We have very good young promising centers - Ziba, Hayes, Howden, Lias, Chytil ... and solid depth Spooner, Names, Boo.. Hayes and Spooner or Names will be traded in February...
What if we win the draft lotery - do we need another center Jack Hughes as a potential franchise player or will be
better for us to draft scoring wings as a Kaapo Kakko, Vasily Podkolzin or Matthew Boldy?

Teams win cups with elite Centers.

I like our young Cs, but i doubt they will be elite. If they all turn out to be Stepans (60pts, good guy, 2-way game, etc) thats fantastic, but that, as we saw first hand, is not going to win you a cup.

You take Hughes.

Yup this is my biggest concern. We’ve got a bunch of good prospects but none are elite maybe K’Andre and Kravtsov they might have the upside maybe. But We still need THOSE guys the elite two sure fire guys though to win otherwise we’re going to be in the same boat we were in.

My comment about Mittelstadt wasn't a serious criticism of him. It's just meant to poke fun at the many people who were livid we passed on a future superstar for some slug 2/3C who was also a reach. It was a joke then and a joke now. I like Mittelstadt and think he'll be a fine player, but watching both he and Andersson extensively last year I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between the two in terms of overall value if they hit their upside. One guy might score a little more but the other plays the all-around game.

Again, just having some fun.

Fair enough although you know I’m still livid lol.

Yeah which is cool, I get it. There were/are legitimate arguments for Casey over Lias, I just thought it started to get a little over the top. And I'm not referencing anyone in particular!

Just to emphasize the leap forward Lias has taken this season: he's basically replicated his production from last season in 13 fewer games.

Hayes is a goner more likely than not, Zibanejad could be moved to the wing if needed, Andersson and Howden are likely 2C at best and Chytil might serve better on a wing. Also, it’s generally easier to convert a center to a wing. Obviously it’s a worthwhile discussion but elite center is >>> elite winger.

Exactly. We have an elite goalie for a long time - but we need more. Elite center is necessity. We had several times two very good 2C, but no 1C. We need en elite scorer too - it was Jagr for very short time. And of course very good d-men... and the Cup will be ours. I believe..

Agree.. My favorite combination is elite playmaker and elite scorer...

Teams win cups with the best players.

If the best player is a center, take the center. If the best player is a winger, take the winger.

Chicago has had shitty center depth for a while now, it didn’t stop them from winning 3 cups.

I too hope to God that it’s Hughes for the rangers in June but it has nothing to do with him being a center. I’d feel the same way if he were a wing.

Teams win with depth at center. Usually with a Elite center leading the way.

Think off all the previous cup winners and who was the 2C or 2Offensive threat.

CAPS- Backstrom
Pens - Malkin
Kings - Carter
Blackhawks - Kane

It’s about great depth.

Add Hughes to our current Centers and now we’re talking about a contending depth.

Lias is not going to be harmed by marinating at the ahl level, even if it's until February, and especially if he maintains consistency in his production. His mind frame is exactly what you want and is a terrific example to other young players down there. This is player development and a young leader setting a tone for other prospects...

Bolded.

Does anyone believe that those other teams don't win if their centers played wing instead?

Honestly it looks like Howden is solid and Lias will be... Chytil likely should get some AHL time now

How’s the kids on D?

I had been thinking that Lias' game reminded me of Chris Drury before I saw this post. So I am complete agreement.
Lias is going to be low maintenance--a guy focused on winning and improving himself. Gritty. Kind of maybe like a young Chris Drury or a Jonathan Toews.

We don't have to rush him though.

As for Hajek---he's our best D prospect in Hartford. I think he belongs there for now though. He needs at least a half and maybe a full year in the AHL.

What Lias is doing down in Hartford is what Chytil should be doing. Gaining confidence. That’s so much what it’s about. Chytil is not getting that in the show right now. Just no way. He should be down there playing on the PP 20 mins a night and scoring every game. That’s the best thing for him.

I agree. Wait, what?! What did I just say? What is this, opposite day?

Everyone should agree! With what we’ve seen so far from Chytil and how he is being used I don’t understand WTF this organization is doing with him. The first year is burned so that doesn’t matter but he will be so much better served in the A, now and in the long run.

Brandon Crawley's production seems to be pretty good right now to start the year. Has he been much improved in his sophomore AHL season?
