I honestly hope that wasn't strategy, its 6 on 5, rule 1 is go to a d man, opposite d man sits on the boards at the blue line, same time as D man1 gets possession McDavid should be headed to the right side hash marks along the boards.
so you get the D to D pass then a quick pass down to McDavid then you now have possession, down low and open ice and multiple pass options.
They just played on the left side of the ice, would gain possession and make a small pass and shoot the puck back into the crowd.
It was just bad IMO
