A guy that hasn't played in the NHL full time since 18-19 season. He is slow and can't skate. They should have called up Belzile if they wanted a vet called up.
The Rangers need a center to replace Barclay G. Nash is the obvious candidate from Hartford. He fits in better as a fourth liner than Belzile. He's played well for Hartford. Not arguing he is a better player than Belzile just a better fit for what the Rangers need right now.

Edstrom should have been called up then.

Sure lets have fun with numbers and words
Before last season Nash only had 17 AHL games since summer'13
Played 75% of CBJs games in '20 season then all 10 Stanley Cuo playoff games
The next year appeared in 2/3 of their games
49 NHL games in '22 then 8 playoff games for TB and John Cooper

Not saying he isnt just a 4A depth vet now, but it really isnt a slam dunk dumb decision, and i trust FO and staff to be doing what they genuinely think is best for the team and situation, and to use him effectively

Belzile is less proven, and kinda cool he gets this return to Laval where he established his career

Don't remember who but someone said Berard reminds them of Callahan. There are some similarities but Berard is a little smaller and not as strong as a young Callahan was. Also Ryan hit everything that moved. He'd regularly rack up 5/6 hits a game and Ryan also became a penalty kill monster for us. That's a lot of extras to put on a first year pro's plate. Berard buzzes around really well and is kind of a pest. He scores a lot from in close. He's not a perimeter player and that is a good thing. He's adjusted well to the AHL. He's involved and he's getting production. Those two things don't always happen.
I see Brendan Gallagher in his game.

he makes 70k more than Nash.

Thats why he was the choice.
Does that matter? I really don't get the LTIR rules. I got that we don't recoup cap for injured players but I thought we could use that cap to pay for players so like Chytil's cap can be applied to the temporary replacements. Although I also read that if he's out for the whole regular season we end up getting cap back? I don't know how any of it works.

Berard has talked about modeling his game after Brad Marchand. All that said both Gallagher and Marchand play with a lot of nastiness and snarl which so far I haven't seen a lot of out of Berard. In other ways he's kind of like them and maybe that kind of angry kind of game will come in time.

I'd say he's more Hagelin in that he is a PIA with his speed and elusiveness than Marchand.

Assume the following:

Cap: 100 mil
Days in season: 100
Chytil cap hit: 5 mil
Amount we are spending: 99 mil

Since there are 100 days in the season, we are able to spend 1 mil per day, but we are only spending 990k per day. Therefore, we are saving 10k per day.

We go through half the season like this (50 days) and accrue 500k in cap space. Then Chytil is placed on LTIR. 99 mil (how much we are spending) + 5 mil (Chytil's cap hit) becomes our new cap ceiling. So we can spend up to 104 mil.

We call up a player making 1 mil. We are now spending 100 mil. We are no longer accruing cap space. We continue that way for the rest of the year. We still only have 500k accrued.

So yes, 70k can make a difference. The numbers get very complicated when you factor in so many different transactions and using LTIR.

Rewound just to be sure. That should have been a penalty on the Laval goalie. He went back in the paint with no other player near him and shoulders the net off the mooring to stop play.

Belzile with the goal, Othmann with the assist. I can see why he was signed on July 1. He's an underrated player. I wonder why he didn't make the Rangers. Had decent stats when he played for the Habs last season

Down 3-1. Pull Domingue already. He is having a bad night

Second time in the first 11 minutes that Dobes knocks the net off its mooring when he is in trouble.
This is the worst officiating I’ve witnessed since the last time I watched an NHL game!

Hartford down 3-1 after 1. some bad officiating but a couple of poor defensive plays by hartford.

After Trivigno is hit hard into the boards Mackay checks the Laval player and gets a penalty. During the power play there is a a scrum behind the Hartford net and Scanlin called for cross checking. Perhaps I missed something but it looked to me like the sort of hitting you see every time there is a scrum behind the net. According to Alex Thomas Smith was screaming at the ref. so 5-3 and Robertson leaves the front of the net to go towards the side boards leaving two men open in front for a score. Another head scratcher by Robertson. Then on the 5-4 Level scores again. Laval's defense is terrible and gives up a 2-0 on a Pack power play with Belzile scoring on his former team. But as the Pack look like they are steadying the play Laval breaks in and Berard and Sykora both go to check the same player leaving anther Laval player in 30 feet out in the middle of the ice. Not sure I can fault Domingue for any of the goals.

Plenty of time to right the ship as Laval is at or near the bottom of the league in defense.

Second penalty was straight garbage. It was standard jostling behind the net, someone fell and the ref called it. Tough call.
