Greg Moore should be the replacement. Former head coach for the Chicago Steel, coached the Marlies for 3+ years, and is now back with the u17s for the USNTDP.

Sucks to lose Knoblauch at this point, but happy that he’s getting the opportunity.
dunno if Drury would 'steal' from NTDP

some maybe not unrealistic names
Hynes is job-less and was at BU w Drury
Woodcroft 8^)
Paul Mara had been coaching pro women for ~ 5 years, per @Ranger Ric he stepped in with Pack for Smith last weekend
Tony Granato
Steve McCarthy will be in building tonight w CBJ as AC, had been projected as a future HC, his tenure at CBJ preceded the current guy (and Babcock)
Jason Payne is HC at ECHL affiliate Cincy, has also been a rising coach to watch

added: Brad Larsen who coached CBJ last few years

I don't think it's that big of a deal for Hartford. Steve Smith has been an AC for Edmonton, Buffalo, and Carolina. Long NHL career. He's 60. He can step in no problem and coach that bunch. Knoblauch was going to leave eventually.

I do think they'll eventually pull someone from USA Hockey to take the job longer term, but they may not fill it this season.

Oil went out and found a coach with a McDavid connection
maybe pack seek a coach with a Trivigno connection 8^)

I’m curious if one of the assistants on the NY bench want that job but Drury doesn’t want to mess with chemistry and the big club right now. That would see more of an interim coach for this season who would have some instruction from NY. A guy like Muse or Peca May like the opportunity to be HC in Hartford thinking that in 2-3 years it may be a nice feather in their cap for a possible opening in NY…

Great for KK and it shows that after a rough first couple seasons he has developed a nice team and system in Hartford, at least that’s what the record over the past couple of years indicates.
It’s quite ham fisted on Edmonton’s part. They make a mess the rangers have to clean up because they don’t have their ducks in a row. But anyhow, all in all, good for KK.

Hey guys Oiler fan in peace. Just wanted some information on Knoblauch. It seems like you guys are pretty high on him and wanted him to be the Rangers head coach this season. So can you guys give an insight on him (coaching style, why everyone in New York is high on him, etc)?

I wasn't very high on him, and while there was a healthy amount of speculation about him getting a chance to coach the Rangers, I don't believe that was really in the cards. He did a decent job in Hartford but IMO it was nothing special. They were well on their way to missing the playoffs for the third time in his three seasons (or four in four? I can't remember) last year before they added some veteran players through trades or demotions from the Rangers and caught fire the last month. I mean credit to him for keeping them together, but they were literally one bad weekend away from missing out again.

The Rangers haven't really had many high-end guys go to Hartford in recent years--Kakko, Lafreniere, K. Miller, etc. skipped it so it's hard to know how he'll handle top young talent. Will Cuylle did well last season for sure, but it's been a mixed bag with the other guys like Zac Jones, Matt Robertson, Lauri Pajuniemi, Tim Gettinger, Nils Lundkvist, and on and on.

He did a good job IMO incorporating the youth into the lineup last season after relying more heavily on the veterans the first two years. Last year, I didn't have any complaints with his roster decisions. On ice, the team often lacked any kind of identity and really struggled badly at times defensively and on special teams (across his tenure). A few years ago, they looked good out of the gate, but that was really just because of Shesterkin, and as soon as he left the team fell apart. I think that was under KK but I'm not sure.

This year is the most talented Hartford team we've seen in a while and they were off to a good start.

I know Knoblauch is generally highly regarded but I thought he did a pretty mediocre job in Hartford. I was adamantly opposed to any of the talk about him getting the Rangers job. I'm disappointed to see him go now but really only because it's a disruption to Hartford. Bigger picture, I'm not really moved one way or another.

EDIT: To be clear this isn't sour grapes and I wish the guy well, I had nothing against him personally and he seemed like a good guy. I've just never been a fan, really. I honestly would have thought our two ACs would have been candidates before Knoblauch.

Same he got overrated because we blew out a team when Quinn was out.
