Confirmed with Link: Hawks aquire Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway for 4th overall, 45th overall, and Crevier

And Byram will never have even a fraction of Keith's defensive game and yet people are comparing him to Keith

And outside of skating what exactly is outstanding about Byram?
People aren’t seriously comparing him to Keith, it’s clearly being intentionally hyperbolic. You’re just grasping onto any strawman you can to keep your thing going.

He’s going to be closer to a 1 than a 4 though.

Keith at 24 wasnt even the Duncan Keith that he would become. Wasnt even a first rounder. There were signs but it isnt about directly comparing the two players it is about making it clear that many of these guys arent finished products at this age especially at defense.

A few things we’ve learned since this trade went down.

1. Byram’s value was high and several teams really wanted him
2. Executives believe this draft is weaker than it appears outside of the top two
3. Byram actually wants to be in Chicago, which is nice to hear after all the whining over Brady not wanting to consider Chicago

Go ahead and look at the available free agents on defense. Tell me what player you would want more than Byram? Tell me one player there that fits with this core long term? Many of those guys are still going to sign big deals at 34 years plus...there was NOTHING available anywhere remotely close to Byram on the market in terms of both now and next few years. Free agency has dried up, this is now how you have to acquire top young pieces.

The more I let this sit, I'm fine with it.

1. Byram is an immediate help to our blue line. The D is better because of this trade.
2. Byram is more of a guarantee than whatever D was there at 4, whether it is Reid, Carels, or Smits.
3. Byram fits the age profile of our club, so that is fantastic.
4. Crevier and the 2nd will ultimately be nothing.
5. Greenway might not be a lot, but is actually quite shitty to play against. He was a menace when he was with the Wild. I think (if he is healthy) he can be quite effective.

Now Kyle has to see what we have with the forward group and either let them grow, or spend along the way and find immediate help again.

One thing is very clear, they are turning the corner on the rebuild. They aren't rushing with out-of-age players or anything like that, but they've signaled that they aren't going to be patient for many more seasons.

4 and 5 are pretty much even, so Davidson tipped the scales with Crevier. Meh, do what you have to do. It makes more sense given the context.
It feels like in NFL draft where a player 'falls' but reality is the execs like the player less than the public...maybe thats the D class in general this year if NYR & SJ were willing to give up 5 & 9 respectively

He was in the mix with Hossa, if he was a #1 winger, he would have been clear #1 winger.
yeah i mean hockey 101 tells us the way coaches divide up 12 forwards is the exact same process as dividing up 6 D-man

i get i am new here but please don't act like i am stupid

There is a defender on market in Carolina who doesn't have Byram concussion history, Is far more talented and wont be getting absurd contract extension that Byram will

Hawks should have targeted him

Oh and he fits age group and need at LD

Greenway only has 1 year left on his contract, not that big of a deal.
the issue with it is not the length of his contact, it's that davidson did the sabres a favor by taking his salary off their hands (freeing up more money to spend on acquiring someone else OR bringing back tuch)... and for that favor somehow the sabres still got him to give up a roster D-man and the 45th pick... the way it usually works when a team helps by taking unwanted salary is the other team throws in a sweetener like a 2nd round pick

Davidson track record with cap dumps is phenomenal

Freidman is saying there were three competing offers on the table with top 10 picks. Davidson hit the right combo of taking money and giving up depth pieces to win.

Why do you assume he was out there just tossing favors in willy nilly?

So, (4) total offers? Well, we know the Sharks offered (2) 1st rders and a player. I wonder what the other (2) offers were...

Someone tell Bedard to wait until he’s 25 for the 4th this year to have an impact let’s see how well that will go, this rebuild resolves around Connor whether you like it or not.
There are 4 RFA years left for Bedard. Assume he gets trade protection on any UFA years he signs, so July 1, 2030 that activates.

Reid, if that's the best D in the draft, he wasn't amazing in the OHL despite his late bday. So, if he needs 2 NCAA years, and burns an elc year, his elc ends when Bedard is done his RFA years. No guarantee that after 2 full NHL seasons, he'd be better than Bryam.

Timeline wise, '29 for sure they need to make PO. '28, ideally like to but if they are within a few points, that is probably acceptable. '27 need to move up the standings like SJ did this past year.

You have to outbid your competitors.

If you're talking about Ghost, he doesn't have nearly as good an all-around game as Byram. Now you're just throwing shit against the wall hoping something will stick.

get Chicago and SJ being interested but why were the Rangers...they need to start over...must be completely out on the D group available
