also if we're bringing back some old guys how about Sean Avery as a fashion consultant for the team, approving everyone's outfits and maybe redesigning the jerseys?

Mike Gartner - sniper coach, only to be fired and replaced at the deadline by glenn anderson

Glen Sather IMO is in a win-win situation here. No way Dolan will ever fire him. If he hires his buddies Messier, Graves and Gretzky as coaches, the general fanbase won't critique the coaching staff since they were beloved players. Less media scrutiny and more milking of the 90's Rangers teams, 1994 in particular.

Torts haters, congrats. It was pretty much a sure thing that with Sather picking the next head coach - and with what was available - we were going to get a downgrade; if we were really lucky, maybe a lateral move at HC. Yet you all couldn't keep yourselves from flipping a ****.

Now Torts is fired, people look at the realistic options / what Sather is likely to do, and its not lookin' so hot anymore... I am shocked. Utterly shocked. The past two days of these threads has really just been hilarious for me.

Pretty spot on. Need to fire Torts! Oh, Messier might coach the team? No we don't want him! We want Babcock! I think Messier would be a good option tbh. He is a leader and motivator. The players would know he is a champ and know what it takes. He is a leader as well.
 
I have 100% confidence that Sather will not turn this organization into the Gong Show.
Mess is not going to be head coach. This is all noise.

And Chris Drury can be their pizza delivery man AND teach them to make delicious pizza! His dad can coach all the players' sons and daughters mite and squirt hockey teams!

And Theo Fleury can teach them how to be REAL men, and shotgun a beer or 20! Amirite!?!

Torts was a motivator too.

We need an X's and O's type of coach, not one to give emotional speeches.

Actually, how about hiring a coach who has coached on an pro or semi-pro level?

Maybe I missed it, but we "Torts haterzzz" didn't organize a protest in front of Glen Sather's house asking for Torts' head.

Agreed

Considering the core of the team (form what we know) was tuning Torts out and still managed to make it to the 2nd round I don't think this team needs a rah rah speech kind of guy. They are a close group as it is.
 
We need an HC with experience as well as power to energize. Eakins/Tipp/Boucher would be those. But I'm open to having ONE assistant that could be Mess.

Also Scott Gomez should be hired for $10 million/yr to teach goal scoring techniques, if they can pry him away from the habs

It's already been confirmed he is designing the jerseys for the outdoor games at Yankees Stadium.
 
The whole rah-rah speech thing is cool and dramatic, but it feels like that'd be more effective on youth who are impressionable.

We have grown ass men on our team. Not accusing Torts of anything but I don't think guys like Girardi, Lundqvist or Callahan would stand for being belittled or screamed at.

Callahan and Hank are the two that I'd think carry the room most, with Richards too believe it or not. They don't need that you're right. Them youngsters need to learn by example. Not by yelling

Good news I think this team is headed in the right direction. With the legendary leader Messier behind the bench, #99 as his assistant and Sean Avery-designed uniforms I think that teams will be intimidated before they step on the ice; probably they'll forfeit at least half of the games, saving the guys from a lot of wear and tear.

And people question whether Slats knows what he's doing?
