I thought Bylsma did a great job the year Crosby and Malkin missed most of the year, but the Pens have woefully underachieved in the playoffs since 2009.

That has a lot do with their goaltender playing like crap since Pittsburgh won the Stanley Cup.

Vigneault makes the most sense, now. Tippett will probably stay in Phoenix. I think mediocrity is being associated with Ruff and his time in Buffalo. Messier and Gretzky are sensationalist names being brought up by desperate Rangers journalists trying to sell more papers.

Ruff gets a little overrated because he was the longest tenured coach for a long time, so people automatically assumed he must be doing something right.

But honestly, he does not have much to show for those years except one trip to the finals and a bunch of average seasons.

No, that isn't just why. He's coached some great teams. 1999, 2006/07, 2010 are a few where the Sabres finished high and made it to the post season. 1999 they had the Hull incident. Ruff is a good coach; he wore out his welcome in Sabres Land. Brought players up like Pominville, Vanek. He just is not a fit for what this team needs. Ruff isn't a bad coach by any stretch. And nowhere have I seen him be overrated

I'm shocked Scott Gordon hasn't even been looked at as an option. He was only a team USA assistant along with Torts and Wilson as the head coach that won a silver medal.

Tippett is still a great candidate. But I myself wouldn't bank on him being available. I know Maloney likes him, and he is a good coach.
