SECOND PERIOD

Massive save on Mess. Shot by Holland, rebound, Mess grabs it by going smartly to the net, but an amazing save by the Bruins goalie.

Lindgren with a good clear.

SCORE: Lindgren tries to hip check again and badly fails, allowing the forward to skate right past him to create a 2 on 1. A little too much confidence by Lindgren.

SCORE: Brick with a good rush up the ice, throws it to the center of the ice in front of the net, the puck skates through a few feet to find Gilmour who buries it.

Bigras looks like a good AHLer, not so much an NHLer because he doesn't make those small plays nobody notices.

SCORE: Gilmour with a good, smooth rush almost coast to coast, behind the opposing net, to the side of it, pass to Vinni with a perfectly placed bullet of a shot. He needs to shoot more. He'd have more points if he wasn't so unselfish. Gettinger with the other assist. 3-2.

OG with a lazy turnover.

Lias with a similar lazy turnover in the same spot less than a minute later. Something in the gatorade, I guess.

Fontaine with a good rush, but nobody was there to help him on offense.

Gropp, Hajek with good defensive plays.

I don't know, but it seems like Mess could probably hold up in the NHL. He still has a lot to learn, so probably better off being a top player in Hartford than 9 minutes of 4th line minutes in the NHL. If he were a North American, I'd be pretty confident he'll be an NHLer, but if he doesn't crack the top-9, he may prefer KHL/SHL over the NHL's 4th line. That said, he may well be a lot better in a year or two than a fourth liner, we'll see. But honestly, he should be at least a 4th line quality NHL player, whether he chooses to stay in the U.S. or not. Probably not top-6 though.

Gropp having a solid game. He looks petty good with Nieves.

Lias with a turnover on the PP. Not loving his game today so far.

Holland is good offensively at this level, always visible every game.

Lindgren continues to look confident.

Hajek with a couple good defensive plays with his stick. His defensive stick is really good, but he needs to not over-rely on it.

OG tries stickhandling through opponents. It goes how you'd expect it to go.

Day looks better this game, but I still think he belongs in the ECHL this season. He has a ton to learn about the pro game.

Tokarsky with a strong save.

Lias almost steals the puck for a breakaway, but almost doesn't count.

Gettinger might be a player some day. He's younger than Fontaine and much younger than Fogarty, but probably a better player already or at a minimum equivalent. His 4 game call up wasn't meant to be a sign of his readiness, but rather a sign that the Rangers believe he may one day be a player for them and they're willing to invest the time of NHL coaches to show him the ropes at the top level.

Holland with a good rush, pass to Beleskey, but he missed.

Gilmour is a disaster. They need to stop pretending he's a defenseman.

Only way Gilmour could work out properly is to reactivate Jeff Beukeboom and put them together...

Offensively as a Dman, Gilmour is easily top 3 in the AHL... no doubt. He needs an anchor on defense though.

THIRD PERIOD

Hajek has a it of a nasty streak, but new hockey is not great for it. Penalty called.

Gettinger steals the puck on a PK and shoots from up close, but stopped. Good steal, but not a great shot. He won't be a top 6 player, but who knows, he has a reasonable shot at being a third liner. I want to see how much progress he makes next year. He's someone who in his prime could be anywhere from a middle-6 AHLer to an NHL third liner, depending on how much progress he shows.

Fogarty with a good PK clear.

Gilmour slips, but the refs are legally blind in the AHL and give the Pack a PP.

Fontains tries to stickhandle, looks out of control doing it.

Mess again stopped from up close.

Holland could be called up and not fall on his face, but I just don't see how he sticks on a good NHL team long-term.

SCORE: Gilmour again turns over the puck right near Tokarsky, pass, shot, goal. Carey with a hat trick. Gilmour is an abomination.

Lindgren and Hajek are playing together now. Hope it's just for this shift because that's just dumb. Both are LD, both are defense-first, neither is able to trasport the puck, at least not yet.

Fontaine with a very responsible defensive move while others went reckless.

Beleskey looks lost in positioning on defense (one play, not the whole game).

Hajek is good at board battles.

Tokarsky is pulled with 2:38 to go.

Almost an ENG... and a half a minute later there's an empty netter.

Hajek displays surprising ability to stickhandle. He didn't even attempt anything close to that before Christmas.

Game over.

Turning over the puck half the time you rush it does not qualify as good offense in my book. He's just brutal. I hate his game, hope they don't qualify him and get someone else.

2019-01-22Marek Mazanec (G)HartfordADDReturned on loan from NY Rangers (NHL)
2019-01-22Dustin Tokarski (G)HartfordDELRecalled from loan by NY Rangers (NHL)
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Now it's Tokarski's turn to collect some NHL paychecks while Mazanec gets some games in Hartford.
It’s a nothing move in the scheme of things for us, but it’s definitely a quality move by the organization

Pack down 4-3, mid second. All goals in the first.

O'Gara from Day and Meskanen
Andersson from Fogarty and Gropp
Gilmour from St. Amant and Fontaine

The point was Day's first in the AHL. Georgiev is starting and has stopped 17/21 so far.

Fogarty equalized.

Pack are not in playoff position. A regulation win pulls them within 4 points of Springfield with a game in hand. Gotta win the division games.

How's lias playing?

He hasn't been as good since getting sent back, in my opinion. Getting less PP time and playing with Bobby Butler haven't helped, but his effort level hasn't been where it was before and that's normally such a big part of his game. He's far from the first prospect to go through something like that after getting demoted, so I don't think it's a big deal, but he hasn't been great since going back down.

I wouldn't be concerned too much if I was a Rangers fan. First off, he started off playing really well this season in the AHL. When he got called up, he looked fine he just wasn't putting up great numbers.

He's young, he's only 20. He's got size, he can skate. If I'm a Ranger fan I wouldn't worry about him.

I'm not worried at this point.

Guys like Rackell(39 points in first 90 games) and Meier(42 points in first 115 games) have been amazing since turning 21.

I see lots of similarities, Ithink Lias is on the same path.

That's a hot take around here

He's not a great skater, but I think the criticism is severely exaggerated. When I see people say "Lias can't skate" I really don't know how that makes sense
I don't know man...I definitely don't think he's molasses slow...but he's certainly no better than stepan even at his best. That's not a great place to start

Lias is not a speed burner by any means but I think his skating being a great hindrance is overrated. The bigger concern to me is the speed of reading the game and executing plays.

It didn't stop Stepan from having a good career. We will see what happens, and he just turned 20 a few months ago. I am not really ready to throw in the towel yet and call him a bust. That's the thing I have a problem with. Players develop far beyond their 20th birthday.
