The last game played at the Great Western Forum, a preseason against the Ducks, was one of the best games I've attended live.
I've been trying to wrap my mind about what I was going to say on my way back from Staples and this is the best I've got. And I don't want to be too hard on some of the guys since its game one of the preseason and learning a new system under a new coach, but honestly the guys who need to have a good season did not give me any hope tonight.
I wasn't there, but that's exactly my takeaway from listening.
On one hand, I'm sure it's easier for the young guys to program than it is for some of the vets to DEprogram; on the other, the guys you would think would come out roaring with some pride and anger game out with a wet fart and literally got scored on 18 seconds in.
On one hand, traditionally, the vets take a bit longer to get up to game speed while the guys fighting for jobs are always roaring, see: Brandon Bochenski; on the other, everyone should be fighting for jobs at this point.
On one hand, it's just one meaningless preseason split squad game; on another, at how many levels do you need to get your **** kicked back in before you address that the problem has to do with very very very basic competitiveness and habits, especially after airing all last season's dirty laundry out?
I've stuck up for some of these guys for a really long time and I still feel like last season is an aberration in the grand scheme of things, but yet, even though it's only one preseason game, they did exactly what they've always done, despite the best efforts of the youth around them. ****ing disgusting veteran play.

Amadio and Strand were a +4 in the away game.
People forget Amadio led the rookies two seasons ago in a thrashing of the VGK rookies and their starters during split squad action... the kid has loads of talent now let him play!
Am I the only one who just doesn't see it with Brickley? He's big and skates well for a big kid but I get the Jack Johnson, tools and no toolbox vibes.
I actually meant to put Mikey Anderson, not Amadio, although Amadio was +1 with a goal. He led all Kings forwards with 19:02 TOI.
Who is "all upset"?Let me get this straight...you guys are all upset that the Kings are playing just like you all had predicted they would? Makes perfect sense...
Went to the game at Staples last night. My thoughts:after Quick's complete lack of effort on the first goal I would have yanked him. He looks like he's ready to call it a career and go home-no compete. Carter-the only time I noticed Carter on the ice was when I was thinking "hey, this is a split squad game, shouldn't Carter be dominating these kids?" Carter looks ready to call it a career and go home. Kovalchuk was sitting at the end of the bench which he did often last season. That's something I do in rec leagues when I don't like my teammates, which is often. I saw no hints of an up tempo attacking system, the Kings were completely outplayed in every aspect of the game. Now for the good news-tickets were dirt cheap and will be all season long, nobody is going to pay money to see this team play. And the Kings will earn a top pick in the lottery. I was expecting more last night, instead I got a less talented version of last season.
Kupari was definetely the best player tonight imo.

I wasn’t a fan of hiring coach Todd, but so far I like what he has done with the lines and what he said after last nights game in LA.
Based on his actions and words, there seems a reasonable chance now that the old vets who are washed up will start to get healthy scratched on the regular.
