employment. Best candidates basically have their pick of jobs.
