To me to hire an English coash can be done without much backlash of the media. Well, of course there will be some. Hire a well known coach/ ex star-player... like Gallant/Brind'amour and hire an assistant like Ducharme (doubt he'll stay if he is not hired as the full time head coach) who is going to the press conference with the head coach. French reporter will have their guy and they will not need to translate. Plus it will be harder to whine about an ex-start player or a well known coach.

And I don't think that the presence of an assistant coach at the press conference would be seen as bad.

Same strategy could be used for the GM position. Ex-Star player or or well known GM who speaks primarily English and an assistant who is French.

I'm sure there is a lot of qualities assistant GM and coaches... I also think there is a lot of quality coaches and GM but the pool is probably significantly smaller.

It was reported recently that after CJ was fired by the Bruins, Vegas made him an offer, but he opted to take the job in Montreal. In that same report, they said that Montreal had met with Gallant to replace Therrien. So had CJ taken Vegas' offer, Habs would have most likely hired Gallant. And that tells me that the organization is open to hiring an Anglo coach. It might be a small list of them they'd consider, but they're not completely shut from the idea.

I mean, even if it does create backlash..who cares? This is a private company, they can hire a Tibetan coach if they want so long as his immigration papers are in check.
They wouldn't lose any fan over it either because they have monopoly on the product in Quebec.

Maybe it'll cause a bit of riff raff to come out but in the end it'll be like a week or two tops, and then people will focus on the games.
Just like it was with Randy Cunneyworth. A bit of an uproar...then those people f***ed off.

Well obviously the Habs care and they are the one taking the decisions.

Edit: my point is since it seems important for them to not have too many critics by the medias, there are ways to do it... and I'm sure it's not cool for the coaches to feel the reporters openly hostile to them for a few weeks and more.

Not a Brendan Kelly fan, but this is an interesting question. The fact they fired him right after the game.

They may say it was time for a change when they speak to the media today, but it does sound like something happened for it to be done at 10:30PM, especially after Ducharme's first win.

I don't know how long a career a Tibetan coach would have, but he'd definitely have a higher peak.

Its hard to believe Price had no idea of what was coming. Waite was Price's guy, Bergevin had to talk to him before firing him.

Waite was part of the Habs staff, they don't usually consult players before firing staff, the dude wasn't Price's personal gardener.

Waite was in Chicago with Bergevin back in the day, not sure where this whole Price's guy come from.

The fact that the replacement hires have come from within the franchise doesn't necessarily mean Bergevin's hands have been tied. It may be Covid related. All owners are losing money this year, it is probably cheaper to hire within and offer a small raise then to hire a new person from outside the organization.

Burke was a great and underrated goalie and a smart dude. I think this will be a good move. I don't think it's a big deal. It's normal for professionals to want to change teachers at different stages of their career. It happens in many fields.

Got a feeling the upcoming pressers will probably be them pissing on our legs and telling us it's raining...

I think it’s fine and a positive move. The timing is really weird though.

I’m going to assume that they’ve been trying to get Burke to commit for a while now and finally created a position he was fine with.
