Gettinger's the youngest forward on the team. 7 goals--11 points in his first 18 AHL games--huge body. Skates well--kills penalties. 38 shots on goal--not afraid to shoot. To me this guy looks he might be a player.

Meskanen, Fogarty and Nieves are all doing really well too. Anyone of these 4 could be a pretty decent call up.

Didn’t realize Gettinger was producing so well in Hartford.

Pretty exciting. I was pleased with how he played in the preseason. Glad to see him taking that next step in the pros.

Between Nieves, Fogarty and Meskanen the Rangers have at least three prospects forwards who earned a called up. Nieces with the most experience among the three is probably the likeliest, Meskanen - the least.

Beleskey has a chance too but it would probably need to have McLeod going to Hartford at the same time (or being put on injured reserve).

3-1 Pack after two. Fontaine (second day in a row) and Lindgren have goals.
First of the year for Lindgren too. I was pretty shocked to see his offensive outburst at the end of last season. He hasn't scored this year, but I think he's looked better defensively. I still don't see a full-time NHLer there, but hopefully he proves me wrong.

In the context of a rookie, he has been good. Not great. But pretty good. Strong, physical, defensively sound, has not yet gotten involved offensively.

They also changed his goal to Cole Schneider and gave him the primary assist.
I can live with that. I don't get to see much AHL footage of him. All you can ask from a rookie out of college over a longer season than used to is to try and be sound and play to strengths. Good to see, I was rooting for the guy the minute we ended up getting him and was excited to see he decided to turn pro. I don't know where he would fit for us if he progresses well depending on what happens with the rest of our prospects but would be nice to someday see him good enough to be up here

Pack crumbled in the 3rd, Mazanec let in two softies there but it wasn't all on him.

I thought Ryan Lindgren had a really poor game yesterday, he had big issues moving the puck all game with quite a few bad giveaways which culminated in him giving the puck away with a weak backhand (might have fanned on it completely) right before the winning goal for Amerks.

On the flipside i Think Gilmour is really underrated defensively, we're mostly in agreement that he's great offensively in the AHL and that he moves the puck super well, but he's underrated defensively. He uses his skating well to keep a super tight gap and he's smart in the board plays to help negate the size issue. He definitely has issues defending the crease but other then that he's actually one of Packs best defenders.

The 4th line of Schneider-Fontaine-O'Donnell was buzzing all game, they dominated in the 2nd period and Fontaine scored a sweeeet goal.

Packs PP coach needs to learn some new things, sticks to the outside all the time, even on the 6on4 which hampered them severely, there's no chance to ever shoot a one-timer.

Hajek play was like all season, up and down, more up then down though i think.

That's all i got off the top of my head :)

Yeah but mobility is going to be a huge issue for him in the NHL. But I also like him, he plays very true to his role and if he can keep taking a few steps in his development and you can put him in an environment that really suits him, who knows.

But like looking around the league, there are 5 forwards 6’6 or larger in the NHL. It’s not easy for these guys to keep up.

I think there will be a new group of bigger guys who have grown up in this new faster paced game. I think that the bigger guys drafted or who developed 5-10 years ago just didn't succeed in the same speed game as what today's NHL is all about. I think that has something to do with the lack of true big power forwards.

Yeah, and another factor is that when everyone keep getting smaller -- the larger guys of course get an even bigger size advantage against the average opponent. Hockey is still a physical sport and a 5'11 180 lbs D will have a pretty big disadvantage against a 6'6 winger in many situations. The more smaller Ds we get in this league, the more opportunities the larger guys -- that makes it -- will get to manhandle the opposition.

But like from last season alone, the game is faster this season. It will take something else for a 6'6 winger forward to really establish himself in the NHL. I am not sure if there is a single top 6 forward that size in the league right now (Rasmussen?).

ManUT- I think Gilmour is a bit underrated. I wouldn't at all be surprised if he ended up a full time NHLer. That speed he got when breaking out of his own end is something else, you won't find many guys faster than him (he de facto won the speed skating contest at the AHL all-star game for example).

The problem he has in his defensive game is that he gets smoked real bad whenever he does get smoked so to speak. And the reason for that is not gap control but bad decisions.

Mainly I think Gilmour faces the LD log-jam curse. Sure he can play RD but its not optimal at least.

I do not think that offense is going to be his game.

Yeah, i Think Gilmour suffers there, his mistakes are noticeable, so even if he makes less mistakes then others they're easy to remember, that's how the memory works… He's much better at defending then he's made out to be though.

From the little I’ve seen of him at the NHL level Gilmore suffers from a, shall we say, still-developing hockey IQ, and then is unable to recover from the mistake using his skill set. Mistakes are ok as a young defender but you better limit the damage once you commit one.

I don't think it's an IQ issue, he is the type of player who thrives when he can use his skating to take away time an space. If he doesn't do that, he won't be productive. In saying that, an aggressive style like that can get burned and look bad at times
