Here's the cliff, everyone jump. EDM wins 4-2

Well I am as big a Karlsson fan as there is on this board and I hate when Kings fans trash him to try and prop Doughty up. He is a game changing NHL player and if there was an open draft on every player I think he goes Top 10.

But Karlsson (or any other defenseman in the NHL) is not capable of playing at the level Drew played at in the 3rd period of tonights game, that was complete domination all over the ice, from the rushes, to the goal, to the defensive play on Eberle it was a clinic.

Now we ask ourselves why doesn't Drew play like that more often? I really think the coaches take a to conservative approach in letting him play his pond hockey style that he was born to play. I guarantee you if we see that Drew Doughty most nights the Kings are not missing the playoffs.

Doughty is amazing in being able to play at as high a level as he does 29 minutes a night all season long, but it would be superhuman to be at top gear (i.e. his 3rd period tonight) 29 minutes a game, 82 games a season + playoffs.

To suggest that a probability will "inevitably even out" means it wasn't a probability to begin with. If you flip a coin a billion times it is not always 1/2 head and 1/2 tail.

This is not a issue with nature "owing" us losses. We failed because of no effort.

Pretty funny that literally 3 days ago people were talking (ONCE AGAIN) about jumping over Vancouver in the standings... "Poop thy pants, Vancouver". Now people are hoping for the improbable.

Doughty needs to bring it more often no doubt. But you will see his best playoff hockey next 2 games as it is playoff time now. There is no player better when chips are down then Doughty. He is simply flat out better when he brings it. Would be sad to see Flames and Jets play to at OT tie.

Man what if the Kings are still in it when they play the sharks, and all they need to do is beat the sharks, and they lose?

They need 4 points no matter what. Only way 3 points (W in Calgary, OT/SO L in San Jose) would be OK is if somehow Winnipeg lost their next two games (aka not happening).

Not true if they beat Flames and Flames lose to Jets then Kings only need a point against Sharks for 3rd place in Pacific.

Big money and contract length should only be going to players that will be locked up in their prime production years(23 to 28).

The Cap has changed the NHL. So guys like Toffoli in the future going forward, should receive the bulk of the cap space and contract length.

Not players entering their 30's. Lombardi has to change a little, from his old school mentality.

A perfect example is Kopitar's second contract, that was the correct move, the Kings got Kopitar at a good price for all of his prime production years. Same with Doughty.

If Lombardi is smart (like I think he is) he will purchase at least two years of Toffoli's UFA window
.

Agreed. I think the Toffoli and Sekera contracts, along with the acquisition of a #3 center are Dean's biggest priorities this off season. If he can buy a couple years of Toffoli's UFA status at a cap hit of around $4M, I would not be shocked to see it done.

The problem with being a fan is that we can sometimes expect perfection from other human beings. Every right move, at the right time, from the GM. Every coaching decision should be the right one, which means the one that we want. Every shift, game, or season should be productive. If that was possible, every team would win every game every year.

Easy to get used to those long playoff runs as a fan. The rush of adrenaline. The highs and lows. It's fun. When the team can't seemingly get up for season altering games, not as much fun.

I don't doubt Kopitar is just a distracted man in general. Moves out of the house with his family to live with new wife. Wife is pregnant most of the season. Has a daughter. On the road a lot after having daughter. There's a lot going on in his life away from the rink. He'd never admit it, no player would. But it's pretty obvious. Head's not totally in the game. Fine.

He's earned a bad season. As long as he doesn't come back next season and just flat out suck.

Kopitar still has a shot at 50 assists this season, that's incredible with how hot/cold he has ran all season long.

Probably the worst season for Kopitar to slump, too. For himself and for the Kings. They needed him badly this year and he just didn't show up on most nights. With his contract coming up soon, I wouldn't be surprised if he held off on re-signing until midway through next season, seeing as he had a bad year, why not wait a little. Probably lost 500K with his play this year.
