Two goals for Frank. Leads AHL rookies with 20 now.
Man… Frank just knows how to score. I would like to see them agree to a two-year deal. Two-way in first year and one-way in second year. They have done that a fair bit. He really needs to play in the top-9. I can see him getting games but not a full time starter so give him a chance to earn a spot. Unsure if he would get a year of waivers or not. I don’t think so.

Got to check out the South Carolina game. Was my first ECHL game. Florida had a pretty solid atmosphere, which makes sense since they’re the defending champs. Biggest takeaway, the referees were absolute dog shit. They called some of the most ticky tack penalties but left go some major obvious ones. The Rays lost the game in overtime only because Florida’s goaltender stood on his head all game.

Stevenson started. Was sent down and made it in time for the game. Thought he played fairly well. Wasn’t contested a lot each period but he made enough saves to keep the rays in it.

Hughes should be in the AHL. He’s a lot bigger than I thought he’d be. They had him on the top line, top PP unit and the top PK tandem. Played a lot of minutes and was extremely noticeable. He battled all over the ice and played with a bit of a mean steak. I really hope they call him up and see how he does.

Has didn’t really stand out one way or another. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes that’s bad. Benton Maass had two fights and was ejected at the end of the first. Never thought he’d be the one to be chuckin em.

I think SC definitely has a chance to make a deep run this year. Was impressed by their overall compete level and their team speed.

Never been to a teddy bear toss before, unfortunately that hasn't changed this year. Hoping the Bears keep the fire burning against a mightily struggling Bridgeport team.

Always wondered what the protocol is if the home team gets shut out on toss night, surely it's happened before (not in Hershey, I don't think, but it seems like practically every minor/junior league team does it)?

That is amazing you asked this before the game. Now we all blame you! Haha.

Fired after he coached Belleville to a 5-3 win. Press release goes out at 10:45pm on a Thursday night before the all star game. Sens gonna Sen

Could be but they're 28th out of 32 AHL teams in points percentage, so maybe just that?
I think it’s deeper than that. From what I’ve read their squad has been a revolving door of players due to injuries and call ups. The initial speculation is a clash between Mann and Ottawa management regarding playing style/system cohesion and Mann being fed up with roster decisions. I guess Ottawa recently sent down two prospects for the All Star break and told Belleville they can only practice, not play.

I really enjoyed Mann as a coach from his time with Hershey but there were always rumors that he could get abrasive. He was the one who initially clashed with Vrana and benched him in the playoffs. He also was rumored to have been in a tiff with Bourque during his final season in Hershey and it led to some locker room division. I did notice Mann wasn’t in the Bourque tribute video at all, despite being the longest tenured coach he had in Hershey as both an assistant and head coach.

He is a solid developmental coach though. He spent a good amount of time with guys like Travis Boyd and Chandler Stephenson. He also turned Djoos into a better prospect than Bowey during their tenure.

Interesting. Do AHL coaches get NHL prescouting material though? That seems kind of odd. His brother is the assistant GM for the Sens, so this story could get even crazier if that is indeed true.
Yes, some scouting information from NHL specific scouting is share with the AHL coaches. In particular, if the information relates to a system or something more organizational that they want to make sure their 'prospects' are aware of. A few teams also include their AHL coaches in some of their decision making discussions for input.

Come on. Jump into the conspiracy pool with me. Waters are warm and deep. You know you want to
I just don’t buy that he was sharing internal information as the reasoning for him being canned mid season. His brother is the assistant GM. Why would he possibly tarnish both his brother’s and his own reputation within the old boys club that is the NHL?

Plus, why say it was a system cohesion issue in the press release? That makes it look even worse for Ottawa when their head coach was recently praising how the prospects would be recalled and seamlessly jump into the lineup/system that was implemented. Ottawa could have simply said something like, “Mann was relieved of his duties for conduct detrimental to the team/organization” instead and it would have fit the narrative a lot better if he was sending internal information to other NHL teams. Just very odd considering AHL head coaches aren’t fired mid season very often.

It’s not passing the smell test.
