Watching Getzlaf toss him with one arm at center ice was straight up sad. It honestly seems unsafe to even have Petey out there, anytime he gets hit along the boards you can see his skeletal frame bend and crack.

He's built like Trevor from Trailer park boys.

"Translucent skin stretched over an alien frame" - the green bastard

Juolevi never put the work in, Virtanen never put the work in, now Petey? I thought we drafted character players, Jimbo?

Be better Petey, we need you. Please

That's pretty dumb. Longer sticks make it harder to handle the puck.

Reportedly it's only slightly longer. To be fair, players make slight modifications to their sticks all the time and given that Petey handled the puck at an elite level he probably wasn't thinking that would be a problem? Regardless, if it's not working out for him, why not ditch the changes and go back to what worked? Shot power is useless if he's not getting his shots off and isn't hitting the net.

im running out of excuses for him... but maybe a less severe case of long haul covid? him not being aggressive on the puck makes me think his cardio is affected.

I'm surprised he chose a longer stick for shot power. Usually longer sticks are used mainly for being better at disrupting plays defensively. IIRC Sutter uses a long stick for this.

I'm surprised people think it is so rare for players to peak early and never recapture their fast start. Barry Pederson, Jimmy Carson, Garry Valk (first 12 games had goals I believe), Patrik Sundstrom....

Hiding under WTG's bed...
As well Barry Pederson had SERIOUS shoulder surgery after those monster seasons. Even though he was damaged goods when he became a Canuck, he still had a respectable season or two but he never fully recovered to his former form after having that chunk of shoulder muscle removed as a result of that surgery. Likely the reason why the Bruins wanted to unload a 100 point center in the first place.

He seemed to be trying but I think a combination of his wrist and a lack of conditioning is impacting his play a lot. He seems to be bobbling the puck frequently and his shot is off(wrist). He's weak on his skates and doesn't seem as fast.

If it's his wrist, after all that time off, it's likely to be a chronic problem. Lack of conditioning would speak poorly to his professionalism.

I'm willing to accept that he may have long covid or vax side effects, just because the list of remaining possibilities is vanishingly small.

Sundstrom did not regress in vancouver.
He hit at the time a franchise record 91 points in his second season. The next season his totals dropped to 68, then to 66... He then had 71 points and his first year in New Jersey he hit 51 points. Cue bass solo.

You failed to mention his 71 points was in 72 games, best season in 3 years. How is that for a regression? A regression is something you dont recover from.

And what has New Jersey to do with it? I clearly said vancouver.

Sundstrom should not be included in a list as a disappointing player.

Sportlogiq report:
"he’s a stunning non-factor"
"Two seasons ago, he had 24 goals from the slot in 68 games. In 2021-22, he’s got 0 in 16"
"He used to average a little over 3 slot scoring chances a game, he's averaging less than 1 this year"

Did his wrist injury prevent him from doing any squats or cardio? It baffles me that he cannot even seem to stand up this year. His speed/hustle that was so evident in year 1 is gone. His default play now is to make the line, do a little s-hook and look for help, give it away and then pick himself up off the ground. Wash, rinse, repeat. He's clearly frustrated, and I hope for all us Canuck fans he's able to sort it out and get back on form.

No.

I don't see or feel any frustration from Petey.

Pederson was headed to the HHOF before his shoulder tumour and his career to that point was on par with Denis Savard, Dale Hawerchuk, etc.

Boston realized he wasn’t going to be the same player after and smartly sold high.

Has Pettersson regressed? The sad thing is, I'm not sure he actually has. It's just that the rest of the league has figured him out. They're taking away his time and space, and unfortunately Petey doesn't have the frame to win any puck battles and fight for space.

D-men are successfully imposing their will on him, particularly down low. And of course on the half-wall on the pp, he looks like a fish out of water. Goalies are already cheating for that one-timer....so he's either hitting the goalie in the chest or firing it wide.

Pettersson now has the pay-grade of a franchise center. But he may never reach that level. That's just the reality of situation.

God forbids that this happens.

If this happens, you know that Pastor will suddenly say that it's not Jimbo's fault and that Linden is to blame because he overruled him.

Daigle played for a bit he just never lived up to the hype that's all.
