Yea I get that the br is the most popular and overall best weapon, but it just gets stale after awhile knowing that mostly every fight is who hits their br shots faster and better. To me halo has always been more about the sandbox they build, and in ranked that isn't show cased at all. Also like no one using mics even in ranked, and barely anyone even uses the ping system. Maybe I'll go for onyx, but even after doing placement matches, it kind of got stale. It doesn't help how people leave/DC often.

You really need to play with a squad of friends or you're at a disadvantage in the global one. The duo one is hit or miss with people communicating and I use the ping system quite a bit. Every encounter is who hits their shots better but sometimes it's knowing when to bounce out instead of getting finished off. If you find an AR in ranked you can do some damage close quarters before they can hit their shots. Just having a secondary in ranked makes a huge difference.

Is it weird to prefer the Cammando over the br? I feel like I do a lot better with it lol. Are there stats that show how well you do with each gun? If so, I need to take a look at it haha

I downloaded this just to see how it is. Was pleasantly surprised at how much fun I was having despite being absolutely terrible at shooters on PC. I had a decent game as my last game of the night. Will be a good timekiller here and there but I don't see myself investing the time into completing a battle pass even if there's 150 days left to do it.

Yeah, there are some issues going on...

- My BR for half of a BTB match the gun was lagging when I was trying to shoot and kept shooting two instead of three bullets, then would go as a machine gun.

- Some bullets from the AR do not register.

- The pistol reticle goes wonky at times.

- Extra: The brutal chopper is the most useless thing in the entire game, even moreso than the ravanger. It has terrible control, the guns are nerfed, and the boost is effin' useless.

Felt like to me in my very first match that even when I had the shot lined up perfectly, was shooting first, and was pretty close range, I'd still end up hitting opponents like a wet noodle. Unfortunately that was an ARs only game. I never want to use the default AR.

There needs to be a penalty for leaving games. Feels like almost every game I lose a teammate and that’s huge in a 4v4. I know sometimes games crash but it can’t be that often.

I thought they had quit penalties setup. A temp ban if you quit multiple matches. I’m not sure as I haven’t quit a match yet.

So a few weeks in, I can say Streets, Behemoth, Aquaris are the top maps for me. Each game on these has been very fun. I really think they nailed the map design with these launch ones.

I gave it the 'ol college try on PC and didn't like it at all. It weird, most FPS games I prefer to play on K&M but for some reason, Halo just feels a lot better for me on controller. It also didn't help that I was getting like 30-40 fps too because I haven't upgraded my rig it quite some time. It played so much better on the Series X for me. Did you play with a controller or K&M?

K&M. I also got the Witcher 3 on Steam's sale and tried playing on K&M. I just never built up the one handed dexterity to hit reach for that many different keys. Respect to anyone who has but it's a nightmare for me. But it's slightly easier with Halo Infinite I guess. I'll try with a controller tonight if I have time.

The default AR is actually really good. What you're seeing is the server desync at work. Half of your shots hit and the other half disappear into the ether. It's infuriating.

Most noticeable on the AR and projectile weapons like the mangler

Meanwhile if I got the needler I was the God of death lol.

Needler is really f***ing good in this game too. Probably the best its ever been in the series.

Pretty much any close range gunfight makes the Needler an "I win" button. Its not hit as hard by desync because of the homing capabilities.

(And I say this as someone who's always been trash with the Needler)

I like all the maps as well. Behemoth, Launch Site, and Bazaar are my favorites.

Really? I quit twice in a row (teammate didn’t load in both times) and nothing happened to me. Maybe it starts after the third time?
I got dropped from connection and got a 10 minute ban so it happens, but not sure exactly what goes into it.

3rd time is usually the charm from what I've read. What I don't know is if it keeps track or not and for how long. So lets say you get one more disconnect, you get a 15 min ban or whatever it is. 2 weeks from now, say you have connections issues and get disconnected. Does that go on from your 3rd disconnect, upping the amount of time, or does it start all over with the 15 min ban?

I am going to be pissed if they don’t add game modes like FFA and swat into a regular playlist. Keeping game modes that have been around for 20 years locked behind events will kill the game.

Playlist update

Thank God. The 343 team kinda gets a twofer there since people being able to play what they want should in theory speed up progression some more too since you can just jump in to whatever game mode you need won't be at the mercy of RNG now.

That's two of the major issues corrected, or at least in the process of being corrected. Now do the server desync

What is the S.W.A.T game mode?

S.W.A.T is basically Halo's answer to hardcore in COD.

No radar, no shields, precision weapons weapon starts (was the DMR before but I'll probably be the BR here) so it's mostly one shot one kill type stuff.

Not my cup of tea but there's a pretty sizable player population that loves it

Does Total Control get any love? Like is it popular enough to get its own playlist and have it well populated? Really like this type of mode as its the only thing I played in the COD games.

Yeah S.W.A.T is definitely a bit too sweaty for my taste. But hey if that's what people like, then more power to em.

I'm more of a fiesta guy in terms of different playlists. Loved grifball in Halo 3 because for as dumb as it was, it was hilarious having every round start with both teams being terrified to come across midfield so it looked like a bunch of awkward preteens at a middle school dance. And then having elites in the lobby made for a bunch of comical death screams all game long

So apparently the Halo Infinite ranking system is a pretty complex ELO system.

Your progress depends very significantly on how good your teammates and opponents are.

Basically, the game makes an educated guess about how the game should go based on the team composition, specifically each player's performance history weighted for recency. The more wildly you deviate from that projection positively or negatively impacts your rank change.

So for example, if the game believes that team A should wipe the floor with team B, and team A does so, everybody on the team can go perfect and still not get a big rank boost cause the game thinks 'well duh, you should have'. Meanwhile, if team A and B have a close match that team A wins, the people on Team B could actually see their rank go up in a loss, while the people on Team A could see a small rank drop even if they won.

The biggest rank gain you can get is to go up against a team the game thinks should win handily, and beat their brains out. Likewise, the biggest rank loss you can get is if you go up against a team the game thinks you should wipe the floor with, and get your ass handed to you.

Ideally matchmaking would ensure that every match was composed of teams that are close to dead even in skill, but matchmaking has to make concessions for connection speed and party composition that the ranking doesn't.
