Too many BIG mistakes. Goals 2, 3 and 4 by the Jets were directly off weak ass or dumb ass plays by a Leaf. Not sure Andersen could have stopped any of them, maybe the 4th one I guess.

10 minutes of poor play cost the game in all reality. Why did they stop playing? Who knows. This team is a bit of an enigma.

I know the analytics said they played well vs VAN, I didn't think they did based on what I watched... yes they generated some changes but they were not solid. Often it is said you have to play a good one and lose before you win... so maybe this was the good loss?

No finish around the net though was killer... yes Helly made a few good saves but we also missed a number of chances that he had no part in. Kerfoot sucks around the net, so weak on his stick and never ready for the puck. Clearly Muzzin and Holl have to be paired together, what was with that pairing switch? Costed us 2 goals I think.

Disappointed with that result. Have to feel if we play like that again we get the win... and lookey here now, we get that chance in 2 nights.

My biggest concern going into this game was Matthews' health. And yea he's still not ripping it like he can but he's still making a significant impact, so I'm partly relieved. Hopefully he'll be 100% or close to it after this big break coming up.

I think for the time being it would be better to have at least 1 shooter with him, and maybe some additional help along the boards.

I'd try Hyman - Matthews - Nylander.

Freddy had a rough night. He's slowly going from generally good but ocassionally inconsistent to generally inconsistent but ocassionally good.

Freddy has been ass since the start of last season

At some point, we ARE allowed to ask for Freddy to consistently be the better goalie.

At this point he can’t seem to do it longer than 1-2 games

And this division.... doesn’t have very good goalies

Leafs played well. Helleybuck with a vintage Vezina caliber performance. Andersieve would never. Matthews would have had 4 points if Marner could raise a puck.

Defensemen make mistakes all the time.

The Jets made a lot of them on the defensive end but their goalie actually did his job. This is why blaming all of Andersen's faults on defensive mistakes doesn't make sense.

Good goalies have the ability to cover for most of those mistakes. They're not paid to just make the easy saves.

With the standards some posters set on here apparently you have to be the 2003 New Jersey Devils before you can blame Freddy.

Fred didn't make the big save (other than when it was 4-2). Good goalies will make the good save at critical times. And they will make saves off of bad defensive plays. All teams make bad defensive plays, the goalie should be able to bail them out at some points.

Annoying game really. Leafs outplayed them but the Jets managed to capitalize on a couple opportunities they got.

While I don't want to join a pile-on for Andersen, he probably should have stopped at least one of those 4 goals tonight

The Jets weren't very impressive at all and Hellebuyck stood on his head when he had to. But at the same time, the Leaf didn't look that good and Andersen wasn't really the one to blame. A lot of brainfarts interspersed into the play.

The Jets were comically bad defending tonight so it's hard to get too upset over the occasional mistake the Leafs made. Whether it's Andersen's fault or not, it's time to move on from him, hopefully Campbell can stay healthy and steal the net. Matthews doesn't try to make a 3 foot high kick save if he trusts the goalie behind him, having a goalie you can't trust perpetuates mistakes.
