Probably because Byram is 24, and Hronek is 28.
Woof. Sorry, didn't realize how many more years Hronek had left on his contract.
Probably because Byram is 24, and Hronek is 28.
Agree with your approach - but 2 things:I like the theory, but fear Byram's concussion history not yielding a big enough discount and Hronek being to valueable of a trade chip for this to work cost wise.
I think Hronek w/o the injury history, signed to a pretty reasonable 7.25 X 6 more years, and RHD vs LHD is worth quite a bit more than Byram (even before you get into a rebuilding Vancouver being of little interest for him to sign an extension there). For Byram to net Hronek, Buffalo would be adding a signifcant piece. Krebs as a pending RFA for a team doing cap gymnastics (especiallly if they try to keep Tuch and have Benson to deal with) seems like a logical add but probably still a little light. Kesselring as a RFA might make sense for Buffalo to move on too...arbitration eligible and despite the miseerable year in Buffalo probably gets a decent pay bump based on his prior season production.
From the Hawks end of this, one of KK, EDM, Kaiser or maybe even Vlassic would have to be going out for this to make any sense from the Hawks roster management with no more waivers for KK or EDM.
Buffalo - Hronek EDM '26 NYI 2nd round pick
Chicago - Extended Byram 7 X 8.5
Vancouver - Kesselring Krebs worst of the '27 1st round picks from Hawks
Hawks get Bryam for a late 1st, mid 2nd, bottom pairing LHD prospect (if I am gambling 7 years on Bryam, I want the AAV more like 8.5 as my compromise on the injury risk).
Buffalo gets the better player/fit (handedness & cost certainty) a decent bottom pairing D option & a 2nd they don't have while moving 3 guys that are due pay raises they can't afford (if they are going to pay other guys).
Vancouver gets 2 mid 20's NHL players (and hoping for a bounce back from Kesslring) and a late 1st.
Vancouver would really need to like Krebs and believe in Kesslering bouncing back, otherwise they likely can do better for Hronek.
I don't get not thinking Buffalo would want a D back. He's kind of wanting out for excessive bodies but it would be because he wants to be a #1 minutes and PP guy. With a long term extension in place for Byram, would a Nazar trade make sense for both teams?
Obviously I love Nazar, but I look at Chicago putting him in a 3C role, and I wonder if it makes more sense to deal from a position strength. Buffalo's biggest issue is center, and Frank would instantly be their 1C.
Chicago would run Bedard, Frondell, Moore, Greene down the middle. And they still have Kantserov capable of playing center, and even more center prospects in the system like Spellacy and West for the future. Maybe even Malhotra is the pick at 4. Needless to say, they have centers.
a D lineup of:
Byram-Rinzel
Vlasic-Crevier
Kaiser-Levshunov
looks a whole lot better than what they currently have
I think I'd wait and see what's available at 4... if you're drafting Smits or Carels, then you probably don't make this trade. But Malhotra or Stenberg? This starts to make sense imo.
I have no problem upgrading Kaiser to Byram, but I wouldn't do Nazar + KaiserI don't get not thinking Buffalo would want a D back. He's kind of wanting out for excessive bodies but it would be because he wants to be a #1 minutes and PP guy.
I am not sure if they want a LD or RD, depends on if they want to keep Power on the right or think he'll be able to take another level at LD.
I think Kaiser would be a return want.
If Byram wants more...Buffalo's return is likely less.Agree with your approach - but 2 things:
1) Doubt Byram signs that deal.
2) Doubt Buffalo would be good with Byram, Krebs, & Kesselring for Hronek & a mid 2nd round DP.
It definitely makes sense if you believe in Byram and can replace Nazar with Malhotra in the draft...Byram more or less equals Carels at 4 but skipping the development curve...That said maybe the appropriate return is closer to what Noah Dobson got which would be EDM + FLA 1sts + mid tier player like Korchinski or one of the forward prospects that will be a 40 point guy...Boisvert? They might want Moore if they want a F and its not NazarWith a long term extension in place for Byram, would a Nazar trade make sense for both teams?

Nazar's $6,599,991 cap hit has to be looking very appealing if you're Dallas...Just saw the report that the expected ask from the Robertson camp is $14mil per year...yeah there is no way Dallas can do that. They are going to have to trade him if he will not budge.
Just wonder if Dallas wants more finished product prospects than picks, etc. since they are in win now.Just saw the report that the expected ask from the Robertson camp is $14mil per year...yeah there is no way Dallas can do that. They are going to have to trade him if he will not budge.
Yeah and Robertsons demand looks not so appealing.Nazar's $6,599,991 cap hit has to be looking very appealing if you're Dallas...
Hawks have all the cap space in the worldYeah and Robertsons demand looks not so appealing.
For next yearHawks have all the cap space in the world
it's of little concern
I would imagine so, which makes us not the best fit. Guys like Moore and or Rinzel/Crevier dont really help them a ton right away. No point in moving Nazar he has been the second best forward we have. Dallas trades their picks like candy so them getting first rounders isnt what they likely want. I dont know what it would take to land him but I am not sure we have the pieces they are looking for.Just wonder if Dallas wants more finished product prospects than picks, etc. since they are in win now.
Ok I like this4 time champ!
He was Oiler #7 defender in 87 but never played in playoff game but did play 44 regular season games (All after call up midway thru season) with 41 games the needed # to have name on cup automatically

He is in the official 87 champion team photo as well
And the Johnson sucker punch ending his career was one of the most vile and disgusting acts in sports I have ever seen. That POS should have been thrown out of league instead of having a decade+ NHL career
I dont know why we would move Nazar with so many unknowns right now. It would almost feel like 1 step forward then 1 step back. Just creates another hole..Dallas would surely want him, but I dont think KD would have interest in moving him.Nazar's $6,599,991 cap hit has to be looking very appealing if you're Dallas...
Why? Because Robertson is betterI dont know why we would move Nazar with so many unknowns right now. It would almost feel like 1 step forward then 1 step back. Just creates another hole..Dallas would surely want him, but I dont think KD would have interest in moving him.
To open room for our prospects lolI dont know why we would move Nazar with so many unknowns right now. It would almost feel like 1 step forward then 1 step back. Just creates another hole..Dallas would surely want him, but I dont think KD would have interest in moving him.
Love Frankie but a 100 pt forward next to 98 would be very nice right now.I dont know why we would move Nazar with so many unknowns right now. Of course he is better but I dont think KD signed Nazar to that deal to just dump him one year later. He is part of the young core, picks and prospects not in the NHL are what the Hawks should be looking to move not the few actual NHLers we have right now. Why? Because Robertson is better
Obviously not, but Robertson becoming available isn't the type of thing you plan forOf course he is better but I dont think KD signed Nazar to that deal to just dump him one year later. Agreed but we also know selling Nazar right now is not going to get us his true value. He isnt just a 40-50 point player and Dallas would want Nazar + + and I think Nazar has 70-80 point upside next year if not paired with corpses and stays healthy.Obviously not, but Robertson becoming available isn't the type of thing you plan for
Am I missing the joke here, it would be a 1 v1 swap on actual NHL forwards...To open room for our prospects lol
