the toi between the two were nearly identical...again people are anchored to what buffalo paid for him and the pick number, attach a player to it (likely reid or carels) and its probable they traded the same type of player away for the now...if these defensemen were cant miss players SJ isnt going Stenberg with what they got on defense

I love Bo Byram and am super happy we got him. He is easily the most accomplished Defenseman on the roster and will fit in like a glove. I am upset at the value they gave up to get him, the contract that is not signed upon completion of this deal, and the fact they gave up major capital for a Defenseman instead of addressing Bedard's wing with a competent veteran, and the absolute waste of cap and roster space for Jordan Greenway. Draft hasn't happened and FA hasn't started so there is still time to make moves, but 2 contracts will have KD over a barrel quickly. There had better be bigger plans or this move is a major set back.

it's not 'a little overpay' - it's the dynamics around it. Being forced to include Crevier (the only D on this team with a shot) and take on the $4M cap dump of a plug like Greenway, but more importantly, the contract situation. As we all know, Byram is a UFA after this year. He and his agent have the Hawks by the short hairs so the Hawks will likely be paying him as the top D man in the league when it's not proven that he can TRULY be the #1D on a team. That's the issue.
ah, but you see, i personally believe he will be a 1D, so there is actually no issue at all. the only reason you think there is an issue because you are overvaluing the notoriously awful 4th overall draft pick.
I dont see this as shifting gears on them at all. It's getting them help so they dont have to be in high pressure situations while they are still very raw. No reason we can't have multiple high level Dmen on this team. I dont think it adds any years at all.
Uh, they started the year with Rinzel on the first pair and gave Lev way too much to handle. They just locked out Rinzel and Lev from most of the best offensive shifts and pp1 time for the foreseeable future.

Drafting and developing them. They started with them in that position and realized it was too much for them so they backed off. They didn't lock them out of anything, one of them could easily start beside Byram to start the year, or at some point throughout the year and into the future.
I highly doubt KD would make this trade without an extension already in place.
What was originally said was, he doesn't have to be Keith because the price it took to acquire him wasn't anything close to what it would take to acquire a Keith.
