Maybe. But that Cup win probably doesn’t happen if the Islanders don’t upset that year’s prohibitive Cup favourites, the Pittsburgh Penguins. And we probably don’t win the Cup in 1986, if Calgary doesn’t upset the Oilers.

But the Hockey Gods evened things out when the Canadiens lost to an inferior Flames team in the 1989 finals. Who would have thought Vernon would outplay Roy? Improbable. Impossible.
David Volek should be an honorary member of Habs Hall of Fame.

Ylonen played 7 f***int minutes and he scored two goals.

When I tell you that MSL isnt a coach, its what im talking about. He hasnt coached a single game behind the bench, all he does is stand there.
Obviously he did coach since not all lines and players played the same minutes.

Here's the composition of the 1993 team :

Muller 26 years old 357 goals and 959 points in career
Damphousse 24 years old 434 goals and 1205 points in career
Bellows 28 years old 485 goals and 1022 points in career
LeClair 23 years old 406 goals and 819 points in career (in only 967 games played)
Denis Savard 31 years old 473 goals in career 1338 points
Carbonneau 32 years old 260 goals and 663 points in career (as well as one of the best defensive center of all time)

Schneider 23 years old 223 goals and 743 points in career
Desjardins 23 years old 126 goals and 575 points in career

Obviously one of the best goalie of all time

To put things into perspective Koivu 832 career points, Patch has 326 career goals and Markov 572 career points. The 93 team had like 8 players of this caliber with Roy. There was no Mario Lemieux but that top 3 of Bellows, Muller and Damphousse was deadly with Damphousse finishing the playoffs with 23 points in 20 games and the top 2 on defense while young was borderline hall of fame material.

There was many players in that team that were "not good enough for the HoF but as close as you'll ever be". Many players in that team had intangibles too like Carbo being one of the best defensive center ever while being actually quite potent offensively and LeClair who had not reached his potential yet but was already so hard to play against because of his size and how sturdy he was on skate. Many of those guys were kind of dirty at time too.

It was a team that finished with over 100 points back when that milestone meant something, and they did it with Roy not having a good year by his standards.

I think this often gets overshadowed, because while they did have one of the best records in the league, it was only good for 3rd place in the division.

It should be no surprise that when Roy flips his switch, a good team morphs into a serious contender.

The other thing which made it feel surprising at the time was that the defense was unheralded. It's not that it was an average defense, but it was a very young one and those guys were still making a name for themselves.

In retrospect, those young guys all went on to have very long nhl careers outside of Haller.

You can almost see it coming where Ylonen asks for a trade especially if he gets scratched every few games while watching players produce less than him.
Marty's use of certain players right now, has me sure fire pi$$ed off.
Gally and Anderson right now, just suck. Remember, a turd is a turd......shiny turds, are just that too....

If, this is truly another step in the process, let the kids who are the future, play.
The vets deserve to sit, or less TOI

Not sure what Ylonen has done to get this treatment in the lineup. He's got speed, decent hands, a good shot, and he's got better production/60 than Slafkovsky and some of the vets, despite the minimal minutes and low calibre linemates he's been given and basically no PP time.

I mean, if they don't want him, they might as well at least try him in the top six for him to get some numbers in order to set him up for a trade so we can get something for him before he requests a trade. It's driving me crazy and one of my main criticisms of MSL so far this year.
He has been inconsistent in my opinion but that might not be his fault. He is a good skater, has a wicked shot and can score goals when the opportunity presents itself. For some reason though, he is stapled to our bottom 6 and never gets pp time or a chance to play on the top 2 lines. I don't know why we aren't giving him a shot on the top two lines? I mean, I can see him being successful with Monahan, I mean, what exactly do we owe Tanner Pearson? A 31-year-old throw-in from the DeSmith deal. I understand that they are hoping to trade him at the TDL but we have a 24 year old kid that we need to get a better look at, same goes for Anderson, staple his ass to the 4th line and be fair to the rest of the roster

Caufield haven't scored at 5v5 since the 2nd game of the season. All his gwg were in OT.

so that means you cut him from important 6vs5, power-play and OT. That will show him and we will win more!

Just because he is in a small slump doesn’t mean you take away the things that will give him confidence. When Suzuki is in his inconsistent periods i don’t see anyone saying things like this.

Sure that was a big hit but that's not good if that hit was enough to potentially seriously hurt Arber.

Teams will know to start playing X harder like that if that hit ends up making him miss some time

It's really easy to hurt something by putting your arm out to catch a fall, if that's indeed what it was. See Shogun Rua vs Mark Coleman.

I remember when people were getting all giddy with Anderson in his first season with us, calling him Powerhorse and throwing flowers at the clown's feet.

I remember telling people that a horse wears blinders. Oh I got shut down back then.

Not sure if I was giddy, but I was a fan and defender. Sure, he’s straight line, low IQ and plays with blinders on but he has so many physical tools; skates, big, has a sick shot.

But holy F***! He just fell off a cliff to start the season.

He has 2 shots on 8:09 minutes of empty net play time...

And I doubt this is a small slump, since Caufield have never been a streaky/lucky goal scorer.

And you didn't pay attention when Suzuki was in his inconsistent periods

Could have been way worse.

Praise da Lort!! (said in Madea's voice as I typed it) He needs to realize that even though he's the sheriff there are plenty of guys in the NHL that can take him down. Barbashev took a bite out of the man the myth the legend last night and I think it was a bit of humble pie for Arber. He was stunned by it, probably feeling some concussion symptoms more than anything else, and was flexing his shoulder on the bench to not get the attention of the concussion spotters. I posted during the GDT that he got his bell wrung and I stand by it, that was a monster hit on a big man. Big men fall hard.

Yeah even Sean Hill had a long and successful career. He was among the top 3 dmen of Carolina when they won the cup. Definitely a solid top 4 thru his career but he was only 22 in 93 and like Barron atm was still trying to learn the ropes. That was a young defense group.

Desjardins 23
Schneider 23
Odelein 24
Hill 22
Brisebois 21
Haller 21
even JJD was not that old at 26 and he was the vet of the group.

That's why they acquired an over the hill Ramage at the deadline to bring some experience but he barely played he playoffs lol

It’s really strange. I’m not the biggest Ylonen fan but even before the season started I wanted him in the lineup over Slaf. He absolutely deserves a real shot. Not giving that kind of talent a chance is very strange.

I like how we’ve been playing but I don’t like the lines at all. MSL HAS to switch up the lines for next game
