Interesting takes by Andrew Zadarnowski:

I don't agree with his "burned" comment -- 2 of his goalie coaches had fairly long runs. I don't know what the "burn" rate is for goalie coaches on other clubs but I doubt that most goalies on other clubs are only coached by one guy throughout their tenure.

As to his second point about external hires, that may also be due to the economic crisis and lack of revenue that NHL teams are experiencing. Yes, the Habs are cash rich compared to most other clubs but they've also implemented several cost-saving measures since the start of the pandemic. It's also been Bergevin's "absolute best interest" to make the playoffs over several years now.

And, it's not a bad thing to bring in new people with new perspectives. Waite had a good run. Time for a new voice.

There is no certainty that it is really about Bergevin having his hands tied. Could also be an economic move since Burke is already on the payroll, as was the case with Ducharme and Burrows. They also didn't replace Churla.

Ownership did allow Bergevin to spend to the cap max in the off season -- which shouldn't have happened if his hands were really tied.

Clearly it could be financial, yes. I'd still think that's dumb if it were so.

Molson dished out a ton of $$ to Price. Clearly the organization believes Price is still key to their success, and want to do whatever it takes to help him. Are they really going to cheap out on the ~1M$ or so it would cost to get the goalie coach they want? It's possible - but not sure.

I also just don't think Bergevin should have his hands tied this year - especially if we are trying to contend (and we are - whether you're impressed by the results so far or not). And honestly - tying Bergevin's hands is the worst thing they can do. Bergevin is actually good at making moves. His issue is usually his complacency in not making moves when we should make some, but usually he does pretty well with trades.

I'm not saying this to defend Bergevin per se. My opinion is - if you trust him, great, let him be GM. If you don't - fire him. There shouldn't be a middle ground where he keeps his job but isn't allowed to do it.

Price can only be traded if he wants to and where he wants to. Apart from Vancouver and Seattle, I don't see potential destination Price would like and Vancouver is not in the market for a goalie or have the space for Price.
Maybe they fired Waite to piss him off real bad so he accept to lift his clause for a team he normally wouldn’t.

Burke hire could very well be a precursor to a non biased evaluation of Price and goaltending prospects with the expansion draft approaching. One would think there’s a kinship developed between Waite & Price, which is not the case with Burke.
Burke is not a hire! He's been with us for years... It's a promotion.

Wouldn't you wait until the new goalie coach goes through his quarantine first?
This was not premeditated. Burke would have arrived sooner. Something did happen.
Why would you wait? A goalie coach isn't an absolute must, you can survive just fine two weeks without one.
Maybe they were waiting for Burke to sign his contract and he did so yesterday night, maybe they told Waite he'd be relieved of his duties after yesterday's game, maybe they wanted to wait for late night so it doesn't cause a massive splurge of emails/messages as some journalists might have already been a asleep...
Could be a bunch of reasons, I have no clue why people need to jump to conclusions that omg..something must happened!

Waite probably had a discussion with Bergy where he blamed the team in front for Price poor play. Bergevin ego got mad and fired his ass

The fact that all the recent hires have been internal is interesting, but I feel like Ducharme as head coach and Burke as DoG are good hires. People need to suggest better alternatives if they think these were bad hires. Ducharme is branded as an innovative up and coming coach, while Burke has had some success as a goalie coach in the past.

Has Burke ever coached?

Maybe he was hired as DoG and his first decisions was to fire Waite and now he has to do the interim (so the Rocket doesn't lose another coach) because MB can't hire anyone.
He turned around Bryzgalov, Mike Smith and Dubnyk (all three in the 30-age bracket) while Yotes goalie coach.
