He will sign if they give him a good contract. That’s probably a one way $600-700K contract, similar to what Nieves got. He would have the guarantee of money and still would have to pass through waivers to go back to Hartford.

maybe the key carrot to re-sign Gilmour
(IF the next couple weeks impress Quinn/Gorts and/or reassure Gilmour) is high AHL salary on 2-way,
i dont see him getting a 1-way

I'd give Gilmour a 1-way deal if it kept him in Hartford. That team is going to need proven AHL players and he is cheap insurance as a depth NHL defenseman.

Sad state of affairs. We can't just root for a player to develop. Have to also monitor his concussion situation. League needs to sorry this **** out. It's borderline insane. The only arguments for violence in the game are tradition and attracting stupid people.

The biggest flaw is people who say "Fighting is allowed in hockey". Eh, there's a 5 minute penalty assessed afterwards. That means it is not allowed.

Having said that, I do feel the NHL should just hand out a game misconduct for fighting. Maybe not standard suspensions, but if you fight, the game is over for you. Fighting is not what makes hockey great. If it was, people wouldn't watch anymore after the number of fights dropped immensely.

The next step should be to ban it from the game. And to hand out serious fines and suspensions for dangerous hits.

Oh boy. This is not going over well. I can feel it.

you only feel this way cause you only stalk soft euro players...if you diversified and stalked some north american players with tuffness you wouldn't feel this way :naughty:

I don't have time to travel to North America for games..... Damn, that doesn't sound believable

I actually think they should relax fighting rules--do away with the instigator, initially. If someone throws a dirty hit, let another guy go over and beat the shit out of him. Then come after the guy that threw the dirty hit with fines and suspensions. Message sent--if I throw dirty hits, someone is going to possibly hurt me in immediate retaliation, and then I'm also going to get fined and suspended.

But this is way OT so I won't even get into the rest of it. Don't fix what isn't broken, though.

Jones is interesting. Left the OSU program right when they were getting good. I wonder why. NoDak is no slouch program, but still. Anyway, little guy with some skill. Played Junior A for Penticton with Tyson Jost and Dante Fabbro. I wonder if it's for next year as well.

Agree that Jones is a good signing.

According to the Grand Forks Herald, Jones signed a two year contract with Hartford. Since his season is over he theoretically could play out the season with Hartford although there is no confirmation he has signed a contract for the rest of the year.

I am attaching links to his Elite Prospects page and the Grand Forks Herald article. I also am attaching links to the Last Word on Hockey writeup including Jones in the top 40 NCAA free agents and to a story by Chris Dilks, the NCAA writer for SB Nation in which Dilks ranks Jones as the 8th best NCAA hockey free agent.

I have not seen Jones play but the write-ups of him in these stories indicates he could be a good minor league signing.

Edit on this post.

I just reread the Grand Forks article and realize that the contract starts immediately so we can look for him to be with Hartford this season.

player turns 30 just before (US) Labor Day

"Matthew Register is a 25 year old native of Calgary, Alberta that has been plying his trade as a defenseman in the ECHL and is showing progress each year after turning professional. Solid +/- while putting up on average 45 points over the last two years in the ECHL, he recently spent 6 games with the Chicago Wolves (AHL) and put up 4 points. At 6’2”, 205lbs (Wikipedia has him at 6’4”, 200lbs), the undrafted defenseman has size and the innate ability to put up points that might make him ready to make a jump to the AHL but at minimum could be a solid acquisition for the Orlando Solar Bears next season."
