Here's the cliff, everyone jump. EDM wins 4-2

Doughty has the best SAT and leads the league in TOI. If only he scored and was as flashy as Karlsson, he would've had 2 Norris trophies already!

Well I am as big a Karlsson fan as there is on this board and I hate when Kings fans trash him to try and prop Doughty up. He is a game changing NHL player and if there was an open draft on every player I think he goes Top 10.

But Karlsson (or any other defenseman in the NHL) is not capable of playing at the level Drew played at in the 3rd period of tonights game, that was complete domination all over the ice, from the rushes, to the goal, to the defensive play on Eberle it was a clinic.

Now we ask ourselves why doesn't Drew play like that more often? I really think the coaches take a to conservative approach in letting him play his pond hockey style that he was born to play. I guarantee you if we see that Drew Doughty most nights the Kings are not missing the playoffs.

What a goofy looking SOB.

Can he sustain that though? He's my MVP this year for the Kings. I don't think ANY player can play at that level every shift.

I think that's more of a Drew problem, than a coach problem. Drew played the third like he does the playoffs.

The problem is, that only happens in the playoffs and in big moments.

That's not a coaching issue, that is Drew Doughty raising his game to another level.

You know why the Kings are in this position? Because last post season they won so many OT games and had so many improbable comebacks. Just like time travel, the odds take what they are owed and that caught up to L.A. this season.

This is a stupid thing to believe.

Kings are in this position because they weren't good enough. Just like the Rangers haven't won anything since 1994 because they weren't good enough.

Pretty simple.

I have no problem with how Lombardi kept as much of the team together as he could. They won the Cup. Twice. 3 consecutive trips to the conference final. That's as good of a result as you can get. Rewarding that based on emotion rather than cold hard logic? I can accept it.

If they go out in the 1st round this year, or miss the playoffs completely, then perception changes. Which also makes sense. Then it can't be about emotional attachment. Then the results aren't there.

Win, and you let stuff go. Lose, and then every detail is looked at. Every missed point during the season gets remembered. Like any aspect of life.

I still subscribe to the New England Patriots style of thinking over Dean's. Dean committing all these years and money to guys based on past accomplishments rather than future results is a flawed way of thinking, and it only took one season for that to show.

When management met to discuss the Richards buyout they should have looked to the future not to the past. K17 and myself have mentioned risk/reward. What were the potential rewards in keeping MR vs. the potential risks. I think it was a no-brainer, it would be like flipping a coin and getting 1/4 odds.

IF we do indeed get in (still a HUGE if), it would be an honor to do you guys a favor and take out Anaheim. I want Byfuglien to clock Getzlaf and Perry on every god damn shift.
Perry is a dirty pos. Watching Big Buff splatter him would be amazing.

I think I'm going to root for the Peg in the West and the Caps in the East.

Drew Doughty (and Lombardi) have publicly stated that they want Doughty to win the Norris. He deserved in 2010 when Duncan Keith won it and I think he deserves it this season. He won't get it, simply because his offensive numbers are not not the same level as a guy like Erik Karlsson or PK Subban.

My beef with Karlsson, whose world class offensively, is his defensive side of the game. Tonight he was on the ice for 3 of Pittsburgh's goals in the first period and two of them he lost his man. He leads the league in giveaways, he barely plays on the penalty kill. How in the world is this guy better than Doughty? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Well, let's hope he does. That means he wants to stay hungry and he should. Just like you can't say Quick wasn't upset when he didn't win the Vezina in 2012 just because he won the Cup.

Hehe I'll find the direct quote for you.

Reporter: "Quick you missed out on the Vezina this year, that Conn Smythe make up for it ? Quick: "My name is going to be engraved on the trophy I care about this year", Quick after the 2012 Finals.

Anze Kopitar, on the loss:
I just didn’t think we had enough energy, enough jump. Obviously, this wasn’t good enough. We didn’t play our style of game. I think it was too much of a run-and-gun game. When you play a team like Edmonton, they have a lot of speedy forwards and it hurt us.

Kopitar, on whether they didn’t have enough energy because they’re on a back-to-back:
Maybe, I don’t know what the reason was. It wasn’t good enough, that’s the bottom line.

If I was a reporter, I would ask: Is something wrong Anze? You seem a little slow lately. Are you hurt? Tired? Why don't reporters ask questions like that?

Meh. I'm pretty sure he would've loved to have won that award deep inside. You can never have too many awards/trophies to win.

The Conn Smythe is a fine trophy. :naughty:

Because they aren't posting on a forum. Why not just ask him why he sucks so much?

People who think Winnipeg will lose to Colorado are crazy. They beat Minnesota & St Louis on back to back games, on the road. That is as impressive as it gets. The Kings lost to Vancouver in the SO and the Edmonton Oilers on back to back road games.

Big money and contract length should only be going to players that will be locked up in their prime production years(23 to 28).

The Cap has changed the NHL. So guys like Toffoli in the future going forward, should receive the bulk of the cap space and contract length.

Not players entering their 30's. Lombardi has to change a little, from his old school mentality.

A perfect example is Kopitar's second contract, that was the correct move, the Kings got Kopitar at a good price for all of his prime production years. Same with Doughty.

If Lombardi is smart (like I think he is) he will purchase at least two years of Toffoli's UFA window.
