Giroux gets little love, but he has 35 points in his last 25 games....since Feb 8th. Only McDavid has more with 39.

And only 3 games, has he not registered a point in the last 25 games.

Mackinnon and the Avs going cold at the worst time for both the Hart and playoff races :(

If the Avs make the playoffs AND Mackinnon at least starts getting on the board again, I'd still say he gets the Hart. But the Avs playoff chances took a huge hit in the last week.

If the Avs miss the playoffs, probably Malkin or Hall get my vote. McDavid would probably get a nomination (top 3 voting finish) over Mackinnon if the Avs miss the postseason too.

I don't think McDavid has a chance in the Hart race purely because voters have time and again shown their preference for candidates who are on playoff teams. I think he'd have to open up a monumental scoring lead to pull it off, and there's just not enough games left for that to be a likely thing.

He's definitely a name to consider. If we're looking at players since the all-star break there have been a lot of hot players though, so I'm not sure thats enough to push him into the lead.

Since the all-star break (players I think are in the Hart conversation):

McDavid - 28GP-25G-23A-48P
Malkin - 26GP-19G-22A-41P
Kopitar - 28GP-15G-22A-37P
Taylor Hall - 28GP-16G-21A-37P
Mackinnon - 21GP-14G-18A-32P
Kucherov - 25GP-11G-21A-32P
Giroux - 29GP-13G-23A-36P
Ovechkin - 28GP-15G-15G-30P

If the season ended now, I'd say it's Kucherov.

McDavids been great, but the Oilers have wasted the season. Colorado is currently out of a playoff spot. Hall has been good but is tied for 9th in scoring (11 behind Kucherov). Ovechkin has the goals but is 12th in points.

Based on how voters have voted for this trophy in the past (assuming making the votes public this year doesn't change things), if Kucherov stays second in points behind McDavid, I think he wold be favored.

Funny how you completely forgot to put Taylor Hall who has 37 points, more then everyone on that list except for Malkin and Mcdavid.

Considering he has 36 more points than the second point producer on the team and if the Devils make the playoffs, and the Avs don't , I think he should get it, hands down.

You're right that was a slip up. Hall was meant to be on the list. Will fix it in my edit, and will also add Kopitar who I also forgot.

And that's fair. But everyone else has gotten talked about in the media and in here including Barkov and Hall.

I was just showing how good Giroux has been all without a peep from anyone.

I agree, he hasn't got enough love for the season he's had, and I'm glad you brought it up because I've overlooked his season myself.

Excluding goalies, only 3 hart winners have ever been out of the top 5 in scoring. 87% in the top 3.

I think that likely takes Ovechkin and Hall out. Kucherov, Malkin, Mackinnon (playoff dependent), and Giroux would be the likely choices in my opinion.

It might come down to the final games to determine the winner. Kucherov keeping a points lead ahead of the others and Colorado making playoffs would be big factors.

It seems everyone here wants to talk about what everyone's done lately, while Kucherov had the hot start. The trophy is for the whole season, points and wins in October are just as valuable as those in March.

If the Avs miss the playoffs then MacK is done, if they make it it's his. Malkin doesn't belong near the Hart, he has 2 team mates with 80+pts, no one else has that kind of support.

MacK, Kucherov, Ovechkin
*Kucherov, Ovechkin, Hall

Lindsay: MacK or McDavid, Malkin would be deserving too.

Uh oh, avs has a string of bad games at a crucial time and they are out of playoffs. Macs mvp season is slipping away.

Hall is still a candidate IMO. Up on next best scorer, Hischier, by 36 points! Devils look to be making the playoffs and he is at 85 right now with 33 goals. Six games left he could break 90.

Way you gotta figure it is this; take each player you think should win off their respective teams and think how much each team would miss said player.

Malkin-Pens are most likely still a playoff team without him, Crosby and Kessel would be enough to carry them
Kucherov-no question Tampa still makes the playoffs, deepest team in the league
MacKinnon-Avs don’t sniff the playoffs(he has my vote if they make it)
Hall-Devils would be a lottery favorite
McDavid-best player in the world but his team still is going nowhere this season, the Art Ross will be a nice consolation

So I think it should come down to MacKinnon or Hall personally(call me a homer if you must) but I think the voters will probably give it to Kucherov

And you could also throw in Giroux, Kopitar, Marchand...but I think the 5 I listed would all be favorites over them

Hall at 85 is up on Hischier by 36
Devils seem to be making the playoffs

If they do and he breaks 90 my vote goes to him.
