Top speed is better.

He takes forever to get there.
I don't think the acceleration is quite that bad, but I do think the top end is fine. He had that play, maybe it was preseason, where he stole the puck and center ice and beat two guys back quite easily for the goal, IIRC. I've seen the speed. It's not great but it's certainly usable.

Stole it from Taylor Hall, no less.

We briefly touched on it in the offseason, but I think that with the way Lias should play the game at this level, "strong skating" for him will be encapsulated more by balance and strength along the boards. He'll need to add a little more explosiveness than we've seen, but maneuvering with guys along the boards and in front of the net should be his bread and butter if he's going to find success.

I've said before, if Lias is moving and stays moving, even at a glide, he's a perfectly fine skater. He absolutely cannot get off the blocks from a standstill and churns his legs like he's swimming and barely moves and it's weird.

Yeah, this one:

He also showed off some speed on this play too:

So there's definitely some ability there, even if he's only shown it inconsistently.

I also think it's also noteworthy that he finished 22nd in "Peak Power Output" at the combine, ahead of Heskanen, for example. IIRC, Clark said his combine results were very good. Andersson also has a rep as a hard worker and definitely made an effort to improve his skating this summer. If he has the physical talent to be a good skater and the willingness to work at it hard, it seems to me like there should be a pretty good chance that he'll turn into a good skater in time.

Yeah I mean we had a dozen people here and hundreds more across the board that were adamant that Tavares' skating would prevent him from being elite. Then it got better and he became a superstar. Now Tavares obviously has other skills that Andersson doesn't, but the point is you can still improve your skating in your early-twenties.

Yeah, Brayden Point is another example. He slipped to the 3rd round because people thought he couldn't skate and now he's one of the fastest skaters in the league.

Not exactly true. It takes him a long time to start moving. I think it’s more about reaction time. This goalie twitch if you will, so to me it more of an area that would be easier to improve with more experience, maturity and proper training.

Foot speed is way less important than thinking speed. Don’t need to be fast if you leave early. If course you need foot speed sometimes but I’d take the guy thinks the game fast over the opposite every type time. Not saying I have an opinion on whether Lias is an elite thinker. Just saying speed isn’t necessarily king.

Georgiev has been outplayed by both Tokarski and Mazanec. I know he's young and talented but his performances have been somewhat underwhelming at both levels this year.

He played pretty poorly last season until we signed Mazanec out of Europe IIRC
Yeah he was off to a bad start. Mazanec came in and played pretty well. Then Mazanec got hurt and Georgiev played really well, parlayed that into a call up, and played really well in the NHL. That's how I remember it anyway.

Hopefully he can step it up.

The idea that he's got any trade value at this point is almost comical.
Yeah I mean, goalies have weird, usually low value. Then, he's a backup. Then, he has really only been good for a few dozen games split between two levels. I feel like he'd be a throw-in. Not that I want to move him or anything.

The Pack trail 3-1, halfway home. Our goal was Fogarty from Hajek and Andersson. Georgiev has stopped 14/17.

Georgiev seems to play a lot better for us this year than he does for the Wolfpack......but 8 shots on goal after two periods does not cut it. You're not going to win games with so few shots.

After giving up the fourth goal, Georgiev got the hook. Stopped 15/19 in 33:26. Mazanec stopped the final 11 before the ENG.

Pack lost 5-2. Season is slipping away.

I've only seen two games live this year. For those of you who have seen more games, what do you think is the problem? I understand the concerns with Gernander and some past teams have been without talent but this team seems like it should be doing better. Last place in the division and last in goals allowed. Something is wrong.

This team is so bad...again.

1 playoff appearance in the last 6 years, soon to be 7. A serious issue is going on down there. The team should be competitive for the top prospects to develop in a better environment.

It seems to me that the biggest "problem" is that Hartford has a very young roster. It takes time for a first (and 2nd) year prospect to get used to professional hockey--for most of them it's the first time they are playing against men. The KHL (and the SHL) may be better, but AHL hockey is nothing to sneeze at either. The best teams that Hartford had was full of veterans--I don't even remember if they had any true prospects.
