He should request a trade if he hasn't already. I'm usually one who takes a cautious approach to criticizing the team over how they handle players (since there's a lot we don't know), but what they're doing to Trivigno is criminal.
When I heard the scratches before the game I thought what nyr2k2 eventually posted but then said to myself, you're just being juvenile. There has to be some reason why you would scratch Trivigno.
But when I read nyr2k2's post I realized that the scratch is inexplicable. Especially because his line was the best in Sunday's loss and he is one of the best offensive drivers on a team that has trouble scoring. Even on Sunday night he was on the fourth line. And I'm not sure he's ever played on the power play.
Let's not stop with Trivigno. Brandon Scanlin was scratched for the 7th time in the last 9 games. And according to Alex Thomas he's been a healthy scratch.
These two guys were at the top of last season's NCAA free agent class and the Rangers were lucky to sign them. And they are sitting on the bench so the team can play Turner Elson and Tim Gettinger up front and Adam Clendening with his -17 +/- (well someone had to replace Andy Welinski and his -16 +/-) and Libor Hajek whose failed several opportunities with the Rangers.
nyr2k2 said he usually takes a cautious approach to criticizing how a team handles its players. That's a fair comment. But this is the third year that I have watched this coach and I see the same thing every year. Over reliance on veterans who for the most part are not very good and are unlikely to ever play with the Rangers. You might say it's worth it because you want the team to have success. But it's not having success. An epic collapse last year. And if the team makes the expanded playoff this year it will barely make it.
The Pack are suddenly eight points behind fourth place Springfield and six points behind fifth place Lehigh Valley. The only chance the Pack have to sneak into the final playoff spot is to catch Bridgeport, which fortunately got crushed tonight by Charlotte and are only two points ahead of the Pack although they currently have the tie breaker over the Pack.
It's hard for me to imagine how Chris Drury and Ryan Martin think the way things are going in Hartford is a good way to develop young players.
