What an assortment of jersey's for Adaari Vaal! One of the best suitcases in all of HF Boards history. What a career it's been for this guy. I would say he is a bit of a European legend and a high end player outside of the NHL. Adaari Vaal from the outset was a guy that many scouts didn't see too much upside in, but there may have been some who thought he could be a serviceable guy in your bottom six. One of Vaal's main sticking points was his speed. He was lightning quick and could pass a puck. Vaal had a good start in Europe and it was enough to make him a second round pick to the Nashville Predators. Vaal had some great stints in the AHL. In my opinion he is one of the best AHL players I've seen out of this superstar. He was very skilled and able to put up quite a bit of points and he got a cup of tea with the Predators and did decently well based on his play time. The next few years of his life was a whirl wind, Vaal bounced between teams getting claimed off waivers multiple times. Then he found some stability with the Calgary Flames which kind of put him in position to be signed by the eventual cup winners the Toronto Maple Leafs. There he had one of his better seasons as a depth player having 32 points in 52 games. However it was his last NHL season before going over and being a force in Europe. It's sad that NHL teams couldn't see the value in Vaal as a fourth line center that can bring speed and skill to the line up. I am glad that he was able to extend his career in Europe for a further 8 seasons and not just be a run of the mill player, but a star player on the teams he was on. Congrats on a great career!

Another great one bites the dust! The great Gallowitsch has called it a career. When I look back at Gallowitsch's career I'm always reminded of a really good player who could have been a key piece for a championship winner. Things just never fell for him in that way despite him having a lot of offensive talent. Coming out playing his junior years in Europe, Gallowitsch seemed like the perfect fit for the Flames. He had been playing pro for two-years prior to signing his ELC with the Flames and he had been a great secondary scorer with EC-KAC. The Flames were hoping he'd bring some of that over to North America and he did just that. He had a really good rookie season and things looked on the up for him in Calgary. With Gallowitsch I think the best part of his game is that he was fast and could really play in a top 6 or bottom 6 role. What also made it tough to follow is that no teach really gave Gallowitsch an opportunity to be a first line guy. He was probably the best 2nd liner available and that's why so many teams traded for him or tried to sign him. They knew you were probably going to get a fast winger, who can give you 40-55 points on the year. It was a nice thing to see Gallowitsch really get a ton of opportunity in Vegas. He really came into his own during those seasons. I kind of wish we got to see Gallowitsch more in the playoffs. He seemed to really turn it up in the playoffs. His lack of playoff success was a key for Austria. He was able to be someone Austria could lean on. He's helped them to many different World Championships Div 1A Medals! Overall he had a great career and though he may have benefitted from having some consistency on one team, he proved his worth!
