JFC guys bluechip prospects don't get traded for rentals. Hall doesn't want to sign an extension, he's not going to negotiate.

The Yotes are paying for 50 games + playoffs and still gave up five really good assets.

Byram and Soderstrom and those guys were dreams. This is really good value for a guy that was going to walk and hasn't won a game for us in a calendar year.

I’m not sure what’s better, if Arizona collapses giving us another shot at the lottery or Arizona playing well enough for Hall to consider resigning.

There's no lottery shot this year. The absolute best pick we could get in 2020 is like in the 5-10 range but that would involved a total collapse. It's more likely it'd be 12-25 this year. 2021 all bets are off. You'd need them to win a lotto twice in a row to get a lottery pick next year though.

In what sense? If they miss the playoffs it defers to 2021, or only if they win the lottery?
AZ would have to miss the playoffs and then on the slim chance they get to move into the top 3 would the pick get pushed to 2021.

So, it's really Bahl, a 2020 1st, and a 2021 3rd.

Is Hall likely to extend with AZ? Given he has had no playoff success and minimal PO experience, I doubt he signs before their season ends. This is his first chance to pick his destination without restriction. Will he see enough from AZ in these final 47 games and playoffs to be convinced that they will contend in the next 4-5 years?

tempering expectations, i assume merkley and schnarr are AHL depth with potential. they're not the main focus and we shouldn't be looking for them to be blue chip prospects

I'd say there is almost 0% chance he resigns there. Gotta imagine Colorado has the inside track there.

Exactly, it's a perfectly reasonable return for rental Hall and if he does re-sign (unlikely) all they have to do is win a single playoff round and we get TWO first round picks + Bahl for him (the other two prospects were throw-ins).

It's a great start, now trade Greene, Vatanen & Simmonds and we'll be well on our way.

Not a terrible return by any means .. not a great one either. Solid job by Shero getting something for a guy that had no future left with us.

There's some upside to the 2020 first since the Coyotes are by no means a sure bet for the playoffs.

Not excited at all about Kevin Bahl or these other guys.

Overall I feel slightly underwhelmed because I thought getting a closer to NHL ready, second tier prospect was possible. Getting the 2020 first with only top 3 protection adds some upside, though, so I guess that helps.

I don't know, whatever. This is fine I guess, but just feels like a sad coda to the end of Hall's time in Jersey.

I thought Bahls issue was his skating.
I am always afraid of this statement:
"He’s an excellent skater and has good mobility for a big man."
Kevin Bahl

Observations

October 2019- Bahl played very well for Canada at the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase and is expected to make the main team for the 2020 tournament coming in a couple months. In the meantime, Bahl was impressive in the Coyotes rookie tournament and has gotten off to a solid start offensively in his last year of juniors, scoring two goals and four points in nine games. Keith Duggan
March 2019- The Coyotes have signed their 2018 second-round pick to a entry-level contract. Bahl wanted to bring more offense to his game and showed that this season, scoring six goals and 34 points in 68 games. That was more than his two previous campaign’s combined. While it was great to see his game growing, Bahl still seems more of a defensive defenseman who won’t contribute much offense at the NHL level. Keith Duggan
August 2018- At 6-6 and 230 lbs, Kevin Bahl is a large man. He’s also expected to grow maybe another inch or so along with putting on some more weight and muscle on his growing body. Ten years ago you could make a strong case Bahl would have easily been a first round pick. Instead with the NHL all about mobile, quick transition defenseman now, he slipped to the Coyotes in the second round of the 2018 draft. That’s not to say Bahl is a big lug on the ice basically there to take up space. He’s an excellent skater and has good mobility for a big man. Bahl worked with former Coyotes skating coach Dawn Braid and admits she had a huge influence on him. Playing for the Ottawa 67’s the past two seasons he’s never really racked up the points though. Bahl finished last year with a line of 1-17-18, and although he has shown improvements offensively, it really isn’t part of his game. He admits it’s a weakness for him and said it’s something he’ll work on this summer and coming season. In the meantime, Bahl is one of the premier shutdown defenders in the OHL and his calm nature was a steadying influence on Ottawa’s blue line. With several smaller, puck moving defenseman in the Coyotes system, Bahl is a perfect compliment to them. Unfortunately, fantasy wise Bahl doesn’t offer much other than in deep leagues that count stats like hits, blocked shots and penalty minutes. Keith Duggan

Anyone see/hear this? Found it on the AZ board. 50% retained? Really?

So the 1st round pick is Lotto protected? I understood it was a hard 1st? Anyone have a clearer picture?
Hard 1st in the sense that it doesn't drop to a 2nd or nothing if a condition is not met. It was reported briefly that there was only a conditional 1st. That's the reason when it was reported again they said "hard" first to clarify there is not condition on it. Lotto protected is a different topic from being conditional in that meaning.
