Trade, offer sheet or not go after Robertson

Knies for 4th overall
Multiple sources like Seravalli, Friedman and Kypreos are saying they expect the Hawks to make a big splash either at the draft or over the summer. We all know about KD and Knies, but seems like Jason Robertson could be their top target. There are numerous links out there for those who want to read it.

I dont like the idea of a trade and sign for JRob because I would rather just offer sheet him (though our 27 would have to be the pick we surrender I believe)...

Where there is smoke there tends to be fire & I think KD understands he cant have another bottom feeding year for Bedard and Knight. This doesnt mean the rebuild is over, just means whatever they do it is addressing a major need to help our young players...

What say y'all...

I think 12.5 would translate to a 4x 1st OS compensation. Thats really risky, but partially offset by having 2 extra 1st next year.

I'd rather do a straight up trade using Rantanen valuation for the deal. Could theoretically go EDM 1st, FLA 1st and one of Lardis/Moore/Greene as the Stankhoven asset in the deal. Or those picks with Vanacker/pridham if those picks likely higher than DAL picks give them a little more value.

It is a price to pay, but I like how the picks are spaced out vs a straight up trade that would cost us much more immediately..

All of those 4 picks will be 32nd overall

I think the Laffs will still be in win now mode, next season. If they trade Knies, it will be in a package for a top pairing Dman, not prospects or picks. Robertson is interesting, but I think they move others to resign him.

Our 2027 1st should be on table

There is no reason it should not be trade chip especially with Hawks having Panthers + Oilers picks potentially as well to soften blow

Hawks are adding a full year of Frondell, Kantserov to team and another year of young kids who should show improvement and then whatever impact player they would give up 2027 1st for

If your expectation is Hawks will not improve and again be dreadful than reality is we should pull plug on Davidson and his coaching staff

Such a silly argument. We are waiting for prospects to develop, so if they aren't developed by next year we should can the GM? lol Reality is, we probably are still a bottom 7 team next year, and I have zero interest in trading that high of a pick for anyone short of a dominant NHL player. We also shouldn't need to deal that pick to get the players mentioned, we have many more other assets that other teams cant match,

Oops, I didn’t see this thread up and rolling. Posted this in the roster thread.

Would you put the top-four pick on the table for Robertson?

If you take either of the wingers you’re probably hoping they eventually become as impactful as Robertson, but you’re waiting years for them to maybe reach that level. Robertson steps in next year to score 40 goals, and is still young enough to likely stay in his prime through his next contract.

For him I would.

Make the 2027 1st top 8 protected and I'm cool with that being a piece.

2027 top 8 protected 1st
2027 Florida 1st
2026 37th oa
Vaclav Nestrasil

^ That package would be more tempting than 4 1st's from a contender imo.

Other Assets I'd consider;

Oliver Moore
EDM 1st 2027
34th oa 2026
45th oa 2026
Kaiser
Pridham
Vanacker

We have the assets to get one of those elite wingers

Nope - I would rather have young cost-controlled players and the Hawks are years away from win-now mode.
Robertson is young enough where he’s part of a core that wins years from now. Also, what does the three years of a cost-controlled Stenberg get you that Robertson doesn’t?

The cost-controlled part is significantly more valuable to Dallas than it is to the Hawks at this point. If Stenberg hits the way the hawks need him to, his next contract will cost more than Robertson’s.

Without thinking too deeply into it, it seems like a possible win-win for both franchises.

Nil might be a tougher negotiator than KD is used to. And not sure he would be comfy trading away so much of the rebuild. Depends on where the front office sits on where they think the rebuild is at.
