I think AV is the most obvious option. Not sure about his abilities, but making the play-offs several years in a row, making the SC finals, winning the division several times in a row. That does say something

Please don't try to tell me that winning the Northwest division is an actual accomplishment.

There is a part of me that wouldn't mind seeing this happen. Henrik gets his chance at a cup, and Ranger fans finally get a real GM.

Who am I kidding, Isiah would be running the Rangers hours after Sather was fired.

He is probably already running the Rangers.

On CBC, Elliotte Friedmann reported that Mark Messier turned the Oilers head coaching job last season.

One thing for sure. if Messier takes the job he will be in 110% to win the cup. All In...whatever it takes.

His credibility as a hockey god is so high in NY.

He coaches and fails... The legacy takes a hit

He coaches and wins the cup..... My god....

The idea of Messier a coach honestly doesn't seem that bad.

The reality of what could happen, though, does.

Has there ever been a successful coach that has come into the NHL with, quite literally, no prior coaching experience? Serious question, not rhetorical.

Would like Eakins. Don't think we should be taking a risk with Messier or Gretzky, especially when we were so close last year and this is Hanks contract year. No time to let Messier "figure it out." The guy has never coached before aside from some Jr. Rangers youth hockey teams.

The thing with Messier is I feel like it would be another Torts. I love Mess but the dude is a maniac. I feel like it would be more anger, more pressure, more benchings, more throwing guys under the bus, less Kreider. All the stuff we just fired.

Yea but its Messier.

Wow it could be the greatest thing or a total drama scene.

He is a very intense guy. But you got to think, unlike Torts, Messier would be systemically Offense oriented. Although we really don't know, but ya got to think

Good point. Wow roll the dice...

I wish we could get a great head coach that could deal with Messier assigned as the Powerplay czar.

I think it's going to be Messier and Leetch. And I'm scared to death.

Ya what to know what I think(ok probably not, but I'll tell you anyway)?

I think this whole Gretz/Messier coaching nonsense is being manufactured by the Rangers organization as a misdirection to who they are really looking for the job.

Do you actually want this to happen? I want Henrik to stay here and win a cup here. I don't want him to pull a Lebron to get a ring. That's what leaving in his prime would be. Much different from a Bourque situation. If Henrik stays and then is 37-39, we suck and have no chance, then trade him and give him a shot at a cup. Otherwise, I want him to be a career Ranger and to stay here and do his BEST to win a cup for New York.

Exactly. All that minus the successful coaching pedigree.
