Kent presented him as a 5-stars human being to be precise.the media and Kent mentioned several times they liked getting the 'local guy' back home, I am not rewriting lol

I guess you are speaking of Dach, Barron and Newhook when you say "players acquired". To be fair, it is not KH fault if Dach got injured and lost a full year when in fact he was trending upwards. No friend, I commented my thoughts clearly: the regression from the players HuGo specifically acquired is (1) not good in general and (2) gives me cause to be sceptical of their judgement and ability.
Oh i'm sure they liked getting a local player. But what i mean is they knew what they were getting. A 30ish points 2nd pairing dman who was not good defensively which with his contract was worth pretty much nothing. But to trade Petry without retention we had to accept a contract and well a local player was a bonus for sure. Mathesom doing 60 points was certainly never predicted by anyone in the league. It was never supposed to happen.the media and Kent mentioned several times they liked getting the 'local guy' back home, I am not rewriting lol
We can't say that so far KH acquisitions via trades worked cause they certainly have not for now. He gave Romanov, a 31st overall (obtained for Chiarot) and a 37th overall and got Dach and Newhook in return. Both players will be 24 soon and are very close to be "as seen on TV". What we can say though is they were not bad gambles. The picks and players he gave were not elite either. He gambled and probably lost but it made sense and that's what is important.I guess you are speaking of Dach, Barron and Newhook when you say "players acquired". Newhook is playing exactly as advertised. I think some have a romantic notion of what he can bring to this team. In an ideal world, he should play 3rd line/energy style where he can use his speed to forecheck. He's in the wrong chair because of the lack of depth on this team.
I never like Barron and that trade so, that is indeed a clear "fail" for KH in my book, but no GM wins all it's trade.
Yep, you're right. My mistake. We took Hage in the first.I thought Barron came with a 2nd rounder, and we used LA's pick???
Barron did have some use!
They brought him in as a 'local boy' and they were counting on him to be good.

Bro he plays 30 minutes a night and gets 60 points in a season. He has brain cramps but let’s lay off the negativity please.
Dach was injured, Newhook regressed, big f***ing whoop.
We are in a rebuild, and our key pieces aren’t playing. How you can judge at the moment is incomprehensible, but you did spend most of Slafkovsky’s first two seasons calling him a bust.
I agree with this, trade Matheson while his value is high. We don't need him we have Hutson and with him gone we can put Guhle back on the left side.I'm being positive by saying trade him now while he still have value. He's playing his way into the worst +- in the NHL, nobody wants that.
I remember how everyone used to say Kovacevic was soft. Monster now? This board is bipolarThey kept Savard because he is a big guy in the room and they need his veteran leadership. That's enough calculus to keep him over Kovacevic. Not to mention Savard is still and always has been the better defenseman between the two.
It is hindsight because Allen and Kovacevic weren’t seen as crucial pieces at the time. Allen was too old and not part of the long-term plans; the trade provided a decent return for what Allen was, and ended the three-goalie logjam. Kovacevic was ok, but Barron’s perceived ceiling fit the rebuild better. These moves were logical then but are being second-guessed now. You may have always disagreed, but that doesn’t change what most people were saying at the time. Whining about the moves now based on outcomes we couldn’t predict is classic hindsight. It's not Hindsight when we've been bitching about the lack of size and goalie depth, and we trade the 2 pieces we needed for the rebuild. We have enough draft picks in the 2-7 rounds.
I cheered the Harris/Laine trade, always hated the Newhook Barron deal. We've been complaining about size for 30 years, how is that Hindsight?
cringe, ewwww
Nope, you are wrong. Your Core has to be big, could care less about the smurf perimeter players getting smashed all over the ice. Your D has to be big and mobile, with 2 decent puck movers. Cole, Nick, Demidov - small, don't play a big game. That's ok if Slaf, Dach, Laine turn out to be top line players, they can insulate the smaller ones. You need size down the middle, we have only Dach.. and its not determined if he can play C.It is hindsight because Allen and Kovacevic weren’t seen as crucial pieces at the time. Complaining about size for 30 years doesn’t make every decision about it wrong, and your fetish with it oversimplifies the team’s current issues. The Habs rank 7th in average weight at 201 lbs - that's far from a small team. Meanwhile, Michkov, the player you wanted, is 5’10” and 172 lbs, which is below both the team’s average weight and players like Newhook (5’10”, 199 lbs) and Barron (6’2”, 202 lbs). If size is your main concern, Michkov wouldn’t have addressed it. Having said this, I am not minimizing the role of size, just recognizing it's not all about it; it’s about building a balanced team with skill, speed, and physicality (not necessarily related to size).
I'm being positive by saying trade him now while he still have value. He's playing his way into the worst +- in the NHL, nobody wants that. You can be just as negative and have called out just as many players. So it's only ok if you do it?

Your most used players have to be able to withstand the punishment. Hopefully the bigger kids in Laval can help us out as well. Oh and Newhook plays like a smurf, so do Armia and Dvorak.
Small soft teams are not successful, you won't change my mind. This franchise has had this garbage mentality since 94, and it's proven to be incorrect and useless.
Gally says hi.The difference is that guys like Dvorak have basically never been good in a habs jersey, while one guy plays some of the most minutes in the nhl. He deserves some slack to be honest.
Apparently he regressed though
Gally says hi.
These boards have been wetting themselves over this guy for two years. Yes, he has been good for the habs and his body broken because of how he played in the past.
Totally fair to say Dach and Newhook are playing like crap. Habs would have been better keeping Romanov. Math isn’t playing well but they are using him incorrectly. If they improve the D core via trade or FA he is a good piece when he plays less minutes.
It’s fair to call out any guy when they are playing like shit.
Sorry are we talking about Gallagher Newhook and Dach or Matheson? These posts are getting tiresome when the goalposts shift from player to player it’s hard to follow.Gally says hi.

Point is guys are criticized on these boards and it doesn’t matter what they have done in the past. Any guy who is playing like crap is fair game.Sorry are we talking about Gallagher Newhook and Dach or Matheson? Gallagher is playing well. Dach is coming back from injury (I think I’ve said this 100 times now, not that he’s playing well).
Newhook is the only Kent Hughes addition that truly fell off a cliff this year with no real reason. Barron was never anywhere near being a good player.

Dach is coming off an injury but that doesn’t excuse his poor effort without the puck. Too many times he stops skating on the back check and is massively lazy in his own end.
If you exclude draft there are only four additions, Dach, Newhook, Barron, and Math. All are struggling, some a lot more than others. IMO, none are stellar acquisitions.
I’m not overly impressed with the rebuild or Hugo’s acquisitions. They are wasting the raw talent on this team to bad coaching and some bad trades, I think that is a fair statement. Newhook, Barron and Dach have not worked out at all. The panic trades of Kovacevic and Allen look bad, today.. maybe it works out... then there's the Reinbacher draft.. god knows what we have and what we passed on.
Maybe because you were expecting a rebuild where all the players drafted magically play right away in the NHL?I’m not overly impressed with the rebuild or Hugo’s acquisitions.
I don’t care what they gave up.….and what did we give up for them? The regulars here seem to think we gave up generational players

I for one was referring to his size at 6'5" 225 lbs. He only had 74 hits in 62 games so he's not overly physical, but he's hard to push around. He made good decisions with the puck and proved himself to be a reliable stay at home defenseman. He led our 28th ranked team with a +11.I remember how everyone used to say Kovacevic was soft. Monster now? This board is bipolar
