SECOND PERIOD
Massive save on Mess. Shot by Holland, rebound, Mess grabs it by going smartly to the net, but an amazing save by the Bruins goalie.
Lindgren with a good clear.
SCORE: Lindgren tries to hip check again and badly fails, allowing the forward to skate right past him to create a 2 on 1. A little too much confidence by Lindgren.
SCORE: Brick with a good rush up the ice, throws it to the center of the ice in front of the net, the puck skates through a few feet to find Gilmour who buries it.
Bigras looks like a good AHLer, not so much an NHLer because he doesn't make those small plays nobody notices.
SCORE: Gilmour with a good, smooth rush almost coast to coast, behind the opposing net, to the side of it, pass to Vinni with a perfectly placed bullet of a shot. He needs to shoot more. He'd have more points if he wasn't so unselfish. Gettinger with the other assist. 3-2.
OG with a lazy turnover.
Lias with a similar lazy turnover in the same spot less than a minute later. Something in the gatorade, I guess.
Fontaine with a good rush, but nobody was there to help him on offense.
Gropp, Hajek with good defensive plays.
I don't know, but it seems like Mess could probably hold up in the NHL. He still has a lot to learn, so probably better off being a top player in Hartford than 9 minutes of 4th line minutes in the NHL. If he were a North American, I'd be pretty confident he'll be an NHLer, but if he doesn't crack the top-9, he may prefer KHL/SHL over the NHL's 4th line. That said, he may well be a lot better in a year or two than a fourth liner, we'll see. But honestly, he should be at least a 4th line quality NHL player, whether he chooses to stay in the U.S. or not. Probably not top-6 though.
Gropp having a solid game. He looks petty good with Nieves.
Lias with a turnover on the PP. Not loving his game today so far.
Holland is good offensively at this level, always visible every game.
Lindgren continues to look confident.
Hajek with a couple good defensive plays with his stick. His defensive stick is really good, but he needs to not over-rely on it.
OG tries stickhandling through opponents. It goes how you'd expect it to go.
Day looks better this game, but I still think he belongs in the ECHL this season. He has a ton to learn about the pro game.
Tokarsky with a strong save.
Lias almost steals the puck for a breakaway, but almost doesn't count.
Gettinger might be a player some day. He's younger than Fontaine and much younger than Fogarty, but probably a better player already or at a minimum equivalent. His 4 game call up wasn't meant to be a sign of his readiness, but rather a sign that the Rangers believe he may one day be a player for them and they're willing to invest the time of NHL coaches to show him the ropes at the top level.
Holland with a good rush, pass to Beleskey, but he missed.
