Post-Game Talk: Habs

This team has a habit of playing down to their opponent, starts at the top with the coach but we’ve been known that

Laf does not look good. I was hoping that he would run with that spot on Mika’s line but he just looks so….blegh

It’s almost like the team has killed his confidence, and he just doesn't seem to mind lol

Like you don’t become the first overall pick being ass, that player is there somewhere but idk

This team is dreadful to watch in the offensive zone. 2 players standing around the crease while a single forward plays pattycake with two defenseman who outside of Miller and Fox can only throw shots towards the net.
Yeah this is it. Our guys whip the puck around outside but never really get dangerous chances. On the rare occasion the puck gets to the net, our netfront guy never does anything with it.

They have "talent" in the sense that they have effective players but the skill level on the team is well below what they've accomplished in terms of wins and losses. They don't play a skilled game.
The only thing that ultimately matters is if you score more than the other guys and they do that on most nights.

The rangers have been one of the hotter teams as of late. They aren’t gonna win them all. They do have the flu going around and have injuries. Obviously you would think this would be a game they should still be able to pull out but that’s still a NHL team that they are playing. Montreal isn’t gonna lose all of their games

They actually generate quite a bit of high danger chances. I think earlier in the year I remember Vally saying they were near the top in that respect. I'm not sure where they stand now.

What have you done for me lately.

Kakko was pretty good. Has been all season. Lafreniere is a defensive liability in all three zones and does nothing offensively. Guy is checked out. That's why Gallant scratched him to wake him up. Didn't work.
It did work last year near the end of regular season if you remember . He had 4 goals and 2 assists in 7 games back and then played well in the playoffs.

It's largely a mirage. The Rangers and Florida (under Maurice) play similar games and both have the same tendency to make every goalie they face, even average backups, look fantastic because they play so predictable and bland, doing nothing to wrong foot the goalie or surprise them. Montreal created more actual, ie not statistical, high danger chances where they were shooting at a goalie in motion or had a free shot in the slot from a pass. Without Igor making some fantastic saves this would have been a very ugly loss also by the numbers.

It's not a mirage and It's one game. Like I said before they have injuries, had an epic emotional win the other night, and have a bug going through the team. This was a classic trap game. Why is it such a catastrophe with some on this board when they lose a game. I just don't get it. It happens to every team. Devils had a terrible December, Pitt has lost a bunch of games lately, so have the islanders, Canes just lost 4 in a row, and Caps are coming back to earth also. It's not the end of the world FFS.

They are 22nd in the NHL in expected goals per 60 at 5v5 per naturalstattrick. I don't know what other models have them at. Not good enough.
Imo the Ranger are easily one of the most talented and deepest teams in the NHL. The team is underperforming badly. I want to see this team perform closer to it's full potential rather than see it clunk along barely above it's floor.

The Rangers really aren't that deep. They have talent and skilled players but lack depth. They are down 2 forwards and have Blais and another scrub playing today. Both useless. They need both a middle 6 and bottom 6 forward at the deadline. They also have Harpur playing 3LD and at the moment he is adequate but they need to upgrade that position as well.

this means nothing to me.

Caufield was a bust last season until MSL took over. Magically he remembered how to play.
Dach was a a bust in Chicago until he was traded to MTL. Magically he is starting to live up to his potential
Suzuki had a pedestrian start last season... until MSL took over.

I'm not saying I want to be a terrible team that has no structure... but the young forwards are receiving limited instruction/coaching. We're playing dated hockey on top of it. It's not only the kids because our offense 5v5 has been below average to terrible on all fronts with all comers.
I can't disagree with this but the problem is from the top down. Get rid of the coach and all the people above and around him are the same.

This team with the young players we have and the top end vets should be the best in the league. The only thing holding it back is the development of the young players into offensive minded forwards. I've said it all along, this team goes nowhere without the kids being a huge part of it. The problem is they jerked around and wasted years of entry level contracts for the kids and at some point players we need will have to move. People can slag on Lafreniere all they want but this organization has had failure after failure with regards to how the forwards were brought along.

It's not one game. Stop with that garbage. We've lost many games like this including against Anaheim and CBJ. We struggle against quick agile counter attacking teams because we are shit at moving the puck and are poorly organized. That's just an observable fact over many games, not an emotional reaction or hyperbole.

Get ready to lose tomorrow to CBJ.

Travel, second night off back to back, team ride with illness and Halak most likely in net. Vanilla team that will most likely come out tomorrow with zero emotion and give a similar effort to tonight. Best case scenario is they get lucky a squeak out a win.

More importantly, forward group is completely inept with Kreider out of the lineup.

Sadly feels like a 0-5 PP and 4-1 or 5-2 loss kind of night
They had nothing this last game, imo the illness is a valid issue, until its gone i expect losses or lucky wins

That's not the reason they lost. From the moment the puck was dropped you could tell they had nothing. We play down to lesser opponents a lot and the combination of things I mentioned in a previous post. That's just a fact. Lost to a terrible Chicago team at home and then kicked their ass a few weeks later. We also beat that same counter attacking quick Montreal team 4-1 a few weeks ago. We are on a 13-3-2 run having beaten a ton of playoff teams in that span including Vegas, Colorado, NJ, Canes, Toronto, to name a few. Are they not agile counter attacking teams?

And yet they're a failure where it counts the most -- the playoffs.
4 cups in 97 years should be enough said, but 1 in the last 83 is terrible. Something has to give
season records 4 and 93 miserable. But I will never give up the hope of a win

good teams just dont blow this game. once again, like anaheim, chi, sj, cbj....these games are 2 points you cant puke away. stomach issue or whatever else, can't blow these 2 points.

besides, panarin tonight is first actual shot from a fwd that beat a goalie since 1/7. that happening once in 3 games is horrific. kinda stat that makes you wonder if they have no pride or absolutely no ability to do it consistently

Good teams lose games to bad teams all the time. Caps just lost 2 straight to Flyers. The Rangers have had their share this year no doubt but I think this particular one is understandable more than the others, at least to me.
