OT: HFNYR Official Foodie Thread including Craft Beer, Wine & Liquor

Same brother. Same. I’d drink that stuff year round though, and same with the sugar rim.
If I would drink it year round, but i'd probably be 800 pounds then

Those Southen Tier beers, with the sugar rim, are probably 500 calories a pop, and they are so so delicious that I can quickly lose track of how many i've had (which is also bad since there is a ton of alcohol him them lol).

Sir, I hear you loud and clear.

If they were a year round beer and I drank beer as often as I’d like, I would certainly be an obese mess. As it is, I drink way more than I probably should but do a lot of seltzers and neat whiskey to keep the calories lower, and I’m definitely 15lbs heavier than I’d be if I just removed alcohol from my life.

Fate is funny. One thing we worried about before I lost my job was when we’d be able to go visit Poland, even if we could afford it. My wife finally got her green card several months ago and hasn’t been home in 12 years. Her siblings have visited, but she hasn’t seen her parents. They’ve never met their grandson. Or son in law.

Well, I start a new job in October and we’re leaving around September 25th to get settled in (still haven’t really figured out moving costs). Her birthday is September 3rd. Well, her whole family pitched in to buy two round trip tickets to Poland so… I’m in the airport waiting to board a flight to Poland. With a 14 month old. Wish me luck.

Have fun! Central Europe is seriously underrated as a tourist destination. Tons of history, and amazing food and drink - enjoy!

So what Beers did you drink? I'm guessing some adjuncted stouts and then onto the haze. It's a beautiful taproom.

I like Hazy IPA’s , Double and Triple IPA’s, porters, and stouts. I love those barrel age Stouts, which they had one, it was packing like 14% alc. I tend to avoid the single APA’s and IPAs because they tend to be more bitter will usually be brown in color.

I was very impressed with the tap room. It’s in a decent location, also have Woodbury commons about 20-25 mins away, and can make a trip out of it.

Equilibrium has two beers they put marshmallows in, one is a single hazy ipa, the other double hazy IPA cuts any bitterness to it, and just tastes great. Marshmallow is not overkill.

There's a few good breweries and taprooms around that area. Wineries too if you're into that and plenty of good food. Message me next time you're coming "upstate" and I can give you some advice.

Looking for a restaurant recommendation around the south street seaport. Going to be staying a night near there with the Mrs soon.

Chicken cutlet on a bed of garlic saute'd rapini with roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella (torched) & some basil

Drizzled some olive oil on the hoagie roll & used the broiler so only that side would toast

Wife said "This is, literally, THE BEST sandwich I've ever eaten
Looks awesome. Bravo. I sometimes make a Chicken cutlet sandwich with prosciutto & some fresh mozz.

My only critique might be the bread depending where it was sourced. Hero rolls can be so hit or miss. Packaged variety from the grocery stores usually suck, but ones from local bakeries can turn an average sandwich into an all star.

I’m still jet lagged, or just confused, so I’m not positive if this is day 3 or day 4 of our trip, but we have been all over the south of the country so far, including a couple of days in the Tatra mountains, and my observations thus far have been:

Bread is way fresher/less artificial and it makes me feel a lot less reluctant to enjoy some.

They try to emulate a lot of American food, and it’s not bad, some (like a cheeseburger I ate) is even pretty damn good by any standard, but there’s really no reason to eat that stuff if you’re from out of town; the local stuff is more novel and better.

Kielbasa here is far better. We eat fresh kielsbasa from a local polish deli in NJ - my wife knows about 20 and honed in on the best one - it’s still less salty and more meaty/fresh in country.

Kebab is a big deal. There’s Donner/Turkish kebab, which I love, but also just grilled pork, sausage, veg and it’s also good.

I’ve already tried at least 10 new beers, beyond what I’d already sampled from the Polish, Czech and German offering. Fact is, it simply does not hold a candle to American craft brewing. Not even close.

Scotch is wildly cheaper here. Especially without sales tax. Bottles that would run me $115 at home are around $75 here, tax included.

I have grilled steaks and smoke sausage often but today was the first time I have grilled chicken tenders. Always been nervous about that for some reason. I marinated in Bachans Japanese BBQ Sauce for around 2-3 hours. Put on grill for around 4 minutes a side till at least 165 and it was that easy. No idea why I waited so long. Also did some jalapeno smoked sausage. Will get some ribeye to grill on Monday. Steaks are so expensive nowadays so I wait for sales. :)

Sadly in FL... aka America's wang...

We don't really have access to good bread. Publix makes the best that we can get probably & that's where I got them lol

The White House Subshop in Atlantic City has the best bread... made right down the street but that's a little far for me

Florida - Fresh Market bread > Publix bread.

Still nowhere close to NY.
