Pack win 3-1 over Providence.
Goals by Jones, Rempe and an empty netter by Cuylle.
Dylan Garand in Net.
Watched this. Observations from Ranger Ric, Eco's Bones and NYR2K2 continue to be spot on. A few specifics from today's game.
1. Overall, the whole team looked quite good. Outclassed the P-Bruins most of the game. As a result, everyone looked good pretty much.
2. Really liked Cuylle's game in this one. Very effective and rarely makes the wrong decision. He seemed, in this one, to be a bit more effective than in previous games. And got better as game went on. Deserved the empty netter as he probably deserved to get one earlier in the game. Shoutout to Rydahl who broke his stick blocking a pass that led to Cuylle's empty netter. I believe I'm seeing some progression from the beginning of the year. Hopefully he keeps getting better and forces his way up at some point. The thing with Cuylle is, he's got better hands and is a better passer than most 4th line plugs. The question will be if he has the motor/wheels to apply his skills at the next level. But he plays a sturdy game. If he keeps developing, I think he could become a homegrown Goodrow.
3. Garand was decent in this one. He's got potential. But I think it's going to take some legit time. I don't think he should be anywhere else next year but back in HFD.
4. Robertson is playing a simpler game out there. I think he's making less egregious mistakes. He's pinching less. He still is getting some offensive looks. Had some glorious chances in this game but his game is not really going to be terribly offensive at the next level. He made some very good outlet passes today and for me, that's the 2nd most important part of his game to solidify. But I think he's playing a bit more within himself and it's looking better. His game hasn't changed a ton, but I do think he's become a bit more mindful not to force it when pinching and joining the rush.
5. Scanlin. He's def in that Girardi mold. I worry about his wheels/skating at the next level but his strength is he really knows his game. He doesn't go overboard with trying to make himself noticeable offensively,. And yet this game was a great example of how he still ended up on the scoresheet. He made a nice little play to help the team enter the zone on Rempe's goal and ended up with the secondary assist (at least he should have gotten even if he wasn't credited).
6. Rempe got on the scoresheet again. I mean, I like his game. He is effective at this level. But I still see a long term project only because the skating is rough and I wonder about his balance at the nexxt level. But does NOT have stone hands, at least at this level.
7. Bobby T. He got less ice time as the game went on because of penalties. (he's not on PP). But I think he continues to make plays and is maybe the most courageous, aggressive of the all the forwards. Guy isn't afraid to get to the middle. And is pretty good for a small guy on the boards. And I'd argue he's one of the best skaters upfront for Hartford. I'd like to see him get more ice time. I think he does earn it. Jury is still out on whether he's another Greco or Fritz or if he's got NHL upside. He needs a bigger role at some point to get a better read on his potential. I understand there's a pecking order, but I'd like to see it. Regardless, I'm now a huge fan of his.
8. I have nothing against Andy Welinski or Zach Guttiari. And I get why they've got fairly big roles with the team but I would prefer to see what we have in Hunter Skinner at some point. I'm just not sure the org feels the same way.
Ok, that's way too many words for not that much of an update. But the bigger point is perhaps that the Wolf Pack are looking much better.
